I did the same thing based on this thread. There is almost nothing out there about the scope other than this (small) community. I am glad I did and also sold a razor after using this one a bit.

I have not spent any real time building loads with these, but did load up a few in cases already charged for 77gr SMKs. They were running around 70fps faster than the SMKs (2820 for the ELD) with no pressure signs in 8208. With their BC and cost, there's a lot of potential here if I can get them to shoot.

Fair, a Leupold Mark 4 spotter is the best I have used. There is probably better equipment.

It does not say how many rounds were fired at that target before one made contact. Probably a few, although it does not detract from how impressive it is. Just too many variables in 3400m and a 10 second flight time.

Tikka T3 TAC A1 is a decent turnkey rifle that really requires nothing and is easy to find in 6.5mm or .260. I've seen a number of newer shooters show up, zero them, and start hammering 12" plates at 800 and 1000 with little effort. I have not seen one that did not shoot. I was so impressed with the last one I saw that I got a .260 instead of rebarreling an existing rifle.

This pretty much sums it up. It is very good at what it sets out to do, which is balance a number of priorities- size, weight, durability, power, illumination, clarity, etc. I have not had much time with mine yet, but think the reticle is very usable and the excellent illumination somewhat mitigates the tight eye box. However, if you consider that its retail puts it close to Swarovski and Kahles, it is a very difficult decision. For what it is worth, I would trade my NX8 for another K16 without much hesitation.

I use 24.3gr TAC or 23.5gr 8208xbr with custom competition or sierra 77gr OTMs at magazine length. These will produce ~2700 in most 16" barrels and represent 5.56-pressure loads that are not recommended for .223 chambers. Regardless, they should be started low and worked up to. 600 yards near sea level is still easy, but it will start to get a little more dicey at 800 and you are more or less pushing the limits of the cartridge. YMMV

I have never seen that before either...it does appear to have sealant and a very aggressive crimp. I break or bend a lot of decapping pins....the culprit is usually tumbling media that has gotten into the shellplate grooves and offcenters the case, berdan brass (rare in this caliber), brass with a small or slightly offcenter flash hole, and some that are just hard to decap. I've had brass that bulges the primer out and pushes the decap rod up into the die before decapping it. Good luck.

You will have difficulty resolving bullet holes at 500 with anything. 300 or so is as good as I have gotten, give or take some depending on lighting. If you don't require a milling reticle, the field opens considerably. The razor HD would be a great option and that is a decent price.

You should, there are discount codes floating around this forum that drop it well below a Razor II purchase price. I bought one to check it out and ended up liking it better than my Razor and Mark 6 for this use. Not sure if I like it better than a K16, but you could have 2 C3s for the price of a K16.

I think something with the rifle is likely, but it's worth eliminating the optic system variable. A note on the LaRue mounts- I've not seen the split rings be much of a problem in practice, but their mounts will come out of adjustment and slide on the receiver until the recoil lugs stop them. Even if it feels tight, it may be moving. Probably not enough to have a significant effect on precision for this type of rifle, but if you check the bottom of one that has been in use for a while you may find that the mounting surfaces and recoil lugs are worn white from sliding on the receiver during recoil. Check the bottom of any heavily used LT mount and you will probably find this. The levers have to be almost painfully tight to prevent this wear in the long term. Of course, this marks your receiver if that is a concern.

With the type of bulk/cheap bullets that are typically include a cannelure, I have not noticed any difference. While a different bullet weight, I have also shot the SMK 77gr with cannelure and did not notice any difference their either. The SMKs had a very light cannelure, however.

"More gas pressure" would be a more accurate way to say it. The gas has had less time to expand in the short barrel and is at higher pressure when it hits the brake. It ought to be the same principle that makes shorter barrels louder.

With the same parts other than the barrel, they definitely do if braked. Shorter barrel means more gas to make the brake work. I have 20, 18, and 14.5 rifle or similar gas, 16 midlength, and 11.5 carbine and 10.3 carbine. With the same brakes (SF dual port) the short guns are the flattest, even with full mass carriers and heavy buffers. They almost pull forward. The 14.5 comes close though. They suck for pulling out of barrels and mid range work. That plus NFA is probaby why they aren’t more common.

It's this. Plus, bullpup triggers are usually terrible, and none of the companies in on the rfp have a history of building them. Much better to submit a mostly off the shelf design than invest the R&D in something new.

Extruded, but short cut. It meters very well for an extruded powder.

OK, I will try this. In other news germane to this thread, Powder Valley sent out their price change notification for the new year. Hodgdon is going up by 2%, as is their subsidiary IMR. I think Western/Ramshot is the only powder maker holding prices this year, and they are already cheap.

Thanks for the information. I was never tied into shooter's world before. A better metering alternative to varget and 4064 would be very nice. Would love to to do all my rifle loading on the progressive.

I think prices on the Hodgdon Extreme line have always been a little higher and would consider anything lower than $190 to be a good deal on 8lb of it. Many of the wholesalers (at least brownells and PV) have run 1c hazmat on $200+ orders recently. Other brands, particularly alliant and ramshot, seem to be more competitive than the hodgdon/imr conglomerate, or winchester, for that matter.

Yes, using Dillon case lube. I don't really clean it, either, and it does not seem to matter.

Currently, 3.8 of WST with a 124gr coated or 4.0 with a 125gr plated at 1.15 for either. I'm over it though due to the crazy temperature swings that come with seasons...like 10 or more PF. I think I'm going to try E3 next as the word is that it is pretty stable.
