Long time lurker, first post.
I've been loading .40 s&w for awhile and have searched most reloading manuals, forums and google looking for similar results to what I am seeing. Hs-6 is loaded at 6.7 gns under a 180gn Zero TCFM and I'm getting unburned powder residue in the barrel. Seating depth is 1.13 and I'm crimping to .422. WSP primers.
Hodgdon and Hornaday have differing load parameters and I have gone with the Hodgdon load data. With that said, the max load from hodgdon is 6.9 gns. I have not loaded past this and before I do, I'd like some input from some more experienced hand loaders or someone who has loaded hs-6 for awhile. I'm using hs-6 because it's readily available locally.
Would this load be considered a mild, mid or hot load, seeing that it is .2 away from Hodgdon max load of 6.9gn?
Waiting on a chrono before I exceed the Hodgdon posted max.
Just a lot of difference between hornady and Hodgdon. Just want to keep it safe.
Thanks, in advance for your thoughts!!
