  1. Not sure if my 60 fps gopro is enough to catch me blinking or not but I need to see if I'm doing that Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  2. What's a good coc gripper to start with? #2? I'm 33 and in decent shape. Rock climbed for years. I have one of those gyro ball trainers but I don't have a grip specific trainer. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  3. tha1000 From that article you posted I am trying the "drill" of using my office door knob as my target and holding up my thumb. I can shift my focus to sharpen my thumb without creating two targets, albeit slowly, but if I try to move my thumb i lose that focus instantly. usually going full thumb focus. Are you able to move your focus like this or are you still working on it? From that article it sounded like he could transition targets while still keeping the correct front site focus. Seems like a huge task for me right now. And if I had to switch back and forth from target focus to front sight focus, without doubling the target and while shooting a stage my stage times would jump considerably.
  4. As I am rather new to USPSA scoring can you explain what you mean by the stage having a low hit factor?
  5. What is a brock string? I did not see that in the artcle.
  6. I was referred to this article by someone in another post. http://pistol-training.com/articles/vision I had never had front site focus explained like that before, and I think it is going to help me.
  7. Im 33 and most of our matchs are closer range targets. I have been shooting like you, just point shooting with a target focus. Using the article posted above I am able to sharpen my thumb/site while the target does not split into two images. I have to work at it and obviously need practice at that. When I shoot I see my sites, but they are blurry. coming from IDPA I have recently started shooting USPSA and my first match I shot almost all A's and ended up mid pack. I quickly relized, like you have, that speed is king in USPSA. Of course the top tier guys are fast and accurate. I am wondering if my site focus is causing my inablity to call shots. There will be many times I am fastest on a stage but I end up with one Mike, usually right before a reload. I am not seeing these misses and I am trying to fix that.
  8. Guess I need to learn how to see faster....what ever that means :/ Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  9. During live fire practice yesterday I did some 25 yard shots. From what I have read you want a hard front site focus on that sort of distance. With a hard front site focus I see two targets. Is this normal? I tried different ways to focus but always saw 2 targets with a front site focus. Only way to was to close my left eye to get the second target to disappear. I wear contacts but have good vision without them. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  10. I dont have access to a plate rack at the range. I ran my son and I through some drills. I can do a 2 second or less (sometimes) bill drill, I can run an el pres pretty quick, but im still not calling my shots well. I was able to shoot all A's through 5 strings of el pres. I can obviously shoot the target accurately at close range but it looks like I am doing not much more then just point shooting. I'm seeing the front fiber but a blurred fiber. There were a few times when I was practicing a draw with 2 rounds where I shot low. Like a low right Charlie/delta. I could recreate how I was holding the pistol for that shot but I did not see the sight (or lack there of) when I pressed the trigger. I have a *thumb rest [generic]* on my limited gun and I think I was pushing the gun down on the second shot. I am assuming I saw the sight come back down but continued to push the gun down while breaking the second shot. I can draw and shoot one head shot and know that I hit it without seeing the hole, but its multiple quick shots where my ability to shot call is just not there. I did some group shots from 25 yards, the shots were in line vertically but not a very tight group (6 inches or so). One thing I noticed is at 25 yards if I take a hard front sight focus my target splits into two. With the real target on the right and a ghosted target to the left. If I close my left eye it goes away. I tried multiple ways of focusing my eye but could not take a hard front sight focus without creating two targets. Should I be able to have a front sight focus at that distance and still only see one target? Ive noticed when shooting at 10 yards or less im using more of a target focus or somewhere between target and front sight focus.
  11. If your in accuracy mode (as opposed to speed mode) in dry fire you should always be able to call your shots. are you saying you can't call your shots in speed mode? that doesn't seem like it would be helpful, but perhaps I misunderstand. to me, accuracy mode means all alphas. Speed mode means as fast as I can manipulate the gun and see the sights. I am still calling (or learning to call) the shots, but i 'm just not judging the accuracy. If I call some c's and d's during speed mode, no big thang as long as I see them. I obviously am not calling my shots in matches because I am not doing makeups on my mikes. I do tend to see my missed shots in dry fire. I guess in dry fire I am concentrating more. In matches I am just running my program.I'm headed to the range. Any good drills I should work on to help with shot calling? Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  12. Thanks! Is that a special bolt?Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  13. In dry fire I often see my misses. Not sure why I'm not seeing them in live fire. I'm guessing adrenaline and trying to push. When the buzzer goes off I am on auto piolet...almost like driving home from work and arriving at home without remembering the drive. Alpha mike...damnit. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  14. It's an online range diary. You can track practice, matches and gun maintenance / round count.Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  15. For powder it's where ever I can find it in stock. Because of hasmat fees it's best to buy powder and primers in bulk. I use Ramshot competition powder it's 140 for 8 pounds. That will last 12-18k rounds of 9/40. My last primer order was from midway. You can use gunbot to find deals. You can go in with other local reloaders and share the hasmat fee. Bullets I get from ibejiheads. I got my dillon through enos. Misc components like scales and calipers I got through midway or amazon. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  16. 1k 147 grain 9mm from freedom is about 240ish bucks shipped or .24/round. I can reload coated 9mm bullets for about .13/round. Watching out for deals on powder/primer/bullets through out the year and using range brass. It allows you to shoot more and tailor the load to your gun. Getting as close as possible to the minimum power factor you plan on shooting is a big benefit. If you want to shoot uspsa in 9mm you can shoot production at minor PF or open at minor PF. shooting 9mm minor in limited would be a disadvantage. So there are many positives to reloading as most 9mm rounds are much hotter than 130PF. I spent about 1k getting my dillon 550 and all accessories I wanted. It will pay for itself in about 6 months to a year of reloading. Using stoegers Dry fire and skills/drills will improve you. Ive gone from shooting mid pack to top 5 overall at local IDPA/3 gun matches and I am shooting top 10 at local USPSA matches (currently unclassified). Last month got third place in a tier 4 sanctioned IDPA match in ESP/SharpShooter. This is with only a few months of dry fire and little live fire other than matches. I have been shooting about 3-4 matches a month for the past 5 months. I have only been doing a strict dry fire program for about a month and a half, and its working. I tried airsoft for a little while but I am not sure its any better than just dry fire. The program I am working towards is 5-6 days a week dry fire for 30-60 minutes at a time and one day a week at the range. Ive been shooting so many matches lately that I have not done much range time practice. I am taking stoegers fundamentals in February and his skills/drills class in April next year.
  17. I ended up having to replace my xdm replica. Using a WE XDM. After another thousand rounds the slide take down lever wont stay in. Having to keep in on using tape. Need a 2011 replica. Any recommendations?
  18. 12/1/15 Worked on dryfire for about 45 minutes. Going over the fundamentals in the first section of the dry fire book. Finished with Hopkins drills.
  19. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk My second has the same issue as the first. Well thats not good news
  20. That is awesome. I hope to make M by the end of 2016. I have yet to be classified in USPSA currently classified SS in IDPA. Will make at least expert next IDPA classification and maybe master depending on the new changes.
  21. +- 20 FPS variance shot to shot???? That's not very good. This is mixed range brass, shooting USPSA/IDPA. Im not looking for 100 yard+ accuracy. I posted my results in the reloading forum and from the responses I received 20 FPS is fine and not unexpected. Im sure I could adjust the crimp and measure each charge to get better results but its of no value to me. I can shoot a 1/2" group at 7 yards. Good enough for me. 3.2 760 - 788 - 781 - 729 - 746 3.6 808 - 787 - 820 - 778 - 807 4.0 858 - 854 - 852 - 896 - 862 4.4 864 - 910 - 932 - 924 - 917 4.7 935 - 950 - 949 - 958 - 932 Link to post
  22. My buzzer started making funny sounds the other night, it said 40% charge left. I recharged it and it works fine now. Hopefully it keeps running! I put two pieces of packing tape over the speaker to use it in the house. Its nice and quiet. That's what mine was doing... except it was doing it at about 90% charge. So I'd literally have to charge it every other day to make it through the 3rd dry fire session. Hopefully they get this one right. The only complaints I have about it is the battery issue and the length of the beep, but then again, if I get to a point where a minimum .6 second par time is an issue, I'll gladly purchase a different unit. Ended up having to send mine in for repairSent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
