  1. im guessing there is no way for this to work with a single action gun? Do they make 2011/1911 replicas?
  2. I recently picked up a used SV sight tracker in .40. The previous owner said it had about 9k rounds through it....so like womens age, I usually double that. The guns tight and in great condition. I have a 2011 mutt that has an SV grip and STI frame/slide. This gun runs my MBX mags like a champ. I ran 3 mags through the SV in the limited time I had at the range on friday. I had two problems. One was with one of the MBX mags it would drop out of the pistol after 3-4 rounds fired...This same mag runs fine in my other pistol. 2 other MBX mags ran fine. Second problem I had was one round failed to go all the way into battery and stuck in the chamber.....these were gauged rounds on my hundo. I had to get a bit physical with it to get the round unstuck. The base of the bullet had most of the coating stripped off. I run a 1.21 OAL on my other 2011. This SV has the hybrid AET barrel. Are these barrels ok running .401 coated bullets? Looks like its going to want a shorter round but want to make sure I should be ok running coated with this barrel before trying to modify my load.
  3. This is good news. A portacool seems the cheapest way to cool my garage Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  4. I reload in my garage in West texas. It's HOT and dry here. Would using a water fan/evaporative cooler in my garage for when I'm loading be a bad idea? Not sure how it could effect powder. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  5. Jmorris I tried to PM you but it said you cant accept any new messages. What is the counter weight? Is it just a pipe or is it filled with something heavy?
  6. I have been working with a shooting coach that says the same thing about using the dot as a training tool. I have one carry pistol, that you cant put a dot on easily, and two 2011's. I dont buy non competition related guns and I dont have any extra guns to make a CO gun. Thats why I was thinking about converting my 9mm 2011 to open but I think if I start shooting open for fun and practice I may get hooked.
  7. I agree that shooting 3 gun will make you sloppy with the pistol. I'm considering selling my three gun kit and putting all my time and money in uspsa only. I currently have one 2011 limited gun and a 2011 in 9mm for 3gun. I want a backup limited gun but also want to try open. With the cost of steel grips does anyone use the same frame and grip and have multiple uppers/slides? I could use the same frame/grip for a 9mm open and backup 40. 8. I have been using the tape method for a while. It seems to work. Was hoping to find a solution without blocking my vision.
  9. Haha ya....not sure why I had "class" on my mind. It wont let me rename the topic i dont think :/
  10. I came from IDPA where I shot ESP. I shot ESP because its the most "gear intensive" class you can shoot in IDPA with regards to modifications and the types of guns you can use. When I left the IDPA world and started shooting USPSA I went straight to limited. I think I shot my ESP gun one time before buying a 2011 limited gun. Now I cant stop looking at open guns. I like the equipment part of shooting as much as the shooting itself. Three gun is about to break me. The go-faster open division in both USPSA and three gun looks like a lot of fun while at the same time looks very expensive. I have no interest in shooting a production type gun. I am especially interested to hear from people that shot division X and then moved to open. Did you stay there? What made you move and why do you like/dislike open vs your other division. I want to try open but am hesitant to spend the money and end up not liking the division. Locally its only older guys that shoot open. Most are shooting limited or production. I have eye dominance issues and thinking open might be "easier" for me in that regard since you dont really have a front sight to focus on (I have never shot or held an open gun). I have only shot rifles with dot's. Do any of you shoot both open and limited? Do you find it hard to go back and forth?
  11. My current issue is with a hard front sight focus I see two of the same target. So currently I am taping my left eye to overcome this....but I would definitely prefer to not have to do that.
  12. Lets talk more about these glasses! Ive been using tape over my left eye because of focus issues. I do wear contacts. So you are wearing glasses with blurred distance vision on your dominate eye? Does this not cause headaches or anything like that?
  13. With ammo that turns my 2011 into a single action revolver lol Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  14. Well I just got the Lee bulge buster setup and loaded rounds that won't gauge still won't gauge Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  15. I think the solution will definitely be full length case sizing now that I have the bulge situation resolved. I cant go out and buy a case pro right now so I will have to make do with a cheap single stage and a push through setup. A case pro would be nice to have though.
  16. My current setup is MBF funnel, redding dual ring sizer and redding comp seater. Im using a dillon crimp die. With this setup the bulge is gone or at least not visible like it was before. With that said I am still having a high failure rate. Now it seems to be near the bottom of the case. I guess the redding does not size down as far as the U die did. The press is running really smooth with this setup and the bullets sit in the case well using the MBF funnel. Guess Im going to have to get a single stage and a push through for this glocked brass.
  17. I do have a light now and am paying more attention. I am letting the cases sit in the feeder for 5 or 10 minutes before turning it on now to let them dry. Well see how that goes.Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  18. Ok so now I'm using the Mbf funnel...redding dual ring sizer and redding comp seater. There is zero buldge now...at least not noticeable like before. I'm still having a high failure rate but now it seems to be the bottom of the case. Looks like the redding sizer does not go down as far as the u die on glocked brass. The press runs smooth though and bullets sits in the case well and seem to be seating well. I loaded about 100...had a dozen that wouldn't gauge in the shock bottle and out of those 3 would not plunk in the barrel. Guess I need to look at a push through sizer for the glocked brass. 19. I'll buy that push through if you decide to don't want it. I just got my dual ring sizer and comp seater. I'll will hopefully get to try them out tomorrow. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
  20. Ive been on the same 8lb's of ramshot competition.
  21. I have loaded about 8k rounds of 40 on my 550, 4k 9m on the 550 and about 600 40 rounds now on my 1050. This last weekend at Cowtown I had 3 instances where the round fired but did not sound normal. It was much quieter than a major 40 should be and the spent case did not eject. It was quieter than 40 minor....almost making a puffing sound (best way I can describe it). It wasn't a squib as the round still cleared the barrel and hit the target. I took a mix of ammo with me some loaded from my 550 and some from my 1050 so I cant say what machine the round came from. But out of the thousands I have loaded in the past this is the first time this has happened. One person said it looked like a "light charge". Would this just be a situation where something may have happened and I didn't pull the handle all they way down...not paying good attention and then advanced the shell plate? I have been using hornaday one shot to lube the cases...it says it doesn't effect powder or primers?
  22. I had the same trouble on my 550 as my new 1050 with new dies. The redding die is on the way and hopefully fixes me up. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
