  1. Will shooting a rimfire (22) help with training on target transitions? The cost of ammo would let me practice almost five times as much. I realize that I would still need to shoot my production gun each week. Any thoughts?
  2. I want to start shooting single stack. I have everything except magazine holders, how may do I need and should they be double or single. Thanks in advance for the help.
  3. Primarily to improve pistol skills for 3 gun, and to have fun shooting.
  4. I have shot 3 gun for several years, so not new to competition, but want to start shooting more pistol. Question is which class. I have a limited minor, production and one that would be single stack. The limited minor is the 3 gun pistol, I was thinking that would be best for a while. What do you people think would be best.
  5. Rose Action Sports is the way to go. I had ported my shotgun over two years ago similar to Eagle4. This week I had Steve Rose port it to his new profile, much better! it is like I had not ported it before.
  6. I have been able to pay for match, but do not understand how to pay for shirt.
  7. I want a new holster to shoot IDPA with. Kydex or leather and one that would also work for CCDW, any suggestions as to which is best?
  8. Steve Rose at Rose Action Sports does a great job on Versamax.
  9. I have been using the MAG Technical receivers for two years now with no issues.
  10. As a competitor, not an RO, I like PractiScore as I can see how everyone else is doing as soon as they shoot. I take a picture of my score as soon as I accept the score and have my copy to look over later.
  11. Rose Action Sports does great work on shotguns. He has been shooting a M2 and is shooting a Beretta 1301c for a match this weekend. I have had a Versamax for 3 years with zero issues. Several good choices today, my suggestion is to go to local matches and shoot several different guns to see which one you like the feel of best.
  12. At the recent Pro-Am match, Greg Jordan ran a full choke on one stage. I had a modified as tightest and had some issues. 6" square steel at 29 yards is a tough target.
  13. Had no issues until I used alcohol to kill barrel cleaning chemicals like bolt shooters do. After lubing bolt well with 5W-20 mobile 1 and locking lugs with slide guide, no issues. Moral of story, No more alcohol in AR rifles, only in shooter.
  14. Cleaned rifle and left bolt carrier group out of gun for a week. No issues with lockup. All dimensions checked out. Put BCG back into rifle, locked up in two days. Found the bolt is locking up in the barrel extension. Lubed the bolt locking lugs with Slide Glide, no more issues. Just not enough lube in the correct spots. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
  15. You are correct Ben B., sorry but the CMT is what is labeled on the upper that I have. It does have the Tac added.
  16. CMT parts are made Cross Machine Tool, most are sold by Rainer Arms. The company also makes parts for other companies.
  17. Cross Machine Tools makes a great set, you can buy direct or through Rainer Arms.
  18. I will try that, I am cleaning it tonight and will check bore and bolt tolerance then also. Thanks for all of the ideas.
  19. Hang up starts at beginning and the carrier does not move, after you pull on it very hard it seams to break loose and then can be retracted. At this point it will work for a short time. No issues if you go shoot and leave dirty, only if cleaned and put into safe. Should I be cleaning bolt with some other chemical? I lube with Mobile 5W 30 oil before storage. As I said, this is the way I clean and lube by two other AR's with no issues on them.
  20. Can not retract the bolt carrier without a lot of force, then remove the bcg and the bolt will rotate only with difficulty. I have removed the bolt and cleaned everything same as my other AR's. Still does it.
  21. I have an AR 15 chambered in 204 Ruger. If it sits in safe for more than two weeks without the bolt being operated it locks up. I have cleaned the bolt, upper and barrel extension with Hoppes, Shooters Choice and Breakfree all with the same results. I have three other AR's and have never had an issue with any of them. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  22. I started shooting as a young boy, many years ago. Never competed until 2011 at the age of 56. I am still improving as a lot of what I learned as a young man does help. The issues during the first two years of competition was purchasing the gear necessary to be competitive. I shoot 3 gun and USPSA so overall a lot of gear purchases. I always have fun shooting however I finish in the match. I shot a 3 gun match last weekend that I was 11% closer to the winner than last year. The winner was Greg Jordan for both years. I was very happy with the improvements.
  23. Biggest bang for the buck is ammo. Practice a lot, shoot local matches. Then add trigger before anything else. By then you will know what you think that you need to change.
