  1. I just backed our new vehicle into a pole and the trick of pouring boiling water on the plastic bumper works. I am glad I boiled two pots full, because the first one didn't budge it, but the second one popped it right into shape!
  2. It does make a racket. We are fortunate to have a house that puts the tumbler at the opposite end of the house and a story and a half down from the bedroom, I set the timer when I go to bed. At first I was reluctant to leave it stagnant for most of the night after it shuts off, thinking it might leave tarnishes. But I let it run for another minute or two in the morning and then dump it out and the cases look great.
  3. I am curious also, but I think it is because of the bullet cup closing the back of the bullet instead of the front.
  4. Sounds like a flawed unit if it only lasted that long? RCBS shows a two year warranty for the current product. That said, I have been completely happy with my FART that I bought in 2017.
  5. If a person only loaded 115gn for 9mm pistols it would indeed be a long payback. If you wanted to load something like 77gn 5.56 you could ROI in a few thousand rounds and the 9mm loading would be done on paid off equipment.
  6. It has also been my understanding that the original 9mm Colt hammer was specific to 9mm, and the bolt was shaped differently where it would be cocking the trigger, and that is part of the reason for not being directly compatible with a 5.56 trigger group. Additionally complicating matters is that some bolts have been revised to work with a 5.56 hammer. I am no expert because mine is an old one (early adopter!) that was purchased as an upper and a lower that were built (from same manufacturer) so I assumed compatibility and didn't alter either, but I studied enough to make my decision not to. Back then not many PCC triggers were available, by now I have shot it enough to be content with it the way it is. If I start doing more Steel Challenge maybe I will consider it again someday.
  7. BTW, I just finished loading 9k recently purchased Winchester SPP on my RL1100 with no issues.
  8. I have always let the rod chase the primers down the tube, just as a means of knowing they all fell. Probably started doing this once after pulling the tube away and spilling some remaining primers.
  9. I am fortunate to live near WPAFB, and the club there has done a great job of supporting trap and skeet. Six of the seven active ranges are configured to shoot either, and for registered shoots they leave one practice range for the other discipline for that weekend (with only a few exceptions). But it is (now, since after 9/11) just a shotgun club.
  10. Maybe swap around the strikers? Or get a few new ones, they are cheap and easy to swap.
  11. Hell, in a lotta cases the Trap guys don't like the Skeet guys and the Skeet guys don't like the Trap guys.
  12. I would have the same speculation... I like trap and skeet, do it almost weekly in the summer, but the membership sure varies.
  13. Hmmmm.... I am wondering what could be a factor from a trigger standpoint, since the Apex uses the factory striker spring. Maybe something is not allowing the Striker Block from getting moved?
  14. I am surprised that didn't alert you to the problem with a loud pop!
  15. All my SRP pistol rounds worked great, in practice...
  16. And I am in Dayton. Casual multi-gun shooter.
  17. When I bought the the Armanov checker I thought I would only use it for special match or class type ammo, but since I have it I have started to enjoy having the MTM boxes (used to think it was dumb). Split cases will show up there, and I try and separate them so I do not inadvertently load them again. Anything else that doesn't pass gets run though the Lee FCD and loaded into magazines for my Shield and blasted away in practice. Also split cases will not bell properly and are apparent when placing a bullet, or with a bullet feeder they bullet will probably fall off when they advance.
  18. It seems like another aspect to this is when does a match participant become a match participant. Is someone participating prior to paying the entry fee? I do not currently shoot USPSA, but when I shoot multi-gun I am traveling to and from while in custody of 2-3 firearms and 200-300 rounds of ammo for them I think I have a responsibility to be able to care for them, but by the time I hand over Andrew Jackson I am cold.
  19. The RL1100 is a shorter stroke, .308 max, so if you never plan to do 30-06 I would get the RL1100. In my case I ended up with a supply of 9mm that was polluted with some crimped cases. The cheap thing would have been to discard every piece of 9mm brass on hand (since that would have been, like FREE...) but that is not how I am wired!! But seriously, I knew I eventually wanted one, and when I retire (just a few more years...) I expect my volume to go up (only typically shooting one day a week now), and I decided every additional year I waited would just be one more year of my remaining life I would not have it, so I sold a bunch of safe queens and went ahead. Now that I have it there are more advantages than swaging, but it is nice to know there is no issue with a crimped case sneaking into the woodpile. And while 99% of the time it is setup for 9mm (with a bullet feeder) occasionally I change toolheads and size and swage all of the 223 I have on hand, and then take any sketchy ones and convert them to 300BO. Then I trim and wash them, and when I need to I load them on the 650. So jumping straight in to an RL1100 sure is an expensive route, but the sooner you buy one the lower the cost per year of ownership will be.
  20. Here is a link to my comments in another thread. I always ask if you are planning to buy a press and never ever buy anything else the rest of your life? I think it is more of a process. In my case I ended up with more than one machine, and now have a 550, 650, 1100, Rockchucker and just got a Co-Ax. Changeover is one reason I ended up with more than one press, once I am setup I do not like screwing with it. I also do not tend to thrash out thousands of rounds like it is a job because I need to switch out. Currently setting up the 550 for 45AARP, and the 1100 is still cranking out the 9mm that is in process. I would not drop rifle charges on a 550 and seat a bullet without a probe powder check, you cannot see down the neck very well. You will probably want to de-prime and size in a first step anyway, so you can trim and clean before charging and seating. But you could drop rifle charges on a separate measure (or automatic scale). These threads always net the spectrum, I say watch a bunch of video, this one might be a good one to start with.
  21. That was a great idea, simply laying the thing on the lid! I also like the Tri-Way, and I can cheap out as well as the next guy, I bought an $18 drill from WM (I think they are up to $23 now). The area where a handle can clamp fits a muffler clamp and it worked out great. Also, I have a couple of the WFT versions. They are simply end mills that cut a flat face on the brass, the TW trims and deburrs very nicely. However, the TW cannot hog the material down very fast. Since I already had the WFT in 223 I do a two step rough/finish process, basically trimming them in the WFT and touching them up in the TW. This is not that fast, but my volumes are not that high, mostly multi-gun just a couple times a month (and they are not so high volume at the clubs I go to, since ammo got expensive). Another reason I do it this way is it is less time to be holding the case tight enough to not spin. Before I got my TW I borrowed the Power Trimmer and it is a nice unit, but not nearly as powerful as my crappy drill motor, and it could be stalled fairly easily. I also like the TW (and WFT) being inexpensive enough to have dedicated trimmers, it takes two seconds to swap and once I have one set the way I want I will not need to touch it for an indefinite period of time. The Dillon setup looks great, but a pretty big additional investment, and my volume is not that high.
  22. Another Squirrel Daddy user here. They make expanders also for 22 and 30 cal.
  23. Not my experience, are they unloaded or loaded?
  24. Fortunately with pistol rounds powder is the smallest part of the financial puzzle, in my case (with 147gn bullets) 12%.
