  1. I've been quad loading out of 2.8s and thought the same about loading two. But in a recent shotgun match I fumbled my first quad load and at the next reload reverted back to load 2 with a full caddy and it went as smooth as any I've ever done.
  2. I have the Seekins handguard and wouldn't do it. I initially had a short piece of rail attached on the bottom but quickly realized drawbacks with that. I could see the abrasive skate tape being just one more thing to slow you down on transitions.
  3. Sometimes you don't get a good sight picture and have to settle for "acceptable". When faced with an unstable support I first try and get into a reverse kneeling position if I'm not winded already. Get the best sight picture that I can which usually means the reticle is floating around the target and try and break the shot just as the reticle start to cross the target. I practice this by using a barricade and shoot an array of 200 yard steels from left to right and then right to left as fast as I can using different positions on the barricade. This drill has helped a lot when it comes to unstable supports and getting the feel for breaking the shot as the reticle touches the target.
  4. That must be one helluva good offer!
  5. yes, I go there sometimes to test ammo or work on a specific drill when I don't have the time to drive to my training range. I shot in their "match" and strongly recommend you seek out other competitions as soon as possible. The courses of fire they had were good for an 'introduction to competitive shooting" class, but you can learn so much more in one IPSC, or USPSA match. You'll find other first timers / newbies at just about any local match so don't worry about not having "experience". There's only one way to get that experience. Every shooter at a match was green at some point and most of them remember what it was like and are very willing to help you out. Go to the NTx lead farmers training session tomorrow night. That will be the best $25 you'll spend this week.
  6. Ok, if it ain't the nut but the factory tube threads..... why do I have the same issue on two guns with CA tubes? If the CA stainless tube is locktited into properly cleaned receiver threads and the barrel nuts are tightened, they won't loosen. I'll tell this to my guns so they'll behave like they're supposed to.

  8. So that's how it's supposed to be done?
  9. I have a Nordic extension on a carbon arms tube and just make the habit of tightening the nut every time before I shoot a stage, practice run, etc... It just works loose.

  11. The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!!! And they have ammo Met a great bunch of guys a long way from home today. I hooked them up with ammo and they gave me one of their club jerseys. Cool dudes!
  12. I know better than to read these posts because when I do I start to thinking that maybe, just maybe I'm healed enough to come shoot. But then I spend an hour on my feet and reality sets in. And I get sad. Very sad Maybe if sometime during the match each shooter would break a good shot for me I won't feel so bad not being there? Best of luck to all!
  13. IMHO the best way to accomplish that is to add the Carbon Arms Versatube. I have that on my two Versamax and have not had any magazine feed issues. It is not the cheapest way to get magazine capacity.
  14. I've got a zev maxwell on my grip reduced 17. I just didn't cut the grip to the point of getting into the void.
  15. The only problem I've had with the Rios is that sometimes they wouldn't chamber cleanly. I did a little polishing on the extractor cut and that seemed to help, but it only happened on the Rios and cheap white box winchesters. I'd avoid getting CLP in the gas ports / pistons. I'm not a fan of that stuff in general and could see that getting into the pistons/ports and gumming things up.
  16. I can run those rios all day. Try some Winchester AA in 1145 fps and see if they will work.
  17. I use Briley chokes in my versamax and I tighten my chokes before every stage. They get a little loose after each run. Maybe something to do with differential thermal expansion rates between the barrel and the tube?
  18. so how does the OSS underneath not get in the way of load-2 or quads???
  19. I can't speak for or against the Super Vinci but I can quad load my versamax pretty easily. It took some tweaking of the shell latch and loading port to get it where I wanted, and the forearm took some shaving. But it's pretty damn good now. I like it so much that I bought another versamax for Crucible Armament to do some magic with.
