That makes my smile! Cause I don't see hardly any open major glocks like mine! I also got the Burris and Wolf barrel with a custom comp. Will be shooting it at the Nationals next month and again at Area 2 this year. If you're at these 2 matches hope to run into you! BTW I'm a good friend of Larry P who has been an RO at Area 2 and WSSS the past couple years. He wears a green Rio Salado bowling shirt.

Mine just arrived in the mail. Hope you are right cause using a stock striker spring in a race gun sucks! Did my pencil test and this L.S. LW steel striker launches it only 2/3rds as high as a steel striker with a reduce power spring. Also the kolene nitride is so hard, I couldn't even polish it with my dremel. Must be the same stuff they put on the gold drill bits. The part that doesn't make sense what everyone is saying that it hits harder and prevents light strikes with a reduced power spring. I'll have to find out for myself. I'm also using a vanek super trigger, wolf guide rod with the 14lb wolf spring and federal primers. BTW I tested a titanium uncoated cheap striker I got from online auction, and the tip melted. I also have the L.S. Titanium which I have not tested yet. Kinda worried now since it cost me $100!

I have tested my strikers performance by putting a cap type ballpoint pen (one with a flat top, not paper mates which are recessed) into my 9mm barrel to see how high the pen flies. I can hit my 8 ft ceiling from a seated position firing from a face level using a reduced power wolf spring. BTW the pen is only good for a few tries before the pen develops a divot.

You have to build it to see if it works! I've been experimenting with glock open 9 for the past year and half. Thanks to the plethora of drop in parts, you can try so many combinations to deal with the problems after you build it. Good luck!

Thanks =) "Prepare to slow down" and "not focus on speed" are probably not the best phrases. I should have said that I make the decision and utter commitment to break my shots only when I have correct visual focus, no matter how slow or fast it "feels". I have come to realize that my perception of time gets badly distorted when the adrenaline is pumping. My normal speed in practice feels a certain way, but if I try to recreate this same feeling at a big match it is actually recklessly fast. This was confirmed when I did my video review of the stages I had shot earlier that day. Best stages: On stage 2, 3 and 6 I committed to take all the time necessary to align my sights well, break the shot, follow through and call each shot. I felt like I was swimming in honey, but I was relaxed and saw EVERYTHING. My perception clock seemed to register several seconds between shots while I was shooting the stage. When I saw the video afterward, I couldn't believe what I saw. There was me, shooting at a comfortable pace, smoothly and efficiently. Thinking about it now, I was probably shooting a little slow. But my hit factors have never been as good and consistent at a big match. Worst stages: On stages 4 and 5, I ran at what "felt" like my normal practice speed. Trying to relax is trying, not relaxing. The results on paper showed penalties and crappy hits. Video showed me racing through the stage much faster than I remembered. My sights are my speedometer. My internal clock is not trustworthy. Way to go Nick in Area 2 +1! You're doing a great job diagnosing yourself! Only way to get better! I too have the same problems! Will have to work on those as well! Leo

Try something different. My open 9 is still evolving! Like a little heavier recoil spring. Maybe it's pulling out of battery when the trigger is pulled. Then increase the power factor a little. A more sensitive primer like Federal if it isn't high primers. New extractor since that is what is holding the round when the striker hits it.

Finished modifying the Miculek comp today. Works really well! Thanks Dan for giving me the idea to put it on my Glock 17. Here is a pic of what I did to it.

I got different results for the Miculek comp on my Glock 17. Shot a match today. 6 stages. It is only 50% as effective as my modified LWD major comp. Tack welding a sleeve to plug up 1 side of the Miculek comp this week to make it a top ported comp only. It may be a keeper after that!

Just got my AR15 Miculek comp. Instead of the jam nut, I used a peel washer to index it. Also crush washers work as well. They are thin so almost all of the threads on the comp can be used. Having it reamed at my gunsmith at the moment. Now have to see if it is any better than my LWD comp. Hoping it will shoot like a .22 rimfire.

To weld up the sides of the chamber, just get some round steel stock that fits the gap and weld it. I did that with my LWD comp to make it shoot flatter. To get more threads you can copy the way the LWD comp is machined. Cut the threads from the comps opening so it can go in over the barrel a little. Then drill and tap for a 1/16" 10/32 set screw. You may have to mill the area where the set screw is first so it clears the guide rod. These barrels have a flat at the bottom to secure the Gemtech suppressors with a set screw. Doing this will add a lot of support to the comp so it stays concentric to the bore. Like you said hitting baffes is bad! I'll have JoJo at JV Dynamics do this. Open guns are his speciality. Have said that he could just machine one out of a blank that looks like it belongs! But owning a Glock makes me super cheap!

I'll have to try the .223 on my Glock then. I've been using a LWD for 12000 major rds so far because that's all that is available for the thread pitch on my LWD threaded barrel. You think it is possible to weld up one side and turn it to the other side so you will have a regular comp? I see the jam nut on the back. With the jam nut did you get enough thread on the comp so it is concentric with the barrel? OK I just got one from Midway for 34.00 Always wanted to try one but thought it was too heavy, but yours works!

You were right to switch to the stock firing pin for heavier strikes. I think you had a mismatch on the slide speed vs mag speed when you used the Taylor mags. Your 33 mag spring solved that. Your slide speed must be pretty fast if you have to use 17lb springs. I would try different profile bullets like the MG 124 CMJ to see if that helps feeding with your original setup. I agree reliability is your first priority so you won't be bumed out thinking about that at every stage. Everytime that happened to me I wanted to go back to limited but fortunately I solved all my open 9 problems. It's all trial and error and every gun is different. You just have to keep shooting it and making changes along the way! Good luck!

i seen his web sight, whose barrel, comp, sights? you ordered everything and put it together yourself? I did my research and asked questions here. Then put it together. It's a glock so yes put it together myself with drop in parts. I have broken the locking block pin, the slide lock spring, cracked the comp, broke my JPoint. All minor things that I fixed myself. I shoot everything in major 9 now. Including steel and bianchi cup matches. Never have any jams and my dot never leaves the window!

I have the LWD 9 major with comp. All drop in parts. So far 9000 rds thru it at 170PF.

That's M class fast! My production holster and mag pouches are too slow for open although I made B with them. What rig do you use? I have to get one for open class still. I like the Guba Riva holster but nobody has them in stock. And the CR Speed belt and pouches to go with it.

The LWD comp is so effective in recoil control, it slows the slide. If you have a full Taylor mag it will cause short stroking and sometimes failures to eject. These will give you more slide speed. Make sure your rounds are not so long the bullets are rubbing against the front of the mag as they move up. Use a 13lb spring. You can even go down to the 11 lb. Try slower burning powders. They got more burn time to push the slide back. Fast powders for 40 may not be enough ummph to cycle the slide with the LWD comp.

Mine is a 17c and it fits perfectly! All mags drop free! You can do it! Push that plug down until you can line up the backstrap hole with the plugs screw hole. Then put that backstrap screw in. Tighten it. Slip the front of the magwell on the gun first. Then push down the back part. Insert the bottom screw and tighten it. Lastly snap in the nylon insert.
