  2. Only Eight weeks before the Beehive State Revolver match starts, the following Sponsors have signed on.
  3. Mark Chapman's suggestion is one of the lowest cost options available, you can find New old stock barrels at Numrich gun parts, then you need access to a mill to increase the clearance on the ejector shroud. and possible a lathe to fit the barrel plus throating reamers and a gauge. if you get too carried away you might come up with something like this
  4. I have shot S@W double action revolvers for years, I found if I shot my 617 then the colt, I was waiting for the colt to fire. Two of our Steel Challenge Shooters have other Colt revolvers and love their new Colt 10 shots.
  5. Go slow, I use a lighted magnifier to keep the file on the correct angle.
  6. if you have a newer fun that does not have a pinned extractor make sure you put a few empty cases in the cylinder to keep it properly aligned.

  10. We will run the match under WRC Rules which are similar to the Original ICORE rule book. Scoring and gun classifications are similar with the addition of Heavy Metal which is Six shot 40 cal. or larger with a minimum 165 power factor and B zone hits score as an A.
  11. Tanks for being my editor, my trigger finger has net been getting enough used lately.

  13. I purchased a Colt King cobra Serial number 133, and shot it a few times for Steel Challenge, the first time I experienced numerour lite strikes, I disassembled the gun and polished all of the contact points including the pivot and spring contact surface. It will now fire CCI and Remington gold bullets very reliably. My main issue was on the longer shots I was waiting for the gun to fire and found my times were noticeably faster with my 617. That and the lack of an optic mount resulted in the little colt going to a new home.
  14. Minnesote !, I suggest you modify your old California Comp speed loader holders by finding a round piece of nylon or plastic that wil lfit in the ID of your holder and protrude thru the clip. your local hardware store should have them in stock. Your 230 grain will work well, I have found Hodgdon Clays to be clean burning and accurate.

    price check

if the 627 is a performance center gun and is indeed like new you are in the ballpark, if it is a 627 pro, the price is too high. You should also ask what brand the moonclips are, TK,s are great, anything else only so-so
  16. Go for it, I am in the same boat, I have decided to leave the moon clip guns at home for the next few months and participate in the classis Division, I will use both a 686 6" gun as well as a 629 6" gun, half the fun is finding the best bullets, load data, speed loaders and holders. Who knew finding 44 caliber round nose bullets and 44 Russina brass was so challenging. Now that things are pretty well lined out the fun begins.
  17. Thanks for the info, I have been interested in the S.L. for years, I have ordered a few for testing. Received a confirmation on my order, it was from support@slvarient.com. and states the items will be shipped from their warehouse in Japan.
  18. My revo friends and I shot three model 617s at our local steel challenge, extraction was flawless after teaming each chamber. I used an online driver with plenty of cutting fluid and cleaned the cutter at least three times for each cylinder. The chamber area looked like they had been polished when I was finished. The key is to go slow and not force the reamer, if it starts to tighten up, stop, clean and re-apply the cutting oil.
  19. I have now fired @ 100 rounds thru the new colt and thought you might want to see how well the barrel is crowned, this is one of the reasons it groups so well.
  20. I devoted a few hours to the Colt 10 shot in the last week, with some minor stoning and polishing of the bearing and contact surfaces the DA pul is now 8 1/4 pounds, the stacking is almost gone and it fires Remington golden bullets, CCI coated and Federal Milk Carton ammo without a misfire. Can't wait intill the next Steel challenge match as I will shoot the 617 in optic and the Colt in Iron sight.
  21. My friends and I have three newer 617s, each of them have extraction issues regardless of the ammo brand. After researching the issue on this forum I ordered a finish reamer from Brownells, using my gun for a test i reamed each chamber then shot it testing for accuracy and extraction, the accuracy seemed to improve slightly and the extraction issues are gone. After the initial testing I changed out my firing pin which measured .503 and installed a factory .493. The two changes allowed me to reduce my double action pull from 8 3/4 pounds to 7 1/3 pounds with 100% ignition using either Remingtom Golden Bullets or CCI Coated. I have now reamed each of the three guns with positive results .
  22. I have measured the cylinder on my Colt and forwarded the info to Dave. My first impressions are somewhat favorable, first the area of concern, my first shots were taken using CCI Blazer ammo , the stuff that looks like it comes in a milk carton, firing double action . on the first ten rounds three failed to fire, on the second two failed to fire. subsequent rounds experienced similar failures, when I used single action all ammo tested was 100%. The second ammo I tested was the Remington Golden Bullet, I had one round that failed to fire in the first 10 rounds, when I tried to fire it single action it still failed to fire. I followed up with 50 rounds double action without a failure. Accuracy while resting my elbows on a shooting bench indicates the Colt is slightly more accurate than either of the Smith 617s I fired with the same ammunition. On the plus side the grip angle on the Colt is similar to the Smith and acquiring a sight picture felt natural. The gun balanced well and feels lighter than the 617. initially the trigger felt like it stacked more than the smith however after 50 rounds of DA only it began to feel much better. Does anyone know of a manufacturer the offers an optic sight mount for the "NewColt"? Dave do you have speedloader that might work in this gun?
