  1. On most factory A2 guns I believe its 1/2 MOA.
  2. He absolutely did. The 1968 GCA specifically forbade interstate commerce in arms between individuals. If this actually occurred, This Drew Griffin character, the rifles seller, and I'd say CNN are all resposible- I say CNN because they facillitated the transaction. I reeeeaally hope someone from BATFE picked up on that program.
  3. That SUCKS!!!! I used to think that it was OK to leave the truck unlocked, stuff laying around, etc. at matches. At the NC State match year before last, though, I was a vendor. When we were packing up after most everyone had left, I left my Leatherman laying on a bench near the clubhouse. I left, realized it was missing, then came back about 10 min. later. "Oh, no, none of us have seen it. A what again? No one turned it in. Are you sure you didn't take it with you? Of course we'll let you know if we, ah, see it. Thanks for your sponsorship, by the way." I know it's just a leatherman, but it had been given as a gift from my godfather on my sixteenth birthday. Sometimes the folks we think we can trust the most around our guns and gear are the ones we should trust least. It sucks, but its true. I leave my stuff that's not secured only with the guys I know, am friendly with and shoot with regularly, and never, ever, ever leave my vehicle unlocked anymore.
  4. Nee. I think it was actually "nigh!," with the gh silent.
  5. But it's got teeth...like....FANGS!!!!!!
  6. Just exactly how badly outclassed might I be using an iron sighted Mossberg 590 in three-gun? I know the gun does very well with slugs out to 100yds, and it's patterns are respectable. Will it at least work for a starter shotgun?
  7. "We fart in your general direction" and "your father was a hampster and your mother smelled of elderberry." Can i getta book now? Oooooo.... What song closed out "Life of Brian"?
  8. I'm in the Western NC area. Has anyone here had Phil Flack of PF Custom do any work? I was by his shop earlier today and saw one of his L-10 guns and an open gun- i was very impressed. He did some very slick machine work on a Springfield slide that was very, very clean.
  9. Is there, anywhere out there, a list put out by the American Pistolsmiths Guild of "accreditied" pistolsmiths? I'm hesitant to name the gunsmith, but I just had a job mutilated pretty good, and I'll need someone to fix it. I also can't exactly afford an arm and a leg, either. Does anyone know if such a list exists, and if so where can I find it?
  10. 5/8" @ 200 yds using iron sights You must have eyes of an eagle. I need the name of your eye doctor I think it actually suprised me more than anyone. That was the first time I'd shot over 50 yds. since I got contacts. The doc said I was clsoe to 20/10 RE with a tinge of astigmatism that was to slight to get out with contacts, but he could get me closer with glasses- my next option. I don't think it's so much a matter of eyes as it is stability and repeatability. I'll admit I was sitting, not standing, at 200. And now that my sling's finally stretched as far as it's going to stretch, the platform's getting pretty solid. I can't wait to see what happens when I can finally afford a real shooting coat!
  11. I'll give those a try. I've been buying the Rainier 200 gr PF's we've been subbing for the LSWCs from Midway, and I know they carry Laser Cast. Does anyone else have better prices on 'em?
  12. Okee Dokee... I should have this thing thrown together by this weekend and have it shot Saturday. I'll let you know how many digits I've got left then.

    Groundhog Day

If he would've been that pilt a bit more often I might've voted for 'im.
  14. Thanks for the feedback, Chris. You caught me a shad to late, though- I'd already agreed to an Armalite. What can I say? It matched my lower! So I've got to put a DPMS M4 barrel on this Armalite upper. After checking over my list (again) and getting another list made up of all the parts I forgot the first time, I think I'm ready to put this upper together. Except for this tiny, teeny, miniscule, trivial thing..... Will it blow up on me if I don't take it to somebody with a set of gauges and have it headspaced?
  15. I can use this nostalgia trip..... Where can I get H&G 68s? I came across some last year and they're freakin' awesome with an old Bullseye load an old-school USPSA guy I shot with in grad school gave me. He used to use Valiant 200 gr. .451s until they stopped making them, and he said they were as close to the old H&Gs as he could find. The ones I got were hard, though- not much fouling for lead. If anyone makes molds I'd be happy but I'd rather have the bullets. Sorry for the thread drift- you may proceed.
  16. As a caveat, I'm pretty new to three gun. BUT- I do have an A2 set up for service rifle. Not being able to reload right now I had to look up a factory load for it. After trying several different offerings from Federal and Winchester, I tried out Hornady's 55 gr. Moly V-max and stopped. I zeroed at 25 and consistently got one ragged hole. Saturday I finally got out to a decent 200 yd range and managed to group them in about 1/2" to 5/8" (over irons, with witnesses!). They're a little pricey at about $12 a box, but worth every dime. As another caveat, I was shooting a floated 1/9, so your results may differ. This AR is my first .223 as I grew up on '06s, so I can't tell you if felt recoil is greater than the heavier bullets or no. I can tell you that you realize how much the AR spoils the sh** out of you when you pick up your Springfield to zero IT at 200 with that hot new game load. You certainly don't get $@#(*!*# 1/2" groups!
  17. Has anyone had any experience with these? How is the finish? Are they forged or cast?
  18. No, no, no..... If a real man is going to use a wheel gun, it better be a 1917 with a full strength 12-15# DA pull, paired up with a 1903 for a .30'06 bolt gun and an Ithaca Model 37. You must only use W-W White Box .45 ACP & .30'06. And no kydex- all canvas & leather. Oh, and if you reeeeally want to do it right, use half-moon clips. Add extra points for refraining from profanity during reloads. Now that's a "He-Man" setup.
  19. I visited a local club Saturday with a friend of mine to use their high power range. I new they had a pistol range so I bagged up a few irons just in case. During a lull in the shooting I spoke with our host about doing som e pistol shooting and he gave me a look that seemed to indicate that I'd just turned orange. Turns out that the bullseye shooters there are, well, "different." He told me that they eject folk from the range that shoot a two-handed hold of any kind because it's "dangerous." When I actually went up to check out their range no one so much as spoke to me. I'll shoot rifle at clubs like that and zero my hunting handguns on the rifle range, but that over 55 set can have their Bullseye. It sort of irritates me when we have to fight tooth and nail for the survival of all the shooting sports and then get knifed by "fellow" NRA members.
  20. Vote #70 from the Mountains of Western North Carolina!
  21. I need leads on quality, new made leather and full-moon clip carriers for a 1917 Colt. I'd also like a lanyard for it if I can find one. It's a family gun that's been living in a sock for a long time and needs a new home- on top of that, it's an awfully good shooter for a gun that's 80 years old. Help me find this old warhorse a new saddle!
  22. Eeeeugh.... I had something similiar happen in my upper left shoulder last spring. At first I thought it was doing shotgun side matches so much, but it quit when I switched from mechine bench presses to freeweights... Anyway, you may have damaged the cartilage in your elbow. Have it checked out quick or it'll get worse if you try and work it out.
  23. That's probably true. I've worn a Hellweg dress belt every day for the past year and a half, and I've been very pleased with it. I've seen some of their holsters and mag carriers but I've never shot from them. I'm pretty sure the KST Tactical would be legal now, but I don't know about the C version that used to be. I was considering a Gunsite or El Paso "Double Agent" rig as a carry and ocassional IDPA rig a while back. Both are awfully nice pieces of cowhide though they're both rather expensive. Only thing is, even if I bought the now-legal holster I couldn't use the mag carrier I carry for IDPA since it angles back about thirty degrees past ninety- it's a Bianchi #16 Mag/light carrier. So much for the "shoot what you carry" concept.
  24. There's a good reason that it looks like the Gunsite model- because that's what it is. After IDPA specifically banned the Gunsite model, Galco just renamed it. Really this wasn't some conniving action on Galco's part because the holster ascribed to all the old rules. This was one of those questionable issues that made lots of folk around my circles wonder why the rules are/were made the way they are. If it's good enough for Col. Cooper's school to use, it's good enough for IDPA.
