  1. I really like my Comp Tec for my 5.25 as shown in my profile picture. Great customer service too. I actually own three Com Tec holsters. Two are paddles used for my Glock 23 and Springfield 3.8 Compact for CCW carry. Before a match I spray the inside of the holster with silicon spray which make for a really slick draw.
  2. I did my ZDM 5.25 (as shown in my profile picture) myself using Springer Precision components. A bit harder to disassemble and reassemble than a Glock but not all that hard, especially thanks to You Tube. I also did some polishing on the sear and other parts. Took it from over 5lbs to a tad over 3lbs. Only problem is it now only likes Federal primers. Springer precision tells you this in their instructions.
  3. The M16 started out life as a .223. NATO determined that the .223 was too lethal. So they changed the bullet design to reduce the tumbling effect upon impact that the round was designed to do. They also changed the power and charge. Hence the round was designated as the 5.56 NATO. In my humble opinion this change and NATO have put our troops in harm’s way with these changes.
  4. For what it's worth. I was one of the R.O.'s at last years handgun nationals. R.O.'s are allowed to pick up brass at days end. I was rather surprised to find that more of the open gun brass I picked up was 38 Super Comp. Here's another fact. Even though 9mm is initially less expensive, it cannot be reloaded nearly as many times as 38 S.C. due to the very high pressures. Some of the R.O.'s were telling me they wouldn't pick up 9mm open gun brass for the same reason.
  5. I have shot 38 super bullets through my Springfield 5.25 without issue. In reality nearly all the bullets I have mic'd were at most .0007" larger in diameter than a 9mm. Since I also shoot 38 super this makes bullet buying a little easier. I might suggest starting your loads on the low side and work your way up using a crono.
  6. Welcome from another retired person! However I have benn shooting for a long time. I mostly shoot USPSA in open, limited, single stack and production divisions. Need any help, their are plenty of folks on this site to help, including me.
  7. Welcome from another old fart. My Daughter live in Mesa so i get out to Rio Salado once in a while from the frozen tundra of Wisconsin. Got to love them 1911's!
  8. Welcome! If you live in the U.S. than it's USPSA not IPSC. USPSA is the U.S. governing body for IPSC. If your Sig is a DA/SA, it may not be the best choice for USPSA. I have had some issues with regard to the first long heavy trigger pull and subsequent light trigger pull. Also look at the different divisions for USPSA. e.g. In production division 9mm is best but you can only have 10 rounds loaded in the magazine. I like Comp-Tech holsters. I have three of them. One for production division and two for CCW carry. Great customer service. Blade tech is another good choice.
  9. Welcome! I use VV 3N37 for 9mm and 38 super. It shoots softer and is much cleaner than anything else I have tried. As far as cost goes, do a little math. VV might cost $6 or $7more per pound but it's less than a penny a round more to load with. Folks will spend $6 or more for a pack of cigs or $50 in a bar and think nothing of it. But than worry about spending a few dollars more for powder. Guess it's a matter of priority.
  10. Welcome! Love your town. Been there several times on my Harley. Yeah, maybe I should paint my Dillon Red! LOL!
  11. Welcome! Out in the west Texas town of El Paso! OK, my singing sucks! At least my shooting is a little better! You'll find a lot of good information here and all you need to do is ask.
  12. Welcome! My open gun is set up for 38 super comp. I was somewhat surprised that I picked up more 38 super comp brass (Open Division) at last years Handgun Nationals. I had expected to see more 38 super and possible 9mm (Major) but not so. To switch between 38 super and 38 super comp, all that is needed is an extractor change. Though 9mm major may have a slight cost advantage, it is somewhat off set by the fact the 9mm major cannot be reloaded as often due to extreme pressures taking it's toll on the brass.
  13. Was at a gun show today here in Waukesha Wisconsin. A vendor had some boxes of WW small and large pistol primers. Asking price $75! In front of other people I let him know what kind of jerk he was for taking advantage of this siuation. I went to the other side of town to a gun store and he would only sell me a box of 1,000 but I got them for $39. Still I wish I could find Federal small pistol primers but will take what I can get for now.
  14. I like Zero and Precision Delta for 9mm and 38 Super bullets. 38 Super bullets are slightly larger (.0007") in diameter. I use 125 grain FMJ from both Zero and Precision Delta.
  15. I worked up a load using WW 296 and a Hornady 158 grain XTP bullet. Crono's right up there and is super accurate in my S&W 6" 686. Also less powder can increase pressure very high as has happened with some of the very light cowboy loads. Some of these guys mix Cream of Wheat to fill the case but I would not recommend it. So I recommend using slow powders for magnums pistols such as 296, H110 etc.
  16. Welcome! Depending on where you live in Illinois you might want to check out NISA. http://www.nisa-uspsa.com/
  17. Good! I presently have two Ultra's. A 2002 and a 2012. I pulled the engine on the 2002 as it developed a knock. Parts are in the machine shop and it's being completely rebuilt with all the new upgrades. I will sell it with new engine warranty. So what are you shooting?
  18. Welcome! I assume you also ride a Harley from your sign in name?
  19. Welcome. Seems it would be better to shoot Production with your 34. Our is it modified past Production rules?
  20. For USPSA or IDPA competition the modifications allowed will vary depending on the division you shoot it. I might suggest looking at the rule book, which are downloadable, to determine which modifications are allowed once you determine what division you want to shoot in. This also includes what holsters are allowed as well.
  21. Congradulations! I only have one Glock, a 23 that is one of my carry guns. Here in Wisconsin about 1-1/2 years ago they passed a concealed carry law. I got my paperwork in the first day it went into effect and had my license in a week! My license is #914 and now they are up to about 180,000. Hope you don't have as much of an issue getting magazines for it. Are you restricted to magazine capacity?
  22. Thanks for all the comments. Late summer or later will probably mean I'll just be R.O.ing matches and not shooting them . Primers have been in somewhat short supply even before this latest issue. Seems like a good business to get into.
  23. I started using 3N37 in my Springfield XDM 5.25 9mm because I had a lot around for my Open gun. I'm using a Precision Delta 125 grain FMJ bullet and dropping 5.7 grains. Very clean, very consistant and softer shooting than WW231, or clays. Also never had a malfunction either.
  24. I started using 3N37 in my .38 super comp, open gun. Since i had a reasonable amount of it laying around I started using it in my Springfields XDm 5.25 9mm. Compared to other loads, mostly using WW231, it's much cleaner and softer shooting. It is also more consistant across the crono. Yes it's more expensive but in reality it's less than a penny a round more. OK so I'll cut back on a few beers at the bar.
  25. Ok, i've been finding powder here and there but Primers are another story. All kinds of story's as to why but does anyone know where or when primers are or will be available? Dang, I'm Jonesing here.
