Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'm thinking you're right about it being dirty. I'm going to load up to 7.2gn in .2 gn increments to see if I can get it to burn more completely under a little more pressure. Hodgdon lists 7.4 as max load for Berrys plated 180, so it should be no problem with the jacketed Zeros. If it's not too snappy on the recoil and I can get it to burn completely, I'll load up the rest and then start trying som different powders. Thanks again. BTW, I also live in Cruces.
  2. Long time lurker, first post. I've been loading .40 s&w for awhile and have searched most reloading manuals, forums and google looking for similar results to what I am seeing. Hs-6 is loaded at 6.7 gns under a 180gn Zero TCFM and I'm getting unburned powder residue in the barrel. Seating depth is 1.13 and I'm crimping to .422. WSP primers. Hodgdon and Hornaday have differing load parameters and I have gone with the Hodgdon load data. With that said, the max load from hodgdon is 6.9 gns. I have not loaded past this and before I do, I'd like some input from some more experienced hand loaders or someone who has loaded hs-6 for awhile. I'm using hs-6 because it's readily available locally. Would this load be considered a mild, mid or hot load, seeing that it is .2 away from Hodgdon max load of 6.9gn? Waiting on a chrono before I exceed the Hodgdon posted max. Just a lot of difference between hornady and Hodgdon. Just want to keep it safe. Thanks, in advance for your thoughts!!
