It clips on to the crimp die just above the die lock nut with the adjustable rod down thru the center. I have two of them for my 550.

I installed one of those in one of my powder bars and it used the green bearing retainer Loctite. The only way I know to remove it would be using heat, hi heat, to loosen the Loctite. Which will ruin the micrometer adjuster. For myself, if I had an issue with the micrometer I would just get a new powder from Dillon. Hope this helps you out. Randy

I do without any problem. I just run them back through the size decap die real slowly. Never had one go off.

I have had mine for 4yrs now and I really like it. I only load handgun calibers with my 550 ( 9mm, 38/357, 38 super, 45acp, 44mag, and 45 colt). After cleaning brass I run my brass thru the press to resize and deprime my cases then reload as needed. I do it this way because of the primer slide gets dirty from primer residue and sticks from time to time when reloading after tumbling brass. This way I clean the primer system before loading up my ammo and the primer system pretty much feeds flawlessly for me. I don't shoot competively anymore so I have the time to do it this way.

That is a short ceiling height. My bench is 36in tall and the 550 w/ casefeeder is 75in over all from floor to top of feeder. But my machine is mounted to 6in riser.

On my 550 w/case feeder, I cut 3in off mount tube and feed tube.

I have a 550 w/case feeder and I would have this problem from time to time loading 9mm. Then I beefed up my bench and got the case feeder and press movement totally eliminated and haven't any problems since. Don't know if this could be your issue, but it made all the difference for me.

I really like the casefeeder on my 550b. I've had it for 4yrs now and it has work great for me. I load 9mm, 38 super, 38 spec/357 mag, 45 acp, 45 colt, and 44 mag with mine. And can crank 700-800 rds an hour of each of those rounds mentioned with ease. That is of course as long as I have the primer tubes ready and powder to refill powder measure handy. The 650 is a great machine, but for me the auto index just isn't for me.

I have one my 550 and I absolutely love it! It helps me catch any potential double charges by feeding a second case into station one if I happen to pull the handle without rotating the shell plate. I load 9mm, 38 super, 38 spl, 357 mag, 45 acp, 44 spl, 44 mag and 45 colt with mine. The only real issue I ever had with it was that the yellow case feed adapter for 44spl,mag and 45 colt would not feed cases into the slide at all no matter what I tried, so out of frustration, I tried the orange adapter for 338/357 and it has worked perfectly! I myself prefer the 550 over the 650. The 650 is a great machine as well, it just prefer the manual indexing.

That's strange, Dillon is who told me to adjust the tab. I guess two different guys = two different opinions.

To the best of my knowledge they are the same. At least that is what I have told.

I have a 550 w/ case feeder and used to have this exact same issue w/ 9mm and 38 super. It stopped occuring when I adjusted / closed off the opening w/ the metal tad to where only one opening would show thru the area where the case drops thru. Since I have done that I don't have that problem no matter how many cases I put in feeder. That may help for you.

I installed this item and had nothing but problems with it. It made the primer slide so jerky that the primers would bounce out before reaching the shell plate. It was with all new primer slides and primer housings. Bottom line I really think it is a very good product! My machine just didn't seem to like it.

^^^THIS!^^^ That is what that metal tab is for. I had the same problem with my 550 case feeder until I adjusted the metal tab to only let one opening drop a case. Now it will drop .380 thru 45 colt perfectly.

Once you go Blue you'll wish you had two!

Welcome from Prescott Valley. I've had my 550 for 20 yrs, you will really like it.

The tool head covers are listed in the Blue Press, they are called Quick - Change Cover for use with powder measure. The part # is L05-11143.

If you want the Dillon cover, the cover for the 650 will work for the 550 w/ case feeder. That's a 550 w/ case feeder and 650 cover in my avatar pic.

82Blackbird, I wasn't sure if if that would work or not. But I think you are on to something w/ the cardboard insert, maybe a small narrow funnel made of clear thin plastic insert will help to give the case a straight shot down the tube. I am really liking the sound of your results. I think I will right down the parts you listed and get them ordered for mine in near future. I have been just reaching in from the left side setting the 380 case 1 at a time on the platform and letting the stock plunger push the case into the shell plate. It's a slow process but was still better than than loading on a single press. Would you happen to have the part # for the plunger?

Can you close off/adjust the plate at the hole where the cases drop out of the feeder plate? I had to do that to prevent clogging w/ 9mm.

82Blackbird, keep us informed of your progress,please. I would be very interested in what come with. With me having a 3 yr old and a 14 month old here at home it's been tough to do extra curricclar things. aug

I havn't as of yet, but , I have been thinking about getting another plunger and seeing if one could mill a slope to it, to where it would drop a case onto the station 1 locator and then the slope on the plunger would raise the cases in the feed tube to let the plunger push the case on into the shell plate. Sorry for thinking out loud.
