  1. I tried the rear dove tail sight mount first and didnt care for it. I now use the SJC mounts on the frames and love it. The DOT moved too much for me after each shot was fired. I have a C-More STS small sight on my G17L Open that I use for 3 gun and steel challenge, and a full size C-More on my G17 open major gun. The SJC mounts were pretty easy to install and have been rock solid. The only drawback with using the SJC mount and a full size C-more is the lowering of the ejection port for reliability. That work can be done for less than $50.00 by a local gun smith.
  2. A longer sight radius is always helpful. I would buy the long slide and send it to Carver for some lightening. I love my G17l.

I use a 124 MG JHPS with 6.8 grains of auto comp. OAL is 1.150. My 10 port SJC comp works great on my KKM barrel.. Flat, accurate, and easy to keep clean. Power factor around 173.....
  4. I would lean towards the G34 if you plan on shooting a fair amount of steel challenge and 3 gun. You can shoot that platform in USPSA production, IDPA, and steel and 3 gun. The G35 in my opinion is not a good choice for steel challenge or 3 gun. Either rig will suit your needs.
  5. I ended up doing just what max power did. I used a small bit then a unibit that is stepped. I did heat them after but it didn't seem to help secure them very well. You will not want to remove the mount and shoot the gun. The bushings can fall out without the support of the mount.
  6. I second the idea of sending the gun off to Bobby. I have a lone wolf slide on my Open Gun that Bobby built and he definately lowered the ejection port. In my experience comps do not like factory loads. You may not have enough gas to properly eject the shell......

I have never experienced any fireballs or hot powder out of my Storm Lake 4 port. I shot it today in a local match instead of running my major glock. It felt like a .22 It's so fast on doubles.

I shoot a G17L with storm lake 4 port barrel with minor loads for steel challenge and 3 gun. I have shot my major loads thru it and its pretty rough compared to a compensated barrel. I have shot a few open guns with a sideways mounted red dot co witnessed with their iron sights. I liked it on really close targets and you never have trouble losing your dot.

I agree with Mike, the 17 makes a better all around Open Gun.

I use 6.8 grains of auto comp for my major loads. MG 124 JHP , OAL 1.150, federal match small pistol primers. G17 open with a KKM barrel. 1365-1370fps. Shoots flat with my 10 port sjc comp. 13 pound spring. Minor loads 5.2 grains auto comp, same components, 10 pound spring.
  11. I have a G35 built by Carver. Great Limted platform. Have fun with yours!!!

Yes, The mag is the SJC custom big stick. I dont like the look of the Taylor Freelance. I have tried the slide mounted rear Red Dot mount and hated it. Switched to the SJC frame mounts on both of my open guns and love them. As far as the 34 for an open gun I can't see why not. I have a 17L open gun and love the long barrell. Some people say the action on the 17 is faster hence using it over the 34. I use my 17L for matches where they dont score major or minor. Its a small Thursday night match here in Houston. I specifically built that gun for 3 gun open and steel challenge. I dont feel its any slower or harder to swing on targets.

Here is my G17 Open gun. I had Bobby Carver build the slide for me. 10 port SJC comp, KKM barrell, and the usual striker and spring changes. I love the SJC big stick magazines. I use Dawson extensions on my other ones. I installed the SJC mount, trigger, and other parts in my lower. I love the edge trigger from glocktrigger. I have 2 of them. One in my G17 Open, the other in my G17L Open built to shoot minor power factor in 3 gun and steel challenge.
  15. I have shot the G34 back to back with the XDM525. I like my Glocks better.
  16. I have KKM barrells and Storm Lake in 2 different Open guns. In my opinion no difference between the 2 in accuracy. In my G35 the KKM barrell has an extremely tight fitting chamber and I have had some isues with DC and Atlantic Arms ammo in that barrell. I posted this in another thread.
  17. I heard that reaming the chamber similar to a 1911 barrel is a bad idea. Its too close in the force cone where the rifling starts? I shoot USPSA and normally will shoot just one major load consistently out of it.
  18. Has anyone had issues with their KKM barrells specifically very tight chambers?
