  1. I have the same issue. I finally fitted a thin 1/16" spacer under the stock 1911 grips (on each side) which gives me a 1/8" wider grip.  I've done this many times, and made the spacers out of many materials - metal, Delrin, plastic.  Takes me less than a half hour to fabricate.  Works fine for me, YMMV.

  2. Any feedback on these primers in 38SC or 9mm Major? I haven't tried them yet but am using up my stash.  I have tried Wolf srp, CCI 400 and 450, Win sr, Rem 6 1/2, and Federal sr, with no problems. All the small pistol primers I've tried also work for me. Worked means the primer goes off every time.

What has not worked are Rem 7 1/2 and CCI 41. I'm using an 18lb hammer spring in a 2011.

Any input from those who have used the Fiocchi Small Rifle Primers in these calibers? Thanks in advance.

  3. Look at the bottom side of your priming punch.  There's a sheet metal "punch support bracket"  that the punch rides on when seating the primers.  That bracket can wear and/or move.  I fixed mine by putting a small shim under that bracket to restrict the punch's downward movement.  VMMV.

Ok so the issue is lets say i shoot about 2-300 rounds, every so often i will have this issue. I will pull the trigger and it wont fire. When this happens, without releasing the trigger, If i put ALOT of pressure on it, it may or may not go off. However sometimes if i release it, the hammer will drop into half cock. Only thing i attempted to do was back the set screw out all the way to prevent it from hitting the mag release and possibly causing something to hit the trigger. I cannot recreate this through dry fire. Everything else in the gun functions just fine. I dont get the common hammer follow issue of the hammer falling as the slide goes forward. Before i start messing around, id like to see what everyone says. Im assuming its something with the sear/sear spring tension?

I had an identical issue on a used Limcat that had been thoroughly abused by both good and bad gunsmiths.  Long story short, the sear itself had been shortened by  a too aggressive stoning.  Replaced the sear and hammer, problem went away.

Seems a bit much compared to how I’ve seen the best CHRONO guy in action several times. I don’t recall ever seeing a shooter hover over CHRONO but I guess it could happen. A simple”step back for me” should take care of it.

And it did.  A designated spot for the shooter takes care of this in advance.

  6. In addition to the above, make sure you have a designated area (I've used a 3x3 shooting box) for the shooter to stay in while you are testing his setup.

Another thing I found helpful: get a small, cheap powder funnel.  Put it over whatever container you're going to use to hold the powder from the pulled cartridge.  Use your inertia puller to pull the bullet, then dump the contents out into the funnel. Shake the funnel, powder goes into the container, bullet stays in the funnel.  No digging around for the bullet in a container of powder.

  7. I just installed a Dillon Case Feeder on my 650.  I was surprised at how much noise was generated when there are cases in the hopper.  I may be more sensitive to the noise because of my hearing aids. Has anyone found a way to suppress the noise at all?  Maybe wrapping the hopper in some kind of insulation? Thanks for any help.

  8. 1) Determine where the screw hits the bottom of the dovetail and put a shallow divot there.  I'd also modify the screw to fit in that divot.

    2) The dovetail may enlarge over time (at least two of mine have).  I put a small shim with a hole for the aforementioned divot under the dovetail on mine.

    Then blue locktite.

    YMMV

  9. I went to a 4 day pistol course in 2002.  FS spent more time trying to sell us memberships than teaching. Content was aimed more at self defense than competition.  We were told to bring 1000 rounds, I came home with about 400. No food available for lunch, and only pit toilets were available.  The course was free, but I spent over $1000 for travel, factory ammo, and lodging. I would not recommend them based on my experience. YMMV

    Maybe they've changed since then.

  10. In my main 2011 I'm running 7 pound recoil spring and 19 pound mainspring.  Went to 19 pounds when I was having some light strike issues.  Solved the issues but never went back to the 17 pound mainspring.

My old backup uses 7 pound recoil spring and 17 pound mainspring.

Can't tell any difference between the two when shooting.

  11. I want to again thank everyone who contributed their thoughts and experience to this post.

I fixed the problem by switching to 38 SuperComp brass.   I had to replace the extractor because the old one was an Aftec, and reduce the powder charge (Starline SC cases with the same load was 5 power factor higher) but after almost 700 rounds, no isues.

Sold the good brass I had to someone here with a WTB ad, the rest goes to the recycler today.  1000 more SC brass is on the way from Starline.

All the responses I received were positive and courteous, what a great bunch here on BE!

I do have an extended pin.  The issue is the primer shaving off into the hole and blocking the pin from being able to make full contact.

I understand your problem. My extended firing pins are long enough that when the hammer is down, the primer cannot flow back into the hole because the firing pin is right at the end of the hole. Can't remember the brand of firing pin, though.
