Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Last time I checked, even JP won't ship their lowers into California. For you to ship the upper is no problem at all. If it was me, I'd get a box, remove the stock, mag release and pistol grip from the lower and put them in the box along with the upper and ship them directly to your customer (which is perfectly legal). It will probably be easier for you to find an FFL to deal with a "stripped" lower, and get it sent to an FFL in California rather than the whole rifle.
  2. When you get it installed and adjusted correctly, there should be no creep and a very crisp break. At least that's been my experience, but I had JP install mine (not brave enough to do it myself on my first AR!)
  3. You lucky SOB! I can't wait until next year. Slammer, it's a long wait... (mine was about 22 weeks, just for the upper) but when it arrives, you'll never regret it!
  4. I just fired my new JP-15 for the first time. We took it to the range to put it through the barrel break in procedures and 150 rounds later I had a 1.5 inch hole missing from the middle of the target. Considering I've never fired an AR before, and this is the first one I've ever owned, I was pretty pleased. The rifle fired beautifully and even at our action range, attracted it's fair share of attention from other shooters!
  5. Thanks for all the tips guys! I ended up with the DPMS Detachable Rear Sight, and the DPMS Mangonel Flip-Up Front. Not so much for the "flip-up" (I could care less) but for the fact that it was designed to work on top of the low profile JP Gas Block. With an 18 inch barrel there would barely be any room to squeeze a barrel mounted sight between the gas block and the comp. I'll probably purchase a JP Globe Front somewhere along the line, but was looking to keep the costs down at the moment. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet... still waiting for the final parts, the mag release and the castle nut.
  6. So I've got a new AR upper arriving Wednesday from JP. I'll be using it (when assembly is completed) to make my first attempts at 3-gun. I wanted to start out with iron sights, and I've run a search here in the B.E. forums and read up on all the suggestions. I was all set to go with the recommendations that Kurt gave to another forum reader (a removable A2 rear sight and was going to install the JP gas block with the A2/M4 sight just behind the comp for maximum sight radius), but after consulting with JP found that the gas block sight won't fit my barrel. The folks at JP are recommending their JPFS-ALS "globe" front sight, and that I attach it to the rifle's gas block. Has anyone used the "globe" front setup for 3-gun? Are there any other recommendations? I'm definitely sticking with the removable A2 at the rear, but the front is now up for debate. The only other option I've found for attachment to a low-profile gas block is the DMPS Mangonel front sight. Thoughts anyone? Thanks! Mike
  7. If you're thinking about ordering from JP, be prepared for a wait. When I ordered my upper from them I got quoted 14 weeks. I'm now at 18 weeks and still no word. As this upper will build my first AR, it's an especially difficult wait, but I'm sure in the end it will be well worth it! M
  8. I've still got about 5 or 6 weeks to go on my JP-15 upper. It's not even here yet and I'm starting to lust after that LRP-07 too! Mike
  9. It's my opinion that you'll shoot far better with something that feels comfortable in your hand. I have small hands... I've shot lots of guns that were wonderful, but just didn't fit me well. That being said, there's lots you can do to change the grip on a Glock with a little sandpaper. madmike

    Glock Talk

GT was also the first forum I visited when I started researching a Glock for Action Shooting, and there was a lot of good info... but... I just can't take any more of the "I own a Glock in every model... which one is your favorite"... posts. And when you ask about modifying something... like adding grip tape, you always get... "If Gaston intended for it to have grip tape, he would've put it on himself". And I'm sure if you visited right now there'd be a post that looked like "Glock's are already perfect, but if you were Gaston, how would you make them perfecter".
  11. It's illegal to import a Caspian frame into California. The receiver itself is considered a firearm, and if it's not on the list, it's no-go.
  12. I would recommend Lone Wolf. While one of my orders through them had some confusion involved, they've always been helpful and quick when contacted by phone. I've also ordered numerous times from CGR (Custom Glock Racing) and have been nothing but thrilled. madmike
  13. I've got the Dawson ICE on my G35. Here's some requested pics: The extensions I have on the mags (which are 10 rounders) are the Taylor Freelance +0 (I'm in California) which are heavy brass to help drop free. I recently had the chance to use another shooter's standard capacity mags with the Arredondo and while they took a good solid whack to seat, they functioned perfectly with the ICE. I'll admit, I went with the ICE for the "look" factor as well as it's highly regarded functionality. I didn't want a big shiny hunk of brass hanging off the end of the gun. And while the ICE is heavy and brass it's got a beautiful flat-black finish that fit with my OD frame well. Hope this helps. madmike
  14. Somebody already brought up YES, but here's a couple more: King Crimson Happy The Man Genesis (early Peter Gabriel stuff like "Selling England By The Pound") And one of my favorites, Gentle Giant There was also a great Italian prog rock band called PFM. Good stuff! madmike
  15. Mmmmmm..... 8 Arendondo's showed up in the mail this morning! Thanks for the recommendations everyone! madmike
