  1. Hello from another Tampa Bay member. Have you ever been to the Wyoming Antelope Club range that Eric mentioned above? It's a really nice range so if you haven't been there you might want to check it out.
  2. Well, two years later here's the picture of my newly acquired Witness Match in .40S&W that I promised to post in my intro in the New Members section. It's my first pistol from EAA. When I first saw it at the gun counter I was initially attracted to it by its black on silver finish. I'm not a big fan of shiny guns but I really liked how this one was done. As soon as I got back home I started doing some internet searches on them and noticed that EAA sold a nice array of conversion sets for them. The hook was fully set after a phone call to EAA confirmed that the 6 inch 10mm Hunter slide would drop right in to this frame. Though I was kind of bummed that they wouldn't sell the 10mm slide with a 9mm barrel (want to set it up for 9x25 Dillon). Oh well, can't have it all I guess. Initially I did the paperwork for two EAA pistols, one in 9mm and this one. But while I was waiting the required 3 days before I could pick them up I did some more searching of the internet and could not find anyone that would custom make a 7.62x25 Tokarev conversion barrel for the Witness. So I dropped the 9mm version (replaced it with a Para-USA Expert, a 1911 clone) but kept this one since I was still interested in the 10mm/9x25Dillon conversion. I also have a few other pistols and have some pics of them on my web site at the link below in case anyone is interested in seeing some of my other stuff. http://www.dodge-semis.com/Firearms/ Anyhow, hope you guys enjoy the pics.
  3. I spied on other countries (had a TS/SBI security clearance). When I went in I initially wanted to work on aircraft electronics but my hearing wasn't good enough. So I was medically disqualified from all flightline related jobs. Couldn't even do motorpool. But during bootcamp I was offered a job that was a trip and a half. It didn't even have an AFSC number. The tech school was 50 weeks long at Lowry AFB in Denver (I was there from March '88 to February '89). The funny part is in the end I did get to work with aircraft in a way. We had surveillance equipment mounted on some C135 weather birds and U2 spy planes and I was assigned flightline access on my security badge. The outdoor range that's near the base (http://wyomingantelopeclub.org/) has some action shooting events every now and then. This summer I plan on checking out what they do and see if they have any novice classes. Thanks.
  4. First off, hello from another newbie to the forum. I've seen several of your YouTube videos over the last couple of months and as well as they were put together I'm surprised to hear that it's just a hobby for you. For something that's just a hobby they are rather top notch and were a joy to watch. Thank you for sharing them. As far as Blackhawk helicopters I think they are great, especially after they replaced the Hueys with them. In the early to mid 90's I was assigned to an Air Force detachment in the interior of Alaska and we chartered Army helicopters out of Ft. Wainwright to get to some of our remote sites above the Arctic Circle. When I first got there the Army had Hueys at Wainwright but a couple of years later they switched to Blackhawks. Talk about night and day difference. Being a tech geek I loved the array of digital controls on the Blackhawk. Plus they didn't have the constant problem of the gearbox chip indicator alarm going off all so often. Anyhow, while I was active duty during Desert Shield/Storm I was never deployed to the region, even though I went before my Commander and volunteered. So this ex-zoomie sends a big salute in your direction for your service. If you're ever in the central gulfcoast area of Florida let me know and I will treat you to a few rounds of the beverage of your choice.
  5. No, I'm more of a recreational shooter. I've never been able to hold any firearm steady enough to shoot with any real accuracy. Plus my eyesight is far from perfect.
  6. As the header says I'm about to buy my first Witness Match pistol in a few days. Okay, my first 2 Witness pistols actually. I'm interested in both the .38 Super/9x23 and 10mm/9x25 Dillon and have been looking for a platform that I could set up for those cartridges. I've known of the EAA Witness line of handguns for a while now but never really paid any attention to them. That changed a couple of days ago. I was at the BX on base Saturday afternoon and stopped by the gun counter to see if they had anything in 10mm. Unfortunately they mostly had a bunch of pistols in 9mm and 45ACP. Initially I started to look at a couple of 45's, a Desert Eagle 1911 and a Para 1911 Expert. But then I spotted a Witness Match in .40S&W. That was when I remembered reading about how the newer ones could easily be converted to 10mm. I liked the two tone finish. To add insult to injury I saw they had the same thing in 9mm, which I thought had potential for being converted to .38 Super or 9x23. That's when my dilemma began. Do I go with the .40S&W and satisfy my desire for 10mm and 9x25 Dillon or do I go with the 9mm so I can do a .38 Super or 9x23 conversion (and maybe even a 7.62x25 conversion, if possible)? After about 5 minutes I threw in the towel and solved the problem by buying both. I did the background check at the time and have to wait till Thursday to pick them up due to Florida's three day wait requirement. In the next week or two I plan on ordering the slide assembly from a 10mm Hunter. Next will be a .38 Super barrel that I will have modified for 9x25 Dillon. Already have a box loaded ammo for it along with 100 rounds of reloadable brass (both from DoubleTap) And that brings me to my first question. I have seen some of the companies that produce custom barrels for the Witness series of handguns but they were the usual 9mm/38Super/.357Sig/10mm barrels. I have a feeling this will be a no but there's no harm in asking just in case. Does anyone know of a barrel company that makes Witness barrels that chamber 7.62x25 Tokarev? Or even a company that will machine a barrel from a customer supplied barrel blank that I could get chambered by someone with the proper reamer? Anyhow, looking forward to reading more from the forum as I try to learn more about my latest purchase.
  7. Hello everyone, I'm in the process of buying a couple of EAA Witness pistols and have been doing a lot of internet searches over the last few days looking for info about them. Many of the posts I've come across were posted on this forum. So I thought I would register here and join in on the fun. I've been interested in a wide range of firearms since I first was first able to go to the shooting range in the early 80's (the old outdoor Tampa range that was over near Oldsmar). The bug got worse when I was stationed in Alaska in the early to mid 90's. When I went up there I didn't have a single gun, but by the time the Air Force PCS'd me back to the lower 48 four and a half years later I had 12 of them. Over the last 20 years I have owned everything from Russian TT33's in 7.62x25, a .44 Magnum Desert Eagle, lever action pistols and rifles, a few revolvers, SKS's, and a MAK90. I'm currently trying to build my own AK-47 but in a wildcat cartridge that's based on 10mm Magnum brass. Anyhow, later this evening I will be posting a message about the two EAA pistols I'm buying in the proper section for them. Well, that's my intro. Thanks everyone.
