  1. That's what I was after, thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Huh, great pistol. Guess you we're thinking along the same lines as myself (if you compare the photos I added to the end of the 'show me your SVI 40' thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I have. You were close to the target. It's either lead or powder I believe. A nick in the plating is my bet. Sprays lead as it spirals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I tweaked my G35 to basically the same spec as yours. Was a great shooter, stayed with it for a while but found that the STI Edge I had built up had, well, the edge in performance. Now that my 5.4" sight tracker is on the way I expect that performance gap will become larger still. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Brandon very kindly sent me photos of the finished pistol. 5.4" IPSC pistol.
  6. Guess I'll email SVI Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Just wondering if I can use the thin SVI competition follower and spring in my IPSC standard STI Edge mags (Dawson +1 bases). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Just looking for ideas of manufacturers who make a bull barrel for my STI Edge who also run a tighter major (groove) diameter bore. I know SVI run a 0.397" major diameter and 0.401" throat which is perfect (except I cannot get one to NZ without huge money and wait time). Who else does a similar barrel? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Really? No difference otherwise? Who sells these? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Apparently the Tanfoglio design allows the pistol to fire up to 1/4" out of battery. It's just the design. 1911 design does not allow this which is obviously preferable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I think the case head separation was likely the pistol firing out of battery somehow and I am still investigating the bulged cases. It may be that the pressures from the polygonal rifling are higher than in the STI with the same ammo. Shall report back.
  12. Can one buy magazines for the limited custom 40 without the rear spacer? Where would I find such a thing. I am less than enamored rear spacers, presumably this is to cater to those who shoot short OAL factory ammo but what about the rest of us?
  13. The chamber in my new limited custom xtreme 40S&W is very loose - the case support is pretty lax also, similar to Glock or worse. Is this intentional or a manufacturing error I am wondering? Result? Bulged brass and one full case head separation during a test trial today (my standard match ammo, 175 PF 40S&W with OAL 30.50mm (nice and long to lower pressures)). This has *never* happened in any other pistol in 20 years of shooting. My STI eats my reloads day in a day out with no brass bulge. Eventually the case mouth looks poorly or the head and rim are too beat up and its time for the case to go. Can I get an after market barrel with proper case support?
  14. Ok, I got it in. Just super tight on the outer thread diameter of the SVI elevation screw. I didn't want to cross thread so didn't force it initially but that was what was required after all. Thanks for the assist. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Oh right, thanks for that. No definitely doesn't want to go right in. Perhaps my SVI screw threads are a tad damaged. Shall try again and see.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I tend to email as I live in NZ. Should hear back before long. Will update here then. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Yeah, there is no thread in the SVI sight for the screw. It is simply pass through. I intend to re-tap if possible however I need to know the correct thread. I have emailed SVI as no one seems to know. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. The elevation screw is intended to thread into the slide however - that's how the bomar elevation screw works ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I purchased a bomar cut SVI rear sight (fiber optic with the parabolic reflector). Very nice sight to replace the stock sight on my STI Edge. Problem is the elevation screw does not appear to be the standard 6-48 thread that my slide is tapped for. The SVI elevation screw looks is very slightly larger in diameter (~0.2mm) and the pitch looks much the same. Any ideas what thread the SVI screw is? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Hmm ok thanks. I'm shooting an STI Edge currently. My 5.4" butler cut SVI tri-topped sight tracker is still a year+ away. The full round profile slide on the STI must be as heavy if not heavier than the cut away slide on the 5.4" sight tracker. In my mind slide weight determines much of the recovery time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. So which gun is it? The 5.4" sounds like it is at an disadvantage for rapid fire which is a lot of the shooting we do. I was under the impression the 5.4" sits relatively flat and tracks well for rapid fire....? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Thanks for the replies. Yes I've only just got my order in so there should be a little time to decide. I'm not really into grip tape so prefer a textured grip. The subject seems to polarise people however with answers everywhere from 'you'd be insane to run AMP' to 'love em, what's the big deal?' Makes deciding tricky at best. Can anyone suggest an object I can go grab and squeeze that imparts a sensation of the AMP? Keep in mind I live in NZ so porcupine analogies won't help Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Well, the pistol will be infinicoat DLC finish so sanding the grips won't be an option. Where the bleeding and calluses are concerned, do you have tough working hands to start with or lady man desk jockey hands or something in between like mine? . Don't mind a few calluses provided they are not prominent and I don't have ongoing issues with dry fire practice wearing holes in my hand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I don't want to bother Brandon any more than I have to as he is busy building pistols (mind among them). I can't try any of the grip textures so have to rely on what I can glean from online, this forum being the biggest contributor. Basically I can't decide between the aggressive micro-pockets that some run and love and the tactical micro-pockets ('spike'). Those that have the aggressive micro-pockets - was this texture ever too much or the cause of an unexpected drawback? Wish you had gone with a little tamer texture? I tried a couple of 'courses of fire' around the house with the spikey portion of a cheese grater to try and replicate the feel some had compared too on and while the feel didn't bother me much I can't be sure its indicative of the actual SVI grip Those with the tactical micropockets - did you every wish that you had gone with something a little more grippy? I have somewhat tough hands and and a bit of bite doesn't bother me though I do like to be able to move my hand on the pistol at times when running between shooting positions if the grip from the holster wasn't the best
  25. Mine will look like this but in 5.4
