  1. Yes, it is therapuetic to me. I can go downstairs, clear my mind and just focus on running the press. Its very enjoyable if you focus on the process. It helps if you also enjoy the process. There are very few things in my life that are very repetitive, almost mindless. Running comes to mind, or driving. My life gets quite busy, so having time to just block out everything else for an hour or so is quite therapeutic in my opinion. But then again i focus on the process and enjoy it. I also never try to load ammo because i need it, i try to stay far enough ahead of my use so i never feel rushed to make 300 rounds for tomorrows match or practice. I do not listen to music or audiobooks while loading. I like to hear all the sounds of the machine. Listening to each case drop. The primers popping out. The feel when you push the handle forward to seat a primer. There really is a lot going on when reloading, but you can get into a hyper-aware state that I find relaxing.
  2. I use 200gr SWC from Ibejiheads witn N320. Very accurate, fast, and clean. Have loaded and shot tens of thousands and could not be more pleased with them. Plus you can pick different colors, but i am partial to the "happy" blue ones.
  3. I have held the STIs but have not shot one. Have heard good things though.
  4. Didn't think you were. 40 is nice. I have shot it a bit. Also have the set up for my Dillon. Maybe one day I will go back there, but not yet. My only issue with a custom gun is the price. While I have the money, I hate spending that much. I like to get something nice, that can be something great with some tweaks. Then I can buy two for the price of a custom. One for practice, one for matches. And I always have a backup. Is a custom really worth twice the price? I don't think it gives me twice the gun. But I could be wrong.
  5. I also found the mag release to be too small for me too. Will have to look into options for a replacement. Which is good, cause I do like to tinker with things. The Wilson Oversized Magazine release Stainless is my favorite. $39.00 at Shooters Conection and that's the whole thing, not just a button. May have to do some slight fitting. Here's one on my Trojan. Doesn't get in the way shooting weak hand either. That is a big mag release button. I might have to look into that one. For $39 bucks, even if it's too big I am not out a lot. Thanks.
  6. Rob, I don't shoot limited with .40. I have shot L10, but with my.45 and 10 round mags. Will probably stay with .45 for a while. I am all set up for it, I like the feel of the gun with my current loads, and for some reason I just like that caliber. To serve me better, I mean a better gun. My 2 S&w1911s are more than accurate enough. I shoot on a 10x12 inch steel plate at 50 yards and can hit it without problems. Usually one shot from a draw in 1.40 seconds consistently. They both shoot fast but have a lot of rounds through them. I picked them up used from a friend and got the matching one from his brother. I have had more than a few feed issues and a few jams. I have worked out most of those problems so a failure is now quite rare. The slides have a bit of slop, not extreme, but noticeable. Although it does not seem to effecting the accuracy or operation. I think I just want a new gun. Something tight and sexy. Accurate and fast. No, I probably do not NEED a new gun, but I want one. My shooting is improving. I do not know if I am beyond the level of my two guns, probably not, but why not get something new that continues to keep me motivated. Is there anything better than the feel of a really nice new gun?
  7. Thats why I shoot the 200gr SWC from Ibejiheads. They leave a big, round hole on the target. I went and handled one yesterday, the gun feels really nice. The front sights were good too. I like the front a bit narrower to let in lots of light, it helps me find the target/aimpoint faster. but personal preference... The slide felt good and seemed very tight. The trigger was nice. It seems to be a great gun. Cant wait for mine to arrive so I can shoot it. The only negatives I found, and its a personal thing, was the ambi safety was quite small. I like a larger one because I rest my thumb on it. It gives me a solid feel and better grip, plus I can't accidentally knock the safety on like I could if I did not ride it with my thumb. I also found the mag release to be too small for me too. Will have to look into options for a replacement. Which is good, cause I do like to tinker with things.
  8. I have been shooting for just over 2 years. I shoot as many matches as possible, but usually average 2 a month. Dry fire is sporadic. I might not do it for weeks at a time then start doing it once or twice a day for a month or longer. I get at least one practice session a week in. Usually around 300 rounds. In the spring I probably shoot about a thousand rounds a week in practice. My practice sessions are pretty structured. I will work on 2-4 goals each session. Sometimes they are speed related, sometimes accuracy related. Sometimes both. I shot production for 14 months and made A on my 1 year anniversary. Then I switched to SS and would have made Master on my 2 year anniversary but they did not use three classifiers because they were deemed invalid and too high. I spoke with USPSA and they validated them, but some were not used anyway. But I had another couple of 95% and another 100% so I made it at 2 years 1 month. I am focusing hard on Master for production and GM for SS right now. Not too far from either of those goals. I also have a pretty good physical training process I follow. That has really helped especially with my movement. I am much faster and more explosive than I was before. Not yet where I want to be, but making gains each week.
  9. I copied and pasted from a handful of messages, but he said, "The gun is fit very well, has all the right parts already installed to compete with, and just works. It's equipped with EGW sear and disconnector, Koenig hammer, medium flat trigger, Dawson F/O front sight, adjustable bomar style rear sight, Dawson ICE magwell, and ambi thumb safety. Only thing I added to mine was a full length guide rod (personal preference only), and an Ed Brown extended mag release (again personal preference). You'd have a hard time being disappointed I believe. No issues with mag tuning. I'm running a 45 so the gun just runs. I use Wilson ETM mags. I do use the Dawson no gap insert on the ICE magwell, so I use the Dawson no gap mag base pads as well. It's an awesome setup. " I will also use the full length guide rod and extended mag release. Not switching to no gap magwell because i already have a stack of mags that work in the regular (gap) ICE magwells. I have never had an issue with those mags/magwell, so why change? I also spoke with another friend that has one of these Max 1911s. He is a 1911 guy. He says it is a great SS gun and I will love it. Cant wait for it to arrive.
  10. Ok, ordered a Sig Max 1911. It came highly recommended by a shooter that obviously knows how to shoot one. I will drop back in and update this as soon as I can get a few thousand rounds through it. Thanks.
  11. Steve, don't want to upgrade the ones I have. While they are both good guns, I want something a bit better.
  12. I am totally with you. I watched the few stages she shot, and she did exceptionally well. Then I saw the news on your site. I wonder if she used her own gun to re-chrono? Hope it was just an equipment error on the chrono stage. She was visibly upset after failing the chrono as I watched her shoot the next two stages. I heard a rumor of why but it's not my place to say what may or may not be the truth. Not equipment error. I chrono'd shortly after and was told she thought she was shooting 147gr but when they weighed them it was 115gr. I think they chrono'd at a PF of 110. Not sure who loads her ammo or if she does it herself, but you would think she would chrono before a big match. I do. And the chronos at Pasa Park read fast. They always come in about 5PF higher than the two chronos I use.
  13. I currently have 2 S&W 1911s in .45 that I use for practice and matches in USPSA SS. They are basically stock except for fiber sights, different springs, grips, and a nicer magwell. I am thinking that i want to upgrade to another .45 that may serve me a bit better. I am thinking about getting two of them, one for practice and as a back-up and the other for shooting matches. Something under 2.5k a piece would be nice, but I might also do a single custom gun instead. I am quite comfortable customizing a stock gun, so getting a good factory pistol that just needs some polishing/modifying etc is not a problem. I am looking for some recommendations. I would really like to hear from people that shoot the gun the are recommending, and why it is a great gun. The "why" is kind of important to me. I do like shooting .45. There is something very enjoyable about the big, clean holes a 200gr SWC leaves in a target. So unless there is some compelling reason to switch to a .40 that you can convince me of (which is possible) I would like to keep the discussion on .45. thanks. ps:I did use the search feature, and after a lot of reading did not find exactly what I was looking for.
  14. The shepards hooks will work fine. One hook will easily hold the 10 inch steel. They do get beat up and the hooks will only last a season as they get nicked and gouged at the spot where they hang and eventually break. I have used them many times.
  15. Ontelaunee puts on one of the nicest matches around. I highly recommend it.
  16. I cut plates out of AR400 last year. Use them at least once a week, but usually multiple times a week. Shooting 9mm up .45 and there is not a single mark on them. Rifle might be different, but for pistols AR400 seems perfect.
  17. I use them regularly. 9mm RN and .45 SWC. They work great, shoot very accurately, and are fast, so I use less powder to make power factor. The newest color is brown.
  18. Who signed for it? Powder delivery needs a signature.
  19. My last batch of LET targets are horrible. I have excellent eyesight and cannot see the perfs up close unless they are in bright sunlight. A total waste of money.
  20. I use 4.0 gr of N320 with a 125gr Ibejihead out of a cz and I get 131pf. But then again a coated bullet shoots much faster than a jacketed bullet, at least in my tests.

  22. Would i be limited to 10 arrows in my quiver?
  23. I am serious, but I never said "reloading is the most difficult aspect of the game" I said it adds to the skill level.I like Production because it requires more skill and practice to be really good at. Can't run giant mags, so you have to practice reloads. Can't get by with sloppy shots like you can with major power factor so you have to be accurate. No giant magwells so reloads have to be exact. No red dots so you have to use the front sight. But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong. Then clearly in your eye's revolover shooters are the most skilled. We do the most reloads, and our reloads are much harder than yours. Magwell, what's that? And now we've all been forced into minor scoring. Only 8 shots, for 8 shot array's. Don't miss. Iron sights, and long heavy triggers. What could take more skill? It's good to hear from a pistol shooter who thinks as highly of revolver shooters as you do. Thank you. Haha. I try not to ever think about revolver shooters. They are like the squeege guys in NYC, I try not to make eye contact or they will come over. But I must say, I have seen a few very impressive revolver shooters.
