  1. Well the match just finished, Practice Score Results are here https://practiscore.com/results/html/1f78de0f-7cbf-41fc-af83-a3d84165365c.  We had 9 ISR and 6 OSR a pretty good turnout, last year we had 6 in each.

This year Jess Christensen came up from Arkansas and put a whooping on us locals.  He beat last years ISR and OSR winners by over 10% each.

    Congratulations Jess!

Hope to see everyone again next year.

  2. Most likely a previous owner had trimmed and squared the crane barrel and added shims that got lost at some point.

One theory is that this method results in a smoother cylinder rotation.

Interesting. If I could secure a steel washer to the bottom of my speed loader, I wonder if a magnetic moon clip holder would work? I just had a cylinder cut for moon clips, and if I could run moon clips and speed loaders on the same device, that would simplify logistics.

In comp iii they run a screw up the middle underneath.  Might not work with russians though.

I have no issues loading coated 358 coated bullets into 38 short colt using a regular dillon 9mm powder funnel.
Have also loaded all the other things u listed with regular die and dillon funnel/ flare thing..
SO what is or what does a M die do ?

With a progressive i.e. 1050 or 650/750 the uniquetek helps with the bullet flopping out of the case on rotating.  Under size sizing die gives the tightest fit, uniquetek powder tube for.358 bullets then opens the mouth just a bit below the flare allowing the bullet to ride round the progressive without falling out.  Yet doesn't affect the tightness below it.  It's not an issue with my 550.

Thanks All, late last night I started working backwards...pulled the hammer and ext FP out, the FP is new and the hole is free and clear. Working up from the bottom of the hammer there looked to be nothing out of sorts. Then I saw a shiny rub mark just below the top radius on the right side of the hammer. I reassembled everything and could see that the hammer/frame gap on the right side was a lot smaller than the left side. As the gun heated up during a good session yesterday the issue came up later on and with this small of a gap I can see hammer travel impingement being an issue here.

Is the solution as simple as removing small amounts from the hammer or is it a hammer shim kind of a thing? This is a new factory gun so there's no wear/slop that should be taken up by a shim. There doesn't seem to be any burrs on the frame so I'm not going to touch that.

NO, Ron Power sells shims for just that issue.  Go to his website or Midway and get a pack.

  6. Send an email to dnroi and ask.  Looks like a few newer one's have this omission.  He always responds quickly.

Might be as simple as allowing each club to set the height to adapt safely to each individual range?

Or might be a general policy listed somewhere.

yeh with the 627 If I dont have reloads, like you said I can pick up a couple boxes of wally world 38's on way to match. Plus I had fun they other day shooting some drills with my full power magnum loads over 2400.

Did that in a uspsa match 2 years ago, fun.

I dont mind reloading 38 short... Just cant bring myself to waste components on 9mm.. I had several cases on hand,, but as mentioned only the Rems worked...
Was gonna try the USPSA match in Hutch on Sunday, but rain and 30-40 mph wind... although had planned on using my old Limited gun.

With your schedule i can understand, the goal is to have fun.

It had better be because you are trying to cut down on the number of people who volunteer to run the timers :) .

    Kind of a conundrum?

I'd rather have a physical stage vs a memory stage. But you design it and run it and I won't gripe about shooting it.  And give me the courtesy in reverse.

50 yard shots and/or standards used to be expected at any L3 match 20 years ago, as were low ports and/or prone and dragging/carrying things to make you shoot one-handed.

Carrying a dummy, haven't done that since double tap 2 decades ago.  Guess that would be considered physical.

trying to find factory loads I could count on in a 929 revolver..  and wanted to see velocity difference.. I ended up selling the 929 and getting a 627... I dont have much use for a gun I have to dick around that much with ammo. With short colt and moons readily available,, 9mm 929 wasnt worth the hassle for me

With good moons 38 specials don't give up anything and you don't have to reload.

Jess christensen won the 2022 free state with that combo.  He is making a return for the a3 sc championship in april. I should be practicing rather than posting!

It might be different for new shooters who are initially learning with a dot. Good shooters who have been using irons for 10-20-30 years already know how to align them the sights. If the benefit for them using an optic is improving their grip and trigger control their overall iron sight shooting improves also.

Agreed 100%.  I would recommend to new shooters to learn irons first.  But im probably wrong.  Ease, supposedly, of use reigns supreme in the modern world though.

And I am just a grumpy old dinosaur!🙉

I used to shoot ICORE but havent been for several years. As far as shooting with an optic a discussion I had with a good shooter convinced me to give it a try.  He always shot Limited and Singlestack with iron sights of course but he started shooting Carry Optics with a slide mounted optic. Later he noticed that his iron sight shooting had improved and he wished he'd tried an optic years ago.

I've been shooting in the provisional Limited Optics, still getting used to it but improving. The first time I shot with iron sights again I could tell I was using target focus more.

Practicing with a Dot tells you where your grip and trigger work are lacking.  But at the expense of learning the sight picture needed for a given shot with iron sights.

With the trend for Dots on all things Iron Sights are becoming dinosaurs!  Heck even USPSA is looking at allowing Dots on Revolvers!  Oh the humanity.
