Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. This is what I have decided to do..... I think Buy a slide and barrel from SV and have them do the fitting required on the barrel, slide and the frame cut for the ramp. From here I am pretty sure that I can put it together (I hope anyway!) This should have me up and running in a couple months and then I can decide what my next build will be. Here is what I am looking at so far. 5" Duotone with Stainless grip and frame. I am not totally decided on the dustcover length or the standard stirrup or butler cut. I think after shooting a little bit it will be an easier decision for me. Thanks for all the help
  2. Thanks again Roy. I can already see that you have talked me into a complete new build not using my frame or grip. I guess I will need to build something on what I have. What is the weight of yours? I would be doing a 5" with the short dustcover so it wouldn't be quite the same, but it will give me an idea of with the stainless frame.
  3. Roy, Why the stainless grip? The strength can't make much of a difference in the grip area. Is the main purpose to add weight? I saw the skulls while looking at some pictures, they are pretty cool.
  4. I thought I was confused before I came to this forum....
  5. Thanks guys for all your help. Those of you that have or have used the signature grip, how does it compare with the polymer grip? I thought about getting it built using one of their new grips and just using my frame and possibly adding one of the new grips in the future. If I decide to go with the signature grip it would probably make more sense for me to just sell what I have and start from fresh with a complete build.
  6. I thought about that too. Is there a difference between the old frames and the frames that they are using now? I have the plastic grip but I could change that out later without much hassle. I also thought about just using the frame for the build and having a backup grip and trigger ready to go.
  7. I think that I have had a picture of your gun as a background on my computer for a couple weeks now. Very nice. Thanks
  8. I can just add to my comments "Like Roy's" They are beautiful guns. Got any pics of yours?
  9. If it send it to Brandon, the whole gun would be an SV and built by them which I would think would probably be the best. It does have the plastic grip but I could change that out later if I really wanted to. At first I thought about just buying all the parts from them and having someone else put it together for me. I just feel that if I go that route I might regret it later. I probably will just sell the .45 frame and slide.
  10. I have talked with Brandon and he has been great with all my questions and build sheets that I have had. I think that I have decided to go with a 5" Duotone in .40. Just wanted some additional opinions first I knew this would be a good forum, you are already offering to take stuff off my hands that i don't need.
  11. I originally thought that I would build it as a .45 to use as a limited gun. I load for .40 and that seems to be the way to go because of mag capacity.
  12. OK guys, don't beat me up to bad on this as it is my first post. I recently picked up a stainless SVI frame kit from a local gun shop. It is old but was never built. It has the plastic grip and it came with a new Les Baer .45 slide and a new Bar Sto .45 barrel. I am pretty sure that I want to send the frame back to SV to have them build it. Should I sell the barrel and slide or should I build another pistol. Hi cap or standard? I have a Para p-16 so I would be set with the .40's. I have been reading about competitions but have never shot one.
  13. I am just at the south side of the Ocala National Forest. I recently joined the Eustis gun club but maybe I will have to check out the one in Orlando for competitions. Thanks
  14. I have been looking through the forum for a little while and decided it was time to sign up. I don't shoot anywhere near as much as I would like but maybe that will change soon. I have been around guns my whole life and just recently built my first AR15 and then my second.... Now I am very interested in learning about shooting handgun competitions and possibly building a 1911. I am not sure which way to go with that yet but it will come. I am looking forward to the knowledge.
