  1. Not sure what the "action" is you are referring? The only "ultralite" reference I know off for Volquartsen refers to their barrels, not their receivers, so I am not sure where/ what you need to file... you definitely should not have to file anything on the Wiland chassis...
  2. Thank you very much for the answers and perspectives shared on my earlier questions. It is extremely helpful and I appreciate it very much. I plan on finalizing my orders with Wiland and KIDD tomorrow and am looking forward to participating in more steel challenge matches this year. From the information shared I am certain the feeding issues I’ve been experiencing during the longer range matches are all Force ammo related and therefore an easy fix. Also, I was not planning on using expensive ammo for the Steel challenge matches and were thinking about alternatives and your comments helped with that decision as well.
  3. I little off topic but somewhat relevant. I went to the range on Sunday to test a couple different ammo options to see what my KIDD prefers. I am using the standard KIDD recoil spring and usually shoot Eley force in long range matches. I was curious to see whether there would be a significant difference in accuracy between different ammo for my barrel. It was an interesting experiment but the key as it relates to this topic is that I could definitely feel a significant difference in the action/bolt movement when I was shooting the force rounds. They are definitely much hotter than the others I tried, which were Eley std, RWS r50, Eley match, SK std, Center-x, Midas+, Eley benchrest semi-auto and X-act. Force measures at an average of 1180fps from my rifle (measured with a labradar over a 100 rounds) so I did not really think of it as an exceptionally hot round, but shooting it back to back with the others I could definitely feel the difference. As I mentioned, I am currently running the standard spring and Eley force tends to run fairly reliably. However, once in a while and usually during a match (which is when I do most of my shooting; not much time otherwise for practice) the bolt will not completely go into battery and a round will get stuck about three quarters into the chamber. This sometimes also happens when I rack it when preparing to start the stage. When that happens I save those rounds for inspection but thus far they looked good with no obvious damage or irregularities and I do not know if there is any pattern. What I am starting to do now is to number my magazines and document if there is any relation but at this point in time I cannot say definitively whether that could be a contributing factor. I have been wondering if I should switch to the 10% heavier spring but have not tried it yet. I am currently busy purchasing the parts to build a SCSA rifle and am planning on purchasing a Wiland barrel. Other that about a 1oz weight difference, is there any other difference between the black and stainless barrels? Also, I did not see the option for a benz chamber... that was probably a special order? Is the regular sporter chamber barrel too inaccurate at 50 yards for silhouette? This will primarily be a steel challenge rifle but I would like a little flexibility as well.
  4. Great, thank you very much for the details. Definitely not too much verbiage and very relevant! Someone else mentioned it earlier in the thread, but if you have access to compressed air it makes it really easy to slip those foam tubes over the handguard. For the clamp on shoulder piece, you could probably use another piece of the original buffer tube that was cut for the front mount if you still have it? Or maybe cut a shim from a piece of stainless steel sheeting.
  5. Looks really nice @Hoops How does it compare to the homemade version? I actually have the “no-snag” version in the cart ready to check out but have been mulling over which one to get. Now that you have the adjustable cheek riser, would you buy it again over the chubby? You mentioned that you decided to install the 10% reduction guiderod spring. Any specific reason for this and what is your experience with it? I have been thinking about trying it out but every once in a while the regular strength version feels like it is hanging up a bit when I manually charge it on a fresh magazine, so I am reluctant to switch to a reduced power and was wondering whether I should try the heavier one instead..
  6. Thank you very much for the detailed comparison of the three @Hoops and thank you also @zzt and @jrdoran the additional context definitely helps. I am going to search for the Wiland chassis topic now. I really like the idea of using the talon grip tape in the rear and am going to play with that a little bit when I put the new gun together. I totally agree regarding the quality of kIDD products. Amongst others, I have a supergrade that I built into a precision rifle and I love it. My 22lr experience mostly centers around longer range PRS, NRL22 and benchrest type shooting and the SCSA game is new for me. I guess that may explain my questions about the receiver fit.. i only shot one steel challenge match before but that was with a centerfire pistol. It was enough to know I definitely want to shoot it more regularly with rimfire though.
  7. Very interesting and timely thread with great information. Personally I am very happy Hoops was able to shoot both rifles in the match and is able to provide relevant back-to-back feedback. Both of these are currently on my short list for my next build. I am thinking of the TACCOM as well but somehow the idea of the delrin makes me wonder, only because I havent seen one in person yet. @Hoops I realize you still need more trigger time (especially under a timer) behind the Wiland and the KIDD, but just based on you experience with it thus far, the install in the Wiland chassis regarding fit, potential movement of the received, etc. I would love to hear more of your thoughts between them? Wiland mentions five points of contact with the receiver but they do not expand on what/where these are whereas I think the KIDD essentially focuses on the front action screw and the rear cone shaped set screw? I am not planning on installing a bull barrel of course but I still do want a solid and stable rifle with no rocking of the receiver (or concern that it will start loosening up during a match or under any heavy handling)...
