  1. I was looking for the old school style "thumb slide guard" that used to use the top grip screw to secure and didnt require replacing plunger tube nor slotting frame. The Swenson thumb safety shield i would be interested if they made a NON-AMBI version. I had an OLD wilson thumb slide shield on a colt officer and regret selling it with the pistol now that i cannot find a basic one. Im going to have to machine my own, im happy to know im not the only one looking for one. Seems like there would be a market, maybe i will mill a few and sell a couple.
  2. SHAYS? Is it integral to a special left side grip that *thumb rest [generic]*? Can you post a link where it can be purchased please?

  4. Hello, I decided to customize my COLT ENHANCED model 1911. It was initially going to be just some aesthetics but after putting it up against my GLOCK-34 with zev tech internals and my kimber target (my two most precise pistols), the COLT went from being good to phenominal. Anyone else have these results from a BRILEY spherical/and/or BARREL crowning? I had two other competitors also try it before and after and the results are amazing. If this is the case why dont more people crown and/or why dont manufacturers do this on higher end SEMI-production 1911s since the cost of machining for large companies would be cost effective? Would 44degree crown/flush cut,Briley spherical,F.L.G.R. And after market trigger not be allowed in USPSA/IPDA or STEEL CHALLENGE single stack or limit-10? Sorry for the non-professional pics but you get the idea
  5. Hello, Ive always run production but i decided to try single stack with my COLT enhanced 1911. The limitations are very vague. 1)Can you use an aftermarket barrel bushing or does it have to be from same manufacturer? Ex: COLT with a BRILEY SPHERICAL 2) can you use a full length guide rod if it wasnt equipped from factory (since its not an EXTERNAL MOD)? 3) can you have a 44-45* crowned barrel or barrel flush cut to bushing? If these mods are not allowed in SINGLE STACK or LIMIT-10 what would it be allowed in? Thank you
  6. I competed there the same day as well, what squad were you on?
  7. PRODUCTION 83.80% 4.4643 Hit factor 50.2793 Stage points 11.20 sec. http://www.uspsa.org/uspsa-display-match-results-detail.php?indx=10102&division=Production&stage=2&guntype=Pistol this was my 1st uspsa match ever so i shot very slow to be accurate i still dont understand the scoring. . I ran out of ammo/mags and couldnt finish last stage, i didnt have anyone tell me 3mags wasnt enough. I was very embarrased since i felt i was doing okay for my 1st time. Can anyone tell me what my 83.80% means and how bad i did. I know you have to be around 90-100% to be top tier but what would i be classified as roughly "D" or "C"? Thank you in advance You can PM or post reply The R.O. Told me my hands needed to be near my ears when i thought the wrists just needed to be visible above shoulders. So to appease him i put my hands on my head Here is video of me 1st time ever in USPSA shooting the classifier so be easy on me i know im slow;(
  8. Hello, After winning my first production div in steel i wanted to try and run a Colt enhanced i just customized in another division and found ive gotten so used to my Glock-34 sights that while my 1911 is a tackdriver,im not able to have as quick aquisitiom with the 1911 vs my G34. Reading one of my old Patrick sweeney gunsmithing books i noticed a WAKI sight that has a T-shape and similiar white u shaped glock rear sight. Ive googled WAKI 1911 sights and cannot find them for sale. Any help would be appreciated i really want to run single stack as well as Pro div but would like to have a similiar sight picture between my G34 and 1911. Thank you in advance for any help, go easy on my pics.. Here are a couple pics of my 1st customized Colt 1911,BRILEY Spherical,44degree crown/flush machined, nitre blued pins/E.B. Fasteners, giraffe stocks,throated,trigger,disco/sear work etc etc.. It has been extremely precise/accurate out to 25yards so far i just want to get the sight picture better than the stock Colt one. If i csnt get the WAKI what target sight can i use to replace the stock rear without milling and that will go to the end of the slide increasing the sight radius a bit? Bomar? I like my KIMBER POLY TARGET stock rear it was like my old MILLET/STI adj,no glare just wish it had the white outline. Thank you again-
  9. Does anyone sell these BAYOU GREEN cartridges? Or are they strictly reload bullets? I heard someplace actually sold the coated lead cartridges cheap per 1000. Anyone know the website or can send me a link in a PM where i can buy bayou 9mm
  10. Hello, I won a production division with my E.D.C. GLOCK-19. It was only my second time competing in steel challenge but i shoot other associations. Heres my problem,i bought a brand new GLOCK-34 and assumed the longer sight radius would help with precision and its the opposite. I not only shoot more accurate from a draw with my G-19 but more precise Groups as well. How can this be? Before you say i need to practice more with the G34, i actually shoot my COLT enhanced 1911 .45 also better than the glock-34 (zev spring/etc 3lb pull) I slowed it all down and im shooting to the left and sometimes down. I tried the pad of finger, power crease and tip and im still more accurate with my glock-19 on follow up shots and double taps. The glock-34 feels like the slide mass makes perceived recoil greater than my glock-19 which seems to snap (return back) to my sight picture in the same spot. I can double tap and the front sight will fall right back to the same P.O.A., the glock34 returns to the left. I know its me (indian not arrow) but what am i changing/doing wrong?? Its almost the same pistol with a "better sight radius",i should be more precise with the 34 not the 19.. Thank you in advance
  11. Thank you for clarification, my october match was my second only steel challenge ever, production "division", at ancient city shooting range in ST AUG,FL, and i guess i was lucky because i won the "production division"Im still learning so go easy on the nomenclature im asking questions and being as humble as possible. Thank you for the correction sir. Im sure im a "D" class newbie,my time was 137.49 using a glock-19 with alot of mistakes,a walmart blackhawk plastic non-serpa holster and 4hrs of sleep Im sure i will do a bit better with some coaching.
  12. Im going to be at the GSSF, but if your going to be there i will bring my Kimber just to understand how the spacers work for me. I just realized all the PHOTOBUCKET pics ive posted are not showing up,it says i dont have enough postings to post pics, guess being a forum NEWBIE i have to go through some hazing?I had someone email me andi couldnt understand why the pictures didnt answer their questions. When will i be able to post a photobucket link? Thank you. P.s. i dont like RAILs on any 1911s if im in a situation where i need a flashlight i rather not be searching for family in the dark with the muzzle of a firearm whether in condition "0" or "3" I wish Glocks put more surface area on dust covers like Tanfoglio or EAA STOCK II/limited ,instead of rails. My 1911s are rail-less
  13. Hello, I recently won my second only STEEL CHALLENGE "production class" at ANCIENT CITY SHOOTING RANGE and i heard they were hosting a HUGE GSSF event. They said they are GIVING AWAY FREE 25+ GLOCK PISTOLS and approx $8000 in gear total! This seems too good to be true for the $40 fee (plus GSSF membership). Ive never been to oneof these matches and the production class steel challenge iwoni competed with my E.D.C. GLOCK-19. I own a G-34 but since there seems to be classes for each model, what class would i want to start it being a novice. I understand there is no movement,no draw stroke and no reloads,so it sounds like its an accuracy match more than anything. What class would a G-19/G-34 with stock sights, but ext mag release , ext slide catch and a trigger job place me into a different class? Im trying to find information on their website but there is alot of information to assimilate. 1)Can someone breakdown what a newbie to a GSSF match with a stock G19/34 with only trigger work, and i actually have the extended mag/slide catch removed from the G34 and swapped with the G-19. Would that be an issue? 2)Can i use my GLOCK-34(17round) mags in my glock-19? 3) how many cartridges and mags do i need to compete comfortably? Thank you in advance
  14. My grandfather who was a police officer in BPT,CT traded an indian motorcycle for this COLT 1911 from a brig general,we had the paperwork before he passed. It was supposedly an army armorer presentation/parade pistol, since they never came plated or embellished. Ive been told its a 1916 union switch and ive also been told its worth nothing because its been plated. The gun has been in a safe for 80yrs approx and it my father remembers it in its current condition/plating in the 1940s. Does anyone know what this COLT could be? Im new so i guess i cant even post a link for pictures i have. Im looking to trade it for something i can enjoy and compete with since i dont have anyone to hand it down to as an heirloom. It says property of US ARMY and dates on slide. I called COLTs record dpt and he verified from pics it looks like a 1916 army armorer parade/presentation pistol but not much is known since the info was on microfiche. Anyone have experience with these US-serial number stamped COLT frames? It is not stolen it is registered in Connecticut but i have no way of finding out who made these for the brig generals since they had the option to buy them when they left the service or pay a large sum back then to buy it. COLT said he heard of 5-made in canada and thats all they knew that looked like mine. Any info would be appreciated
  15. Hello, Im a newbie who recently switched from USCA two-gun to STEEL CHALLENGE. After my 1st steel challenge match i was hooked. On 3hrs of sleep and a long ride to ST.augustine FL,i won my second only steel challenge match in production class in october at A.C.S.R. In ST. Aug, using my E.D.C. Glock-19. I love my Colt enhanced 1911 And my kimber poly target double stack, but cannot draw either as fast as my glock. Seems like i have tohave my thumb pointed down to dig past my grip i order to get a good grips. Yes,i have tried three other holsters. My kydex glock holster is further away from my belt allowing me to draw much easier. What 1911 holsters are not so snug against the waist? I was thinking of having a leatherman make a small buldge on the backside of the holster allowing it to sit away from my belt. Im thin so its not my anatomy, but the holsters seem to close to my waist area. I havent run my COLT ENHANCED 1911 yet in single stack and want to make sure i have a good holster to practice with since the J.B.P. leather, custom and a desanti just are not cutting it. Also ive had a KIMBER TARGET poly widebody i just found magazines for and would like to run in steel challenge as well what USPSA class would it be in? Limited/SSP? Thank you for any help.
