  1. true. same can be said of walnut and any number of woods.
  2. What tool did you use to remove material from the grips? I've got one of these going on my back up gun and will need to recess the grip panels I'm sure. Used a dremel and went slow. Drew out the pattern with a pencil, did most removal with a dremel, and cleaned up any areas that weren't fitting with a hand file. This was on a set of Baer cocobolo grips, but I assume the same would be true with G10.
  3. Thank you for the response. That clears it up.
  4. I have a tread on my experiences with Evike, they shipped a holster to me instead of the pistol I ordered. It took about 3 days and 20 emails for them to finally ship me the correct stuff. I realize I am a N=1 sample size, but I'll probably go in a different direction when it is time to replace this current pistol.
  5. I've had mine less than a week, but I've been running the hell out of it. I went with a GBB all metal frame 1911, a propane adapter, and a 3 pack of coleman fuel. I use it with my single stack gear. I bought some rim fire sized plate racks and printed off some 1/3 ipsc targets taped to corrugated boxes and set up in my garage. The boxes catch most of the bb's as they don't have enough force to exit the back, I just sweep the rest of them up when I'm done. I think it is good training. The biggest surprise to me was how much louder the air gun is than my suppressed 22...
  6. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think the Tactical Sport is gorgeous.
  7. With patience, you can find a pre-loved 686 White Onyx Sporting in your price range. I paid about $1400 for mine with 32 inch barrels. Great shotgun and the feel of a beretta is preferable to me vs the comparable Browning offerings.
  8. Once upon a time I shot a bottle at about 100 yards, strong hand, with a friends Model 66 snubbie. I have been trying to buy that gun from him for the last 25 years...

    Grip Preference

That would make my ocd flare up something fierce.

    Grip Preference

My middle finger almost touches the heel of my heel with the CZC thin grips on an Sp-01. I can barely get my support hand on the grip because my strong hand is all over the place. I need to find something thicker for my gigantic man hands.
  11. I usually carry a les Baer utc. I'm awful at single stack, mostly due to reloads and a lack of a magwell. I really need to buy another one to set up for competition purposes, but as of now I mainly shoot production when I get the opportunity to compete. I have two CZ's in bound, so everything my change shortly.
  12. Gun finally arrived today. It's pretty cool. Need to remove the tip so it fits in my holster.
  13. Is the only difference between the PII and the PII Supertac the baked on finish vs the gorgeous Baer blue? I have a UTC that I run in single stack on occasion and have been considering picking up a PII for the purpose of competing with and keeping the UTC as a carry gun.
  14. Thank you. as a side note, if you hear of any of the magnolia crew wanting to part with their shadow, send them my way.
  15. Thanks for the links, I'll certainly try them if anything else goes wrong on this order or when the gun wears out. From the sounds of the article and the sponsorship, evike views the competition shooter market as their growth avenue. They will need to tighten up their CS if they want to succeed. So many good companies dealing with actual guns, I doubt many serious shooters are going to deal with their CS shenanigans.
  16. Is the CZC Shadow Target USPSA production legal? Beautiful gun by the way.
  17. It took two days of back and forth, but allegedly the gun I paid for is finally in the mail. Better late than never, I guess. Was rather disappointing to spend my lunch break Tuesday setting up my mini range only to have a holster show up instead of a gun. Gonna lose it if the package arriving next Tuesday isn't right!
  18. I've never been an airsoft guy, and never bought an airsoft product before recently. However, I do have an infant son and that has really limited my ability to get to the range and practice or compete over the last... well year or so, really. So I read an article in the Dec/Jan 2015 3 Gun Nation magazine about using airsoft for training and figured I'd give it a shot. I figure my garage is sufficient enough to buy some mini plate racks and set up some targets if for nothing else than to try and scratch my shooting itch on a more frequent basis. The author of the article is apparently sponsored by Evike, so I figured they would be a good place to start. I watched a ton of videos, read reviews, and tried to figure out what would give me the most bang for the buck in a training gun, so I picked a full metal GBB 1911 pistol, bought a propane adapter, and a bag of bb's. Yesterday, I receive the package... it included a propane adapter, a bag of bb's, and a $16 HOLSTER. No pistol to be found, and I'm reasonably sure the pistol package that I ordered wouldn't have fit in the box they shipped it in in the first place. I immediately notified evike of the error via phone, emailed pics to the CS representative, and was told that I would hear back before the end of the day. I heard nothing back, so close to the close of business on the west coast, I sent a follow up email asking for an update. The response was essentially that there was no update to be given. So, I kind of feel like I'm getting the run around. Perhaps I am spoiled after all these years of dealing with great CS at brownells, amazon, and the like... Anybody else have any issues with Evike.com? If so, how long did it take to get them resolved?
  19. First season in the books, it looks like season two will be a full on transition from Jimmy to Saul. Can't wait!
  20. Practice in dry-fire first, to make sure you know how much tape you need, and to get comfortable with shooting with both eyes open. It took me a month or more of nightly dry-fire pracitce to build the subconcious trust in shooting with both eyes open. Scott Will do. I've got an infant at the house, so my range time is very limited these days. I've got an airsoft setup coming tomorrow with hopes that it at least gives me a chance to work on some things in the garage besides solely dry fire.
  21. Not that I profess to be a great shooter, but I do have a pretty solid grip strength base. CoC are great, but ease into it or you will wind up hurt. I dead lift a lot, double overhand, no wraps. I do a lot of pullups, rowing, and weighted carries, and some more esoteric grip training stuff. Grip training is the basis of any good strength training routine, in my opinion. If you can't hold the weight, you can't pick it up. I do think grip strength and grip training translates well to shooting sports and combat sports: bjj, wrestling, whatever.
  22. I'd love to be able to shoot with both eyes open. I guess I'll give the tape a try next time I make it to the range. I've seen a few guys doing that over the years and had never given it much thought.
  23. I could spend hours watching Miculek videos. He is a fascinating guy. Hopefully there is more shooting and less time in the row boats going forward... but I'll continue to watch.
  24. I think the Wilson Combat magwell that attaches via the bushing screws would work well with slim grips. I've been running one on my Les Baer for a number of years now and it has been a great product. It's never moved on me or loosened up. I was skeptical at first, but didn't want to swap out the Baer MSH, so I figured I'd give it a try. My regular thickness grips stick out beyond the magwell at the center of the grips, a slim profile grip would probably be ideal. The only fitting required is that you have to recess the rear of the grips a bit to get a good fit over the hooks the Wilson magwell uses to mount.
