Hey, I load 9 Major on my Dillon 1050 (+ Mr Bulletfeeder) and I'm extremely satisified with this machine! I plan to load my 9 Minor too, with the same primer and bullets. Thought I could use a Redding Micrometer Seating Die and only change the upper portion of the powder measure (2 Allen screws). I think I would need a Micrometer Crimp Die too? How would you realize this?

The region (in Austria) is famous for their granite, hence the stone base.

I think this is one of the main problems. I don't shoot USPSA, but a good amount of IPSC in Europe. Couldn't understand why people would be so upset about PCC here on Benos (other than maybe keeping the spirit of a handgun sport). Until I learned about the HOA concept in the US. How can HOA be anything other than information or a fun fact? Shooting (for example) Classic vs. Open for money? But no offense, think PCC in pistol matches is an extremely interesting discussion.

I recently bought a RRA Upper and outfitted it with a Holosun HS403GL. Some buddys told me they had problems with the harder recoil on a blowback and "cheaper" red dots. Do you think this will be a problem?

As sarge explained correctly, yes, the Lee Factory Crimp Die. Don't know if it is called a "post size die" in the US.

I use the 9 mm 20-hole version and it is TIGHT! It even seems tighter than the 4-hole, different caliber version. I'm not the most experienced hand loader (5 years), but couldn't get it to like my rounds with Hornady seat + crimp die . Tried a Lee FCD die. Always seemed to like some brass brands more than other (best was Geco). Now I use a Redding seating die, followed by a Hornady taper crimp die. Thats my best setup so far, almost every round goes full in. I wet tumble my brass and clean the gauge regularly with brake cleaner and Q-tips (collects some case lube from inspecting during loading).

Checked the crimp, looks good (the faint line you describe). Measured 0.378". Dumped the FCD a few months ago in favor of a normal Hornady taper crimp die. Gives me more consistency with v0 and the Double Alpha case gauge.

Thanks to all for the good suggestions! @ Southpaw: I'm using a Hornady sizing die. Think I found the problem on the weekend, way too much case flare. Reduced it significantly, no more setback when chambering a few times.

I am loading 9 mm with a 124 gr round nose bullet with a taper crimp. To check the finished rounds for quality, I did the plunk test, measured OAL and bumped one round, bullet first a few times on the table. No changes in OAL. If I press the round really hard with my hand on the table, the bullet sets back about 0.07 with each try. Can't do this with factory ammunition. Is this normal?

Hey, hope this topic suits in this section. When I chrono my 9 Major loads, I usually have a max. spread (lowest to highest) of 20 feet/s. But in some groups (I measure 7 rounds) is a "flyer", differing 30 f/s from the lowest. 9.9 gr Accurate #7, Fiocci SP, OAL 1.18". In what ranges your results are?

Hi, in a few weeks I shoot my first Steel Challenge competition (not many here in Austria). I plan to shoot with my full size STI Open gun, which I use for IPSC. Normally I load 9.9 gr Lovex 37.1 aka AA#7, with a 123 gr bullet, this gives me ~165 factor. Should I use this load or load for a lower factor? If yes, where would be a good starting point for the powder charge? Thanks for your help!

How dies he know which shot is which hit? Really gold shot calling and remembering?

What is your procedure if your gun has to be completely unloaded at the start. I use a Baikal MP153, lifter is locked if gun is decocked.

Hey mlmiller1, it isn't so hard to get a gun in Austria (for european standards). You need a background check, short safety course and psycho test (only background check of you are LEO/MIL/Hunter). Only downside is, we are restricted to AUG, AR and SIG for semi auto rifles.

OAL is pretty common in my part of Austria (for 2011 style guns), got the first hints for 9 Major from buddies. Tried pushing the rounds against the bench with no impact on OAL.

Hello, I have about 4 years experience loading 9 minor and 45 ACP. Got my Open (STI based custom, 5 port comp, no holes, 9 Major) and working up a load with my CED M2. Currently I'm loading 7,6 gr 3N37 under 123 gr LOS bullet, CCI SP, OAL 1.18 - puts me in the 164 PF range. I would be interested, can a round with a reasonable PF (165 - 175) and a "recommended" powder for 9 Major have overpressure? Why is it so important to "work up" a load - would the v0 increase drastically with overpressure or could only the warning signs on the case (Primer,split, ...) be seen? Thank you!
