  1. I found Invictus from this post and got the 8Q quad load and the 2point 8 caddy. I mounted the 8Q using the 2 point adapter to get the angle I wanted for strong hand loading. I'd tried every quad load caddy out there but did not find one that I liked, until this. The way the shell clips hold and release the shells is perfect for me. Once you see them firsthand you can see the attention to detail and thought process that has gone into the design. After my first practice session with the caddies I finally feel comfortable quad loading and really like the fact that with the 2point 8 caddy, I'm now carrying 8 shells in the space I was only able to carry 6 before. I think Kevin nailed it with this design!
  2. You have 6 oz on the muzzle with that comp. Not that I didn't like that comp, but if muzzle heavy is an issue for you, there's part of the problem.
  3. I have the same gun but with the UBR stock and seekins comp. With the Bushnell 1- 6.5 optic and JP mount mine comes in at just a shade under 9 lb.
  4. I used the Ram caddies most of last year but made one adjustment to them. I took a 1/8" x 3/4" aluminum bar and cut it the length of the retaining clips, Mounted it under the clips to raise the shells off the backer just a bit and that made the caddies much easier to load-2 from. I never had a problem with knocking a column of shells loose when grabbing either the first or second column. I did just try the Invictus Practical caddies and think I'll be using them for a while now.
  5. I'd like to see pics of women on the beach. Or in Wyoming ...
  6. Dang, if I had known some of Kentucky’s finest was up for grabs I would have made up a story for you. I'm working on a glass of Blantons now. Get to story tellin'.....
  7. I had a bdc reticle scope and adjusted my zero to match the loads the best I could and hated it. Got a mil based reticle and rocked it the first time out.
  8. Now I know where ghost loading came from I'll throw in a round of Bookers or Blantons!
  9. Careful with RIOs. You want to try a box before you buy them in bulk. They will not run in either my Nova or my Versa. The hull and metal casing are so thin that they expand into the large extractor groove and lock up in the chamber. The RIO buck and slugs seem to run fine in my guns. Just not the bird shot. That's interesting because I've run over 1000 of the rio game load 7-1/2 and 8 through my Vmax for training rounds in the past six months and never had a problem with them. At $55 a case they're hard to beat for training rounds. I also ran a couple boxes of rio 00buck through the Vmax yesterday with no issues.
  10. Is that the only way? I use a blade tech belt with the TMMS system and can change out all manner of caddies in just a couple of seconds.
  11. I like the maglock from cpswa. I tried the Zev but it sticks out really far and would dig into my left hand.
  12. Very well stated. And this coming from a Benelli fan too!
  13. I did some more drills at the range. 5 poppers at 10 yards and one popper at 30. 5 runs each gun from a box. Nearly identical time and one shot on the long popper each time. 3 papers at 10 yards, one popper at 30. 5 runs each gun from a box. Two shots each paper, one hit on popper. And again, nearly identical times but a light edge to the 34. It was odd because I felt faster on paper with the 17 and was able to track the sights better, but the numbers didn't support that. So.... I'm going to use the 34 in competition as is and use the 17 as my test gun for new triggers, etc...
  14. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=183566&hl=versamax&page=1 Enjoy!
  15. I didn't get to shoot yesterday but my son who also uses my pistols did go and said he felt a lot more comfortable on the longer shots with the 34.
  16. The 34 is closer to the m&p pro for sight radius. And I'm faster with the 34 than I was with the m&p. Go figure...
  17. Yes, I'm not going to win a 3gun match on the speed of my draw. It was just a starting point for data to evaluate on a rainy day at the indoor range! A bill-drill is done at 7 yards so I figured I'd start there. Much more evaluation and comparison shooting on different types of stage set ups will be needed before I can decide which gun is the better choice for me. I was just curious as to why the 5 shot time didn't show the same percent improvement with the 17 as was seen in the two shot drill.
  18. I recently started shooting a g34 for 3gun competition and am able to shoot it much better than a m&p pro I had. I have the gun modified with a zev competition spring kit, lightened striker, uncaptured guide rod and 14lb spring, zev magwell with small brass insert. The slide has a lightening cut on top. Trigger is nice and crisp 4 lbs. Sevigny FO front and Dawson comp rear sight. A couple of weeks ago I got a 17 in trade that feels almost identical to the 34 with a nice crisp trigger at 4lbs, I put the same sights on the 17 and same magwell/insert. I ran some tests the other day to compare the two and was surprised by some of the results. Maybe not as much surprised as I am at a loss to explain them. Doing a 2 shot drill at a std USPSA at 7 yds, time from draw to first shot with the 17 was 11% faster than with the 34, and the splits were 10% faster. This was using the average of 10 trials each gun using the same ammo. Doing a 5 shot drill at 7 yds, time from draw to first shot was 10% faster than the 34, but the difference in the overall time was only 6% better with the 17. This was using the average of 5 trials each gun. Accuracy was virtually the same for both. I can understand why the draw time is better with the 17, less gun to get out of the holster. And I can see why the split for the second shot is faster. My expectation from the 2 shot drill results would have put the 17 much faster at the 5 shot drill than the 34. But I only saw a small percentage difference for that drill. I realize that this is a pretty small sample data pool and that a larger data set may yield different results. But if that's not the answer, here's my question to someone more knowledgeable about this than me: Why wouldn't the differential on the 5 shot drill have been as high, or higher than on the 2 shot drill? Or... should I just shoot the 17 because it was faster in both drills!
  19. I agree in that I don't know if its better than a non captured spring, I just like the fact that its so quiet. You don't notice it until you shoot a gun without it, then the spring sounds horrendous! That being said, my new competition rifle is being built with a std JP buffer spring.
  20. I run a versamax and most of the guys I compete with either run the Vmax, m2, or the Beretta. I had the opportunity to RO a stage last weekend and saw all kinds of shotguns used. The only ones that didn't have some sort of hiccup on the 10 plates/poppers were the ones I listed above. The Stoeger may be a good gun. i know the others are. Reliability of the gun is way more important to me than a couple hundred bucks.
  21. I bought an RXIII rangefinder from a friend last spring. It was maybe a couple of years old and he bought it from a friend. A few weeks ago it quit reading past 40 yards. I contacted customer service and they gave me some things to try and if that didn't work, send it in and they'd take a look. I sent it to them a couple of weeks ago and got a card saying that my product had been received and that the repair would be done in two weeks. I got an email last week saying that my product was being shipped. I figured it was just a minor repair, or I'd done something wrong since there was no contact from them asking for my receipt, or credit card information for payment of the repair. Today the brown truck delivered a box from Leupold. Inside was a brand new RX-1000/TBR range finder. Now that is some damn good customer service!
  22. Should one keep the shotgun mounted when loading weakhand? That's what I do, but don't know if it is correct or even efficient. If you can keep the gun mounted and load weakhand you're better than me. I've tried it and am not proficient at it.
  23. 400 is a normal distance to see on one of these matches, even out to 600, but that is normally only on one stage and is certainly not the average distance. The last regular match he held last weekend of December the longest shot was 275 or so. The majority of the rifle shots on a match will be under 100 yds. If your not confident shooting the long distance targets, fire one round at it, yell "moving" and go on. The time penalty for a miss is way less than going to war with a target. I highly recommend shooting with NTMG as soon as you can, and as often as you can. I started this last January and have never been around a more enjoyable, helpful group of guys. Come to the next match and you'll be able to look through a bunch of different optics ranging from Mtac to Swaro, which is a whole lot better than trying to decide on an optic based on the picture on the website or what someone says on a forum.
