  1. question on production rules in IPSC, I'm thinking of going next year to shoot production division, I shot IPSC before but mostly open division or standard, never really paid attention to production rules. My question is glock 17 gen 3 with aftermarket slide e.g. from 80p builders no windows, no optic cut just front and rear serration with grip stippling and trigger guard undercut and the rest is factory, will that be production legal in IPSC? I was browsing the rules and I did not see any or just miss them.

Just about to (finally) pick up my G17 gen 5 MOS that i want for Home use and want to make it as quick and simple to use as possible in case it's me or somone else in my house that ever had to use it. What optic would people recommend in this case. Again, not for competition. Thanks.

Assuming you and others in your house hold know how to use optics already and spent some time with them, here is my 2 cents.  If your looking for a dedicated house gun with optics, going on 3 or so years now I have the burris fastfire 3 on a nightstand gun (gen 3 g19), I have it on the lowest setting and the battery last about 6-7 months. I take it to the range every time i change the battery just to confirm zero. I did try the holosun 507c and 407c (sold the 407 since I like the circle dot better) with shake wake option however it is not for me, a bit slow to turn on in my opinion however the battery is still good, haven't change it yet (about a year now), I have the 507's now primarily on competition CO gun. The FF3 is cheaper than the Holosun's and great warranty.

    Howdy,

I've been tinkering for a year or so converting a Rock Island 10 mm double stack to a poor mans Limited Gun. I shoot revo primarily, but a horse decided bend my left thumb back  and the thumb over thumb crush grip I use is simply not possible:  my left thumb is pretty useless for the near future. Thumbs forward auto grip doesn't require crush strength in my left thumb, so its time finish the tinker project and learn to run the thing. A bbl change,  ramp angle changed and polished, new extractor, extended single side safety, mag well and 5 functioning 20/21 round mags with Gram springs and followers and taytlor freelance +4 extensions.  I'm over 1500 rounds with O malfunctions, so I haven't broken anything...yet.  I just bought a Cheely slide stop thumb rest; my 1911 holster will not work with the new bling.  What is a reasonably priced, idiot proof, secure race type holster that will fit the Para/RI frame?

    Thanks,

    Jason

I use my ultimate ghost holster from my 2011 pistols. Works great with my para frame with or without thumb rest slide stop. No adjustment need on the holster.

    1) No need to swap to an aftermarket, the OEM barrel is plenty accurate for USPSA and will run coated just fine.

been doing the same on my glocks (17 and 19 both gen 5) this year, been using summers bullet coated 9mm 145 grain, 4.6 wst powder, WSP primer @ 940/fps.

  5. I've been using Taylor Freelance, Taran, dawson & Arredondo for about a year now, all are good, I have 2 of each. been using them for co and limited minor. The arredondo's I can get 23 on them no problem the rest only 22 rounds. Trying ETS 21 rounds and Magpul, so far I only gotten a couple of matches (club matches) on them so far I'm not too impress with magpul been getting salt shaker on them but will see.

  6. having a back up gun is always a good excuse to buy a new/another toy lol, you don't have to buy the most expensive one, you can always pick up a used one and upgrade it gradually to your liking/need. It's better than not having anything to fall back on too when you need it the most.

  7. Just wondering if anybody ever order parts from sti knows how long it took for the parts to arrive? i sent my sti slide certificate that i bought from a fellow member here 4 months ago and still no slide. been calling n leaving messages but no one called me back yet. wondering if they lost my certificate or just back order on slides

Nothing wrong with it.  I have three open guns in the safe build on Para frames.  Two are in 45 ACP (1985 vintage) and one is 9x21 (1995 vintage).  Nothing wrong with any of them.  They are all strong shooters.

I would recommend you use STI/SVI magazines rather than Para magazines.  Reloads are so much smoother.  Back then, all it required was a little modification to the magazine catch.

If you watch closely, you do see the occasional Para open gun at matches, but they are few and far between.

What mount are your using on your open para's, single sided or c-more serendepit?
