Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I have tried Winchester, Remington and Federal...haven't tried Starline. Tom at TK is all dialed in though...he knows exactly which moonclip for which brass whatever you want to do. He can even custom make clips if you need it...but you won't. I have found that Federal brass is the best fit for the TK moonclips that come with the 929 and I have had NO problems with extraction that were moonclip related...only powder related. Now I use Federal brass, TK moonclips and N320 powder and my 929 runs flawless at 138 PF.
  2. It's not rocket science...but close! Any of us can take a S&W revolver apart and polish the parts, install some springs, bla, bla.... But if you are going to go out and try to compete with your revolver, how many trips to you want to make only to discover light strikes, poor accuracy, trigger return problems...the list goes on and on. Bottom line IMHO is take it to a good, known, REVOLVER expert and get it back done right and ready to go to work...in the long run, it's not even much more expensive. Some of the greats are TK Custom, Clark, Pinnacle, Apex, Tanaka....but I looked online and discovered that Rich Wolfe, John Bagakis and other undeniable experts have their guns built by Dave Lake at Bentwood Gunsmithing. So I had two of mine done by him (627 & 929) and I have had several friends also have their competition revolvers done by him and all of them have been virtually flawless. Beautiful work, no problems at all and he is a nice personable guy who knows about revolver competitions and what you really need and what you don't. He's fast and reasonable on price. I highly recommend him! Dave Lake Bentwood Gunsmithing 180 Cassia Way Suite 107 Henderson, NV 89014 (702) 906-0930 info@bentwoodgunsmithing.com
  3. Well, I don't know all the who, what, when, where and why's...but it is the end of February and the match is scheduled for mid June...and they don't even have the web site up or a Practiscore match entry listed. I would say that is at least poor planning...and more likely they just don't care about WSSC and they would just as soon see it die. This is ridiculous! The Area 1 Regional is also in June and it has been up and going for months...in fact I just heard it is sold out!
  4. 147 grain Xtreme 9mm plated RN (.357 dia) 4.0 grains VV N320 (cool burning and super clean) Federal brass (fits TK moonclips the best) Federal match primers (soft) COAL 1.169" (SAAMI max) Average of 48 rounds over chrono: 871 fps / 128 PF (only 7 out of 48 didn't make 125 PF) Accuracy good (3" at 25 yds) Extraction good (drop right out easy) No excessive pressure signs (no flat primers or cracked cases) 2000+ rounds fired with NO negative issues... ****I am not a ballistician...this load info is just my experience NOT my recommendation****
  5. Has anyone asked Federal about this? This sounds like defective ammo...not a flaw in the gun. If this same ammo was fired in a semi-auto, wouldn't striking the feed ramp push the bullet in deeper? And if the crimp is insufficient, wouldn't these rounds have headspace issues in a semi-auto? I'd like to hear what Federal would have to say...
  6. Can anybody confirm the dates on the 2015 Western States Single Stack Championship in Mesa? I can't find anything on it anywhere else on the internet and I don't wanna miss it. November would be good!
  7. If I understand correctly, one hold up is to see how many slots get filled by sponsored shooters...who all have spots held for them if they want them. After they respond, those unused "held" spots free up for "wait listed" guys. Does anybody know what the "approval" consists of? Just credit card? Or confirm USPSA membership status?
  8. Well I'm in too...not a short drive for me though...also shooting revolver!
  9. I read that Rob shot the USPSA Revolver Nationals with a 627 in .38 super using 9mm cases. That being the case (no pun intended) I'd sure like to know what load he uses. I have a 4" 627 in .357 with a TI 327 cylinder which has been reamed to 9mm. I've been trying to find a load using 9mm cases that will make minor and is not a maxed out, high pressure load. I have found through experimentation that whatever I feed it runs past the chrono at about 100-125 fps slower that if I shoot it out of a Glock. Hearing that Rob made it work gives me hope.
