I'm trying to understand the Classification System. I was under the impression you need to shoot a minimum number of qualifying matches to get a classification. But I know some shooters who have shot a lot of matches and are still listed as "unclassified." So I'm confused as to how one gets classified in 3GN? Thanks for any assistance. -John

Anyone have a source to buy one of these OTHER than directly from MGM? They seem to be discounted quite a bit from many sources (like Amazon) but no one but MGM themselves seems to carry this specific model. Any help? -John

Very creative solutions guys! The one problem I see (theoretically) with the orange cart solution is the muzzles of your rifle and shotgun aren't pointed at the ground like they are with the stroller solution.

No, the trigger change isn't authorized. (same rules as production). The rules allow internal modification but nothing that is visible from the outside. In the name of all that's holy, WHY?!?!? Look, if you're trying to attract guys that carry guns with optics, you can bet the most of these guys (like myself) are going to have modified triggers. Understand that many, if not most of CCW folks who have an optic on their gun do NOT do so because they have poor eyesight. Most do it because they want the best possible tool money can buy in a life or death situation. If a guy is going to spend the jack for an optic, he'll spring for a better trigger too... Oh well...maybe when the Sig P320 RX comes out and I pick one up, I'll reconsider trying USPSA... -John

Does CO allow for any trigger work/modification? Would my Apex trigger on the below gun be OK? If I load my 12 round magazines with 10 rounds, am I rules compliant?

If JP would offer their discount to Certified NRA Instructors (as most manufacturers do) then I definitely would have gone with JP. But I ended up going with my 2nd choice, which is the Colt Competition CRP-18. They've made some nice changes in the 2016 model: I'm really excited to get it (order placed, should be about 30 days). I'm sure eventually I'll change a few things on it, but it should provide a great place to start, and a nice upgrade from the Colt 6940P I'm currently using. It seems like the do-it-yourself crowd just can't fathom why others don't build. There's many legitimate reasons as to why not to build (not the least of which being time) so why waste digital ink trying to convince someone to build? I don't get that. John, thanks for the thoughts about the competition guns. I looked at Colt Competition's website and I don't see anything on their site talking about the new Gen 2 rifle. I did send them an email and asked about the rifle. I tried to find a YouTube video on the Gen 2 and there was nothing that I found. Very little information available on that rifle. Tell me more about that rail system. It looks like it is a modular rail. Are the mounting sections proprietary? It's not M-Lok, nor KeyMod. Love that the rifle comes standard with a G SSA-E for a trigger. Official thank you for all of your help. You are correct in that they don't have any information on the website yet don't know why. Actually the hand guard is M-Lock per the spec sheet. They had to drop the G SSA-E in favor of a CMC trigger. Cited problems with unintended double fires. I'll be doing a photo and video review of mine once I get it.

But try and grasp the concept that not everyone has the time, patience, or mechanical aptitude to build an AR. Some of us will gladly take a debatable incrementally lesser rifle for more money. If you have time, patience, or mechanical aptitude, good on you. Some of us struggle just to find time enough to shoot. My gun smith charges $50 to put an upper together. I get the parts, he builds it to spec. I'm still money ahead. Congratulations. Again a good and trusted gunsmith the charges below market rates is not a resource that everyone has in their hip pocket.

In the US (and Canada), yes. Most of the rest of the world follows the FCI standard which calls for a natural tail. Since the breed is from Germany, we raise them according to the FCI standard. Egad! I've hijacked/drifted my own thread!

Thank! The Rugged Gear mounts look a little pricier ($15.00 more each) than the Kolpin grips. I don't supposed you've compared them? Do the Rugged Gear mounts offer any advantages for the extra money?

I first posted the article to my website on Friday, March 26th so perhaps you did your search in the last week? I made a couple of changes before posting it here today. I certainly have no complaints about quality from either the jogging stroller or the grips/mounts which support the long guns. Everything looks like it will hold up a really long time. We'll see.

Interesting. Where do you typically shoot? Your profile indicates you're from Springfield, VA - I wouldn't guess that a match in VA would be all that dusty. Sounds like more of a problem out West.
