  1. I tested some clays in my STI edge the other day. They were right at 4.4 grains, 1.2 COAL, 180 grian Berry's. This was a major load with minor like recoil but the accuracy was poor compared to my other loads. However, 4.4 grains of Clays showed zero signs of high pressures. I know some people that have gone up to 4.7 grains before running into pressure issues.
  2. I just wanted to get a quick count of what you guys do during dryfire practice with your 2011's. Please explain why you do this and so forth. 1. Dryfire with no dummy rounds in mag or chamber 2. Dryfire with dummy round in chamber but not in mag 3. Dryfire with dummy rounds in mag but not in chamber 4. Dryfire with dummy rounds in both
  3. So basically with a 650, you need to be careful on the back stroke when seating the primer? And when you feel any extra resistance then stop and inspect the priming stage? Any other things that would cause detonations?
  4. I would like to know the same as I have a 650 and would like to know what to watch out for..,
  5. How does this happen? I need to know so I can avoid it if possible ...
  6. I personally don't hate the shortage but I think it is hilarious what people are paying for 22lr ammunition. There is no way people NEED 22 ammo that bad. Bricks of 22 come up on gunbot for around $100 and they are gone in minutes. That is absolutely crazy. Buy a 17 hmr and problem solved...then you double your shooting distance as well...and watch the critters blow up. How much longer do you all think this will go on for? It has been 13 months so far.... I am betting it will be another 13 months before we can walk into stores and find an abundance of 22 ammo. Anyways, this should make for a good conversation starter...
  7. I shoot an STI edge so my coal is a little longer. I shoot 4.6 grains of Titegroup, 180 grain Berry's and a coal of 1.20". This loads shoots very well for me and measures at 935fps at 50 degrees. I think 4.4 grains or 4.5 grains would be great at your shorter coal. I would load some of each and test them through the chrono. I don't have any experience with Bayou bullets, only Berry's, but I would assume they would shoot very close to the same.
  8. A local gun shop has a few in stock and I checked them out. These guns are truly awesome. I just cannot believe the trigger. It feels like my customized 2011 trigger. I will be owning one. The absolute perfect Production gun or IDPA ESP. I believe it is legal for ESP?
  9. Yes I have the comp kit with the trigger. It is about two pounds lighter than the carry model. I also have the Ram and it made the reset sharper, a more distinct "snap". I am not sure if I would go any lighter, especially with a carry gun.
  10. Good to know. I will dig into this a little deeper and see what I can find.Edit: I just found this on another forum http://forum.accurateshooter.com/index.php?topic=3812581.0 Seems accurate - if so, no hazmat.
  11. I have been shooting 3.8 grains and 147 grain Berry's FMJ. This put me at a power factor of 135-136. That was more than I wanted especially at the tested temperature of 40 degrees. I just reloaded my next batch at 3.6 grains and that was 130-132 power factor. M&p 5" and glock 34 all cycled these loads 100% and accuracy was great with 13 lb recoil springs.
  12. From what I have heard, primed brass has to be shipped the same way as primers. That is only what I have been told.... Probably like 6 years ago. Thus they would be subject to the hazmat fee...
  13. I have one on my m&p pro but my buddy has the carry model on his compact. I have compared both side by side. The trigger pretravel and over travel was the exact same. However, the trigger pull was a pound or two higher. Very crisp feel.
  14. That's exactly what I did. However neither match up even remotely close to the bullet contour.
  15. I had an issue recently when converting from 40 s&w RCBS dies to Dillon dies on my 650. I want to see what your thoughts were, if others have had the same issue and how it was resolved. Components: New Win Brass and Berry's 180 grain FMJ's Problem: Bullet seating creates a small bulge on one side of the case. (the bulge is significant because many rounds did not chamber check) Diagnosis: I tried many different things before actually diagnosing the problem as the seater plug. I checked the alignment of the main shaft, shell plate and among other things. I also tried to loosen the dies while the stroke was in maximum position and then retighten the die locking rings. None of which was the problem. Well I knew I had the so called "correct" seater plug in but upon inspection, with the seater plug outside of the die, I noticed the bullet does not fit well in the seater plug concavity. In fact the bullet slides around quite a lot, thus during bullet seating the case bulges out to one side of the case. Solution: I decided to take the semi-wad cutter side of the seater plug and reshape its concavity with my Dremel tool to fit the Berry's bullet. No bulge whatsoever and the accuracy improved considerably. Just curious if others have ran into this problem, how they solved it or if anyone, including Dillon, makes different shaped seater plugs?
  16. I've loaded about 40k of wsr for 5.56 With no problems.I said I wouldn't test the myth because I would rather have zero failures. I am not implying that it would ever happen because as we already know that every gun and load is completely different. However, the actual dimensions of the primer cup thickness clearly shows the difference. Now whether that difference is significant in your book is a different story, but it is in mine....
  17. Look at the load data on page 8 http://www.k8nd.com/documents/hl40sw.pdf This guy ran 5.3 grains at 950fps out of a 35.
  18. Check out these links. They have a bunch of titegroup load info. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17086 http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=186685&hl= http://www.k8nd.com/documents/hl40sw.pdf Published Speer - 1.120 COAL - 180grn TMJ/FN - Titegroup Start charge is 4.0 grains at 793 FPS. 19. I don't think I would want to test the myth. Remington 7 1/2's and CCI's have harder cups so they will not pierce as easily as others. From what I have heard, the WSR primers are the ones to stay away from for AR's.
  20. In regards to powder purchasing. I have quite a few local places that have been getting powder on a regular basis. Many of which are up to two hours away but I have friends or family that can purchase it for me until I get there. I have been able to buy a few 8lb jugs of w231 recently at powder valley. Most of it just comes down to luck and being persistent.
  21. I just did a 4 powder recoil test in my 40. Not a 45, but the information is relevant. I loaded up all loads to approx 170 PF. The powders were TiteGroup, VV N320, Clays and W231. I settled on TiteGroup a few weeks ago but I was bored and wanted to try them all at the same time. To my surprise, Titegroup, N320 and W231 all had similar recoil. There is no way I could feel a difference between those three powders. Clays on the other hand had a noticeably softer feel but my accuracy decreased tremendously. The recoil was softer, but NOT substantially softer. To each his own but I am sticking with TiteGroup and a backup of W231.
  22. I have purchased some VV N320 locally within the last week and it has a very recent production date. I also have a dealer that contacted a sales representative for VV and he said the company was sold but production is not changing. Powder Valley did have some in today and it was sold out in minutes.
  23. It sure is bitter cold here right now. -12 for a high.... windchill is in the -40 - -50. Yikes. Sure sounds like the decision would be between AZ, FL and TX. This is good info to get. Thanks!
  24. Sounds like you need to put a lighter recoil spring in. Run a 13# spring and the brass should cycle perfectly. You should not go any higher than 4.0 grains with that load in my opinion.
  25. Do you want the magwell to be IDPA legal? If so, Zev makes the slim specifically for that. Otherwise it is between the other Zev options or Dawson Ice.
