  1. I have done the same on my measures as number99 and noticed a considerably easier time dialing it in and keeping the adjustment at the same level as you run the machine. I went one step further and clamped my die head in the press and installed aroller bearing under the sheel plate. the only differences in powder charge I have now are due to not separating brass. It is dead on 99 out of 100 and the one is never more than .1 grains difference. It may seem like a lot of work but it has turned out very reliable on every powder I load!
  2. Purchased mine from inline fabrication for my 550 and it is very bright and works well. no batteries just plugs in to the strip on my bench! very affordable also and dan is a great guy to talk with if you have any problems
  3. been waiting for months. Brian sais dillon says they will be caught up end of august@!
  4. Next will be redding competition dies and my ammo will be more accurate than I! probably already is!
  5. omg clamping die plates and needle bearing indexing plates. This could be an addiction!
  6. I must say that this machine is fabulous! Pardon the pun. I have read every thread on this machine before I purchased. Since I recieved the machine I installed a strong mount, roller handle, led light and performed the polishing of the charging bar and removed the bellcrank and installed springs. So far the only small issue I have encountered is the occasional hard to seat primer. I have not figured that one out as I ream the primer pockets the first time I reload the mixed brass. However that being said I still seem to be a little shy about just checking every 25th for charge weight. Seems like the powder bar gets out of adjustment rather easily. +.1 - +.2 grains per 100 rounds. This has made me a little nervous on some loads as I dont want a compacted load. So I happened to run across a thread I missed about unique tek charge bars with mics on them and the baffles. Man this press flies now without any worries and believe it or not even with mixed brass after I get the adjustments made my oal is within .004 all the time and most of the time within .002" depends on how thick the rim portion of the case is. I just cannot be happier at the ease of use and the consistency of this press after u learn it a little. It was very easy and all of you folks out there with your little tidbits have made this much easier and a joy I can tell you. my other press is a rock chucker and its starting to get a little dusty! Thanks to brian for the accessories and this website also! Loading 9mm, 40 s &w, 45 long colt and 45acp so far as those are my favorite guns. 223 if the dies ever get here lol! standard deviation has is almost in the single digits now on everything I load. Thanks for the help all of you and keep up the great advice! Semper Fi Travis
  7. I have loaded a minimal amount of my new 550b. only 2000 rounds so I am fairly new to this press. I am loading 40 s & w. have had no primer feed issues and everything works great except for the occasional case where seating the primer is much stiffer than the others. always seems to be a federal case and I am using cci500 primers which I know are a little larger and harder than the others. Sometimes it looks like it cuts a small amount of brass from the primer pocket when deprimed on the federal cases however i cant see where the old primers were staked or crimped. Is this anything to worry about?
  8. recieved my chrono and ran a few of these. now up to 5.7gn n340 and avg velocity is 1052fps overall deviance 11 on a string of 30 shots. very minimal leading in the barrel and shoot and feed nicely. I think ive found my plinkin load!
  9. dude you broke it. deal with it instead of trashing
  10. pro chrono digital is all that i have used so i couldnt say one way or the other. however for the price and ease of use the pro chrono is a great tool. that being said if your shooting 1000m with 50bmg or some such a few feet per second could make a large difference! never had a problem with mine at all.
  11. loaded 50 rounds 5.3gn vvitori n340 oal 1.123 with very light crimp. all shot well and no misfeeds. very little leading but seems a little light. these bullets are .40 not .401 so i wonder if they will lead after a few more rounds. will wait for the chrono before I bump the load up a little. then shoot some and se how they perform. These were very accurate!
  12. Last week I recieved my 1st progressive which is a 550b. after intial install and setup I have found the consistency of this machine amazing! powder charge exact every time on the rounds i loaded. 250 .40 s & w. oal variance .002" wow. on a good day that was the same on my rock chucker! Very simple to set up and adjust although I must admit to reading virtually every thread on this website as to 550 problems and ways to counteract with the primer feed and powder measure. Looking forward to many years happy reloading on this press! Still waiting on the strong mount and roller handle but for now it will have to do!
  13. I have a lyman reloading manual and it says oal 1.09. when i seat the bullet that far the shoulder is below the edge of the case. i played with the oal and 1.120-1.125 seems to work well in the pistol and thel crimp will be between the grease groove and the edge of the shoulder. so with this being said how do i determine powder charge starting point correctly. i have vt n340, unique and titegroup right now on the shelf. actually the lyman maual data was for 150gr swc and it advise n340 for accuracy. new to reloading and just want to make sure i get correct habits down before going crazy. chrono is still b/o so i dont have access to one yet. Thank you for any advise given in advance. great site!
