Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I purchased the Dawson Ice magwell and Dawson's extended, tool-less base pads and I couldn't be happier. Shot my first club match with the setup and am loving it.
  2. Thank you for the info. I think I'll probably go with the Operator as well (aside from cost, the Canyon Creek magwell is out of stock currently).
  3. I'm a new shooter and have been lurking around this forum for awhile now. I have a couple questions if you don't mind. First -- and this one may be slightly off topic, so I apologize -- when I started I was closing my left eye and keeping my focus always on my frost sight as I moved through stages. Not long ago I was reading from some folks who advocated always shooting with both eyes open except on the long shots. As I'm new and still developing habits, I'd just like to do what's best and I'm sure I can adjust to either. Second, I'm pretty confident I should have my focus on the front sight. Does your focus ever leave that front sight except when you need to move more than a step or two? For instance, say you're transitioning to a target that's maybe 120 degrees from left to right -- does your focus shift to the targets and then as your sight moves to where you're looking, you bring your focus back to the front sight? Thanks for all the help.
  4. I have an XDm9 and I shoot USPSA Limited (I also plan to get into 3-gun; having a 9mm doesn't bother me). I'm getting a magwell and I'm planning to get the PistolGear Operator or UnLimited. Is there a noticeable advantage to using the UnLimited vs Operator and are there any drawbacks to having the UnLimited that I may want to consider in advance getting into 3-gun? I don't shoot IDPA so that isn't a concern. I'm leaning toward the Operator currently but I'd love to hear what others think. (I currently have the PRP ultimate match trigger and I'm adding PRP grip tape--just to list off what I've already done and where I'm going. I will be adding mag extensions as well to accommodate the magwell.) Thanks for the advice.
  5. Thanks for the replies. Kneelingatlas, I have the SA Match that I shoot in Limited, so it's no problem there. I like the look of what you have, when do you expect to have it done and would you mind sharing here? Does that paddle require shaving off any of the grip or does it fit over the grip just fine?
  6. So I love my (Stock I?) Elite Match so far. I have new sights from Henning on the way and I'm sure soon I'll also replace the trigger with his as well. However, I like the way the gun shoots, feels in my hand, the works--with one exception. I have trouble pressing the mag release without shifting my grip, which I really don't want to have to do. My hands are pretty average size but I just have trouble consistently releasing mags without shifting my grip slightly. I swapped the mag release button to the opposite side and I'm now trying to release with my index finger, which I actually like better except that the button is a tad too far back now and I'm always pressing on the sharp edge of it this way. Sure after I do it hundreds of times my finger won't feel the sharp edge but I'm still reaching to get to it (although my grip does have to shift less). Is there a mag release button available that would either extend farther back and up for my thumb or one that extends farther forward for my index finger? If not, what other alternatives have you all come up with?
