I made mine 'mine' without replacing any parts. To each his own I suppose. -

I appreciate the feedback. Here's where I'm at: Had a good range session yesterday with the V7. Can't say that I am in love with the M223 though - I think I was better with my AimPointPRO, even at 50. I got it sighted in, but I just didn't bond with it; idk; the reticle lines seem kind of thick; maybe I just need to shoot it a little more and get used to it Red dot seems easier and faster sight acquisition, both eyes open; suppose I could use the Deuck offsets for close stuff...need more trigger time, as usual

This is somewhat gear related, so I’ll put this here. I have both a non-magnified red dot and a Nikon M223 for my AR. Should I start out in Limited, or just dive in to Tactical? I like the idea or minimal equipment requirements, but as a new 3G shooter I am concerned that I won’t be able to make my hits with the AR much past 100 yards or so due to my near-sightedness; that could be remedied with practice however. Are there any advantages or disadvantages starting out in Limited? Thanks

Gear : Where to get started?

I know I will want to shoot once I see it, for sure! I think I've watched a few of your videos as well on YT; well done; helpful. Edit: no, sorry; not your videos (user: 1341usmc) -
Gear : Where to get started?
Roscoe09292010 replied to Roscoe09292010's topic in Multi-gun Gear & Accessories
Quick follow up: I purchased a few Choate caddies and some dummy rounds to get myself familiar with the gear and work on safe reloading. I am going to try to get to the 3G match this weekend in Oxford to watch and see what else I can learn. -
FYI, Plano has a what I would call a Pelican-lite case now for ~$100; comes with the pluck & pull foam as well; "Plano 108361 Gun Guard AW Tactical Case 36" I can fit my AR or my Benelli M4 in it. When I get ready to shoot matches, I will likely use a buggy of some sort; can't imagine lugging around hard cases

Gear : Where to get started?

Yeah, that's what I meant Thanks for the clarification; will look for a few simple caddies; I have some dummy loads i can practice with until I attend a match. Cheers -
Gear : Where to get started?

Thanks for all the excellent info; much appreciated. I might invest in a couple simple AR pouches and use the cargo pockets for the shells in the short term. Thanks again. -
I currently shoot IDPA and am comfortable with it. Getting into 3 gun and doing some research, I am a bit overwhelmed by all of the gear choices. I plan to attend a few 3 gun matches and watch and ask questions, but there is where I'm at currently, and am seeking more opinions. What do I need in order to attend my first match with regard to reloading systems? + belt; I have one but am considering the Safariland ALS + AR mag pouch(es); capacity for 2 mags? 4 mags? + shotgun shell carriers; this is where my head spins (3x3, 4x4, chest rigs) + pistol holster; got it + pistol mag pouch; got it Also, I've read via a Guns & Ammo article that ammo is typically cnsumed at the following rate per match? Obviously every match is different, but I know what the max is for IDPA, just looking for a ball park reaonable local match expectation pistol; 150 rifle; 150 shotgun; 100 Thanks very much.

9mm Precision Delta 124gr. Round nose

Do you have the correct seating die installed? I had to swap mine from the SWC to the RN because I was getting the same kind of markings on my plated bullets. -
I have a Rush 12 and PF. Depends on match and expected conditions / weather. If it’s really hot and I want to tote multiple water bottles, hand towels, etc, or rain is in the forecast and I want to pack a small jacket, I will carry the R12. For just a normal match, cooler temps I will carry the PF. For longer matches I’ll carry the R12 with my normal stuff and snacks. HTH

This is not about rules IMO it about safe handling. Safe area or not, I don’t know if they guy beside me in the Safe Area is competent, following IDPA rules, USPSA runs, Club rules, etc. He better not sweep me or others (or himself for that matter) with the concept of ‘hey, it’s unloaded and the slide is back, and there is no rule telling me I can’t….. Who cares about ‘rules’ at that point? Seriously. Accidents or NDs usually happen due to a multitude of failures, not just one rule bring broken. Slide open, check Unloaded, thought to be Pointed downrange, no ...'hey I am handling an unloaded gun, I can point it wherever I want.....bang...' Parts fail; safe handling routines typically don't If any one rule (or part) fails, the other routines supplement them to avoid a catastrophe.

I guess it depends on a couple things for me: + at what level are you shooting + who are you shooting against; yourself or are you truly competing against others Each stage stands on its own; at least for me. Don't let 1 stage dictate your attitude or approach for the rest of the match. Kind of a defeatist attitude really. Regroup, refocus, and do the best you possibly can on the rest of the stages. You have no control over what anyone else does, if you are competing against them - they may flub another stage, or more. JMHO Good shooting. Stay safe.
