Is there beer involved here?

I had feed problems with Xtreme plated 200gr SWC. The other bullet I tried was Missouri cast 200gr SWC with a H&G #68 profile. They feed ok, but the OD was too much and caused case bulge and chamber jams. They may offer two OD's of which the smaller would work.

Shot an IDPA match today with a 13# spring in my G34 gen 4 with 115gr RN. Target acquisition/recovery was definitely much better.

I was changing calibers on my 550B today and after cleaning the black dirt from the primer bar, I applied and wiped off some Frog Lube. Wow, it was made for this. Made it slick with out leaving a film. Dirt won't be attracted either. If you have FL, give it a try on the bar.

Some of you are missing a point I was trying to make. In order for panic buying to take place, the powder has to make it to the retailers. That's a key thing that is missing.......LGS are not receiving shipments, and I guess, mail order houses either.

I agree, that is one place the powder is going. Since powder has become more and more scarce over the past 3 years, that would mean the ammo manufactures were not operating at full bore in 2011, 2012 and 2013. During that time we were told they were at full capacity. So now they are using more powder? Again, it does not add up for me.

A harsh comment, but something does not add up. Consider this; The manufactures say they are balls-to-the-wall with production. The manufactures say they are not supplying abnormal amounts of product to the government. But on the other hand, product is not showing up at the local shops, as well as mail order houses who are out of stock. I spoke to a shop owner yesterday. He said last week's order was for 1,300 pounds from the distributor, and he recived 76 pounds. The general excuse is that consumers are hoarding. That may be a 'little bit' true, but not that much. If hoarding was true, local shops would have there orders filled weekly and the product snatched up by hoarders in 2 days. That's not the case ANYWHERE. Someone is lying. Powder is being created at the entry to the pipeline, and not showing up at the other end. It has to be somewhere !!!! Or, not being manufactured to start with. Like I say, it does not add up. Where am I wrong?

I spoke to a Glock Armor at the Phila gun show yesterday and he said a lighter spring would produce more felt recoil, much like Apexer said. The guy had an attitude like a junk yard dog, so I factored that in with his thoughts. Something like, anything a person came up with was rejected off hand. In contrast, some of you like the better handling with 13#'s. What kind of difference do you see/feel?

Who sells those springs?

I loaded some, new to me, .45 RN plated today. The cup radius on the seating stem is not open enough to accept Xtreme 230gr RN without imprinting a ring indent on the bullet. I guess others have had to machine this part to accept this ogive. Or is there another solution?

I'm considering shooting USPSA with my present guns. I read the rules and concluded; Glock 34 with no modifications in production, 10 round in mag, one in the chamber. OK STI Trojan 9mm with Dawson magwell, 9 round mags in Limited 10. OK? The readied state with the STI is holstered, 9 in the mag and one in the chamber, hammer cocked, and safety on. OK? Do I have this right ???

Reminds me of driving north from Fla to Pa during the Sandy storm. I passed many convoys of line trucks headed up north to help. Then NJ lineman's union would not let them in to help restore power. Yup, I bought me a 10kw genset. And, I too, haven't had an outage since; even through this past winter with major ice storms. There is something spooky about that.

Took 60 rounds out to the range today. Results aren't good. Performed many loads from a full mag (kept reloading the 8th round over again). If the action was closed, mag inserted, and the slide racked, I got 100% nose dive. If it was in slidelock, mag inserted, and the release pressed I got 90% success. Only had 1 or 2 nose dives in mid magazine. I have about 800 bullets on hand. I can use them for paper punching/practice, but will try and sell them at matches. I give up. LOL

I just now came up from the loading bench after trying something. I had been working with just one mag in looking for an aol; finding 1.255" was the sweet spot. I didn't try the other 3 mags, so I ran the dummy rounds through them. The last mag had the first round nose dive repeatably. Then I measured the oal and found it was down to 1.245" (chambering must have tapped it in some). Changing the first round to a 1.255" aol ended the nose dive. This confirms that this gun needs that oal. I'll check the mag mouth for edges; good thought. These swc have a smaller OD nose than the H&G 68. That may have some dynamic that makes chambering easier. Time to load live rounds and head to the range.

The gun and mags are new. STI Trojan and Metalform mags. The ramp looks like a mirror. The round nose print 2" vertical and 4" horn at 25 yes. The 4" is because of my sight alignment. It is not worth it for meh to try and grind out more accuracy than that. I just want to be able to use the remaining 800 swc's without the jam. I saw a post where a guy thought the plated were softer than pure cast which apparently run ok. It could be when the dent/gouge is made that it is serve enough to hang on the ramp/frame joint. Changing the oal may reduce the dent to where it will feed ok. The frame is slightly proud of the ramp which should aid feeding. Jamming.or not, deforming every bullet is not good. I will not try farther to make use of the swc. Thanks for your ideas.

There were comments on another string about rounds nose-diving with Xtreme 200gr plated swc. Sixty per cent of my loads were nose diving on the first round of an 8 rd mag. Out of 60 rounds, only one jammed from mid mag. Someone had a good suggestion of loading dummy rounds at different OAL for bench testing to find a sweet OAL. Note that my first loads were at 1.220" (nose dived) and the most recent, detailed above, were at 1.245". I found the max OAL that engaged the lands was 1.321". When set deeper at 1.270", they were too long for the mag. After several adjustments I found 1.255" would clear the mag and chamber without nose diving. That appears to be my gun's sweet spot. A range test of 100 rounds will confirm. However, all is not peachy. I found the cause of ND'g. The leading edge of the bullet's nose hits the juncture of the frame and barrel ramp. My longer OAL helps get by that 'catch'. There still is a problem in that the juncture puts a significant dent on the bullet. I'm under the impression that every bullet is so marked. It's puzzling that very good accuracy is achieved with these dinged bullets. I have to think that RN would see the same accuracy and avoid the potential of ND'g. At least I will be able to shoot my stock of SWC after which I think it will be RN for this gun. Just my thoughts.

I saw where the Marauder pistol was an answer to 3-gun comps. I like the piece, although a bit pricey for me, but wondered what the 3-gun demand was that is different than other comps.

I shoot with an undertaker. I must be careful with what I do.

I'm a benchrest shooter and see a lot of my competitors load between sessions on the line. It is considered necessary when shooting 6mmPPC because of temp sensitivity as the day heats up. They use maybe 20 pieces of brass. My shooting buddy per-weighs the powder at home and stores it in glass vials. He does it to be able to use the same brass. If chasing temps, weighing at the match is required. The .30 BR is not sensitive to heat and so I load 100 to 150 rounds at home. They use arbor presses and Wilson dies, as I do at home. It would not make sense to me to go through the same loading routines for pistol, given the lack of accuracy (achieved or needed) and the number of rounds fired. Plus, when would the loading time be available during the match?

A Glock Armorer told me that the Glock grease is in fact a breakin lube that has a polishing compound in it. Leave it in there and fire away. I have copper showing through the plating on the "H" shaped piece that the slide rides on after a couple thousand rounds. Not sure why.
