  1. I've tried with a montana gold 180mtg 4.7 pb @1.210- 800fps It was decent I think. 4.9 loaded at 1.20 might get you there with a plated bullet. Prolly need more but would be a good starting point. If you're loading for like a glock or something that needs shorter OAL, drop charge maybe a bit.
  2. Increase OAL to 1.18 or 1.2, that should do it. Keep charge the same and see where that gets you. I never really load less than 1.2 in sti/svi
  3. Haha yeah I know what you mean but it came from my grandfathers estate over 15 years ago and everyone just kind of forgot about it. At the time, we didn't really shoot and reload much except for occasional and random plinking and using a shotgun powder for anything other than shotgun was like; saaayyyy whaaatttt? And because this is what I feel like when I look for things in the basement.
  4. So I stumbled across this in the basement, a unopened 12lb keg of red dot, and it is at the very least 40 years old. I want to shoot it but I think I have to keep it as is and mount it in my reloading room. Anyways, just thought I would share this neat find.
  5. Awesome match, thanks to everyone who helped put on this match! Even though stage 4 got tossed, I was very glad the RO's hung around and let people shoot it. Nothing more satisfying than shooting steel that flings off into the air. If you were in Squad 24 here is the link to the pictures I took of us (currently uploading 600 pictures, may take a while). I tried to get everyone but if you shot either before or after me I may not have gotten as many of you and I didnt get pictures of a few stages. There should be at least a few of everyone. I didn't really edit them because of the volume, so if there is a picture you really like let me know and I can fix it up for you. Thanks guys, we had an awesome squad, enjoy!
  6. Ive made this exact load for an SVI/STI and I had a lot of tumbling/accuracy issues. I was using 4.5gr WST @ 1.210 OAL for 850fps. You may have better luck in a glock. I would try 4.0gr or probably lower for a glock & steel. I think you may find the combination of WST and 200gr at a steel match power to be too sluggish.
  7. Funny you should mention that, I've noticed plated generally has the "best" recoil pattern of all the bullet types at the same PF/same powder, but jacketed to be the worst (by far) and moly in the middle just behind plated. It feels like the jacketed are too sharp, moly too sluggish, plated just right.
  8. TG and 165s is a pretty good load if you haven't tried it. PB isn't the greatest for limited, it will work but I think TG is way better . Wst, E3, and n310 are my favorites for 165s-180s. Not sure what powders you will be able to find at the moment.
  9. I dont see how a primer would get in the case anyways, unless it somehow happened after depriming. I would think the sizing die would let you know, ha
  10. I've been having the same issue with my redding comp seater. I also have a lee die so I reluctantly switched back to it and it did not help much, but my variations were not nearly as great as yours (1.208-1.218, set:1.212). I think they suggest taking out the spring in the redding if you are having major seating issues. Not very impressed with a die so expensive, they need to add more inserts or something. I would like to try the silicone idea
  11. 5.3/.4 gr titegroup with 165plated or jacketed @1.210 should put you close to 170pf. Makes my gun too hot to use for practice but feels great with a 12lb spring If you wanna shoot 200s try wst at around 4.5 for plated, 4.2ish for moly coated. 1.210 OAL
  12. Here are my loads for WST and a G22 3.9g wst 1.130 165gr xtreme plated - 770 3.5gr wst 1.135 180gr xtreme plated - 700 These are for lead SNS moly coated, I thought plated felt better but might as well post em Both @ 1.135 3.1 wst 175 swc - 717 3.1g wst 180L- 700 Also wst is reverse temp sensitive, don't worry about changing your charge really unless it's super hot outside then up the charge to maybe 3.7. The velocity change really is not that bad with minor PF. Also also, the glock is very forgiving with crimp and extreme bullets. Dont go to town on it but you shouldn't have an issue.
  13. Finally got some decent weather (~50°) to chrono some e3 loads. I've got a nice assortment to test but only 180s. All are loaded to 1.215 with 4.20-1 taper crimp and being shot out of a 5in schuemann non aet. I'll also shoot some out of an aet to compare for those who use aet but it's usually about .2-.3gr difference. 180gr moly coated FP: WT. FPS (PF) 4.0 - 907 (163) 4.2 - 935 (168) 4.4 - 963 (173) 180gr Xtreme plated (HPCB, heavy plate concave base): 4.5 - 840 (151) 4.7 - 870 (156) 4.8 - 915 (164) 180gr montana gold CMJ: 4.5 - 841 (151) 4.7 -875 (157) 4.9 -920 (165) Compared to wst these felt pretty much the same but better than n320, n310 still feels the best to me. It has the perfect ratio of snap to push. The plated and jacketed had huge variations (>50) and I was surprised to see the jacketed and plated chrono'd about the same. Plated should have ran slightly hotter but perhaps the heavy plating makes them behave much more like true jacketed bullets. The molys varied by about 5fps, very consistent, and I would say softer/less snappy than jacketed as you would expect. All in all, I think e3 is a good replacement for clays shooting moly coated bullets. I'll experiment more with the plated and jacketed, but I think the variations are too much for me to ever use competitively. They might need to be loaded shorter? Not super sure why they fluctuated so much considering how well it metered, this is the only powder I've had this issue with so far. Also, very clean compared to wst.
  14. If you all could note how it feels compared to any other powder you have used that would be most helpful.
  15. Perhaps, another long shot, some of the powder is clinging to the inside walls of the case but the vibration of shooting knocks it off and allows for a more complete burn. I've noticed this in my 1911 but it was only the first round of every mag. I assumed it just wasn't seating as hard from slide lock.
  16. 800x would work well with a comp. I know its not one of the 3 but its pretty available and cheap, otherwise n320. I would load long as possible in a glock
  17. It's not wst, wst is almost green and nonmetallic-looking. Also 5g of wst is not enough for major 40 @180gr unless it's lead. Still think it's titegroup. They always load hot, so 5gr of titegroup for a 180 would sound about right
  18. looks like titegroup or W231 but I'm pretty sure its TG.
  19. Sorry, I should have mentioned the major loads are for a 5in schuemann in an SVI. I would be very careful loading major with n310 in a glock/short chamber. My load is a 175gr sns LSWC with 4.4gr n310 @ 1.215 (IF you load this to fit in a glock it will most likely blow out your mag and ruin your gun). This runs about 970fps or 170PF. You could try to work up a load but I wouldnt recommend it, especially if you're shooting a 4in. Here is some more data you might find useful for working up a load. --------------------------------------------------------------- 180gr Montana Gold JHP & N310 Glock 22 - 3.2gr N310 @ 1.135 = 720fps ---> this load felt like garbage SVI - 4.6gr N310 @ 1.205 = 967fps ---> feels good but is sensitive to loading method and can tumble. 5.2gr WST @ 1.215 is much better with this bullet. ------------------------------------------------------------- FWIW, I think n310 loaded short will always feel like garbage compared to loading long. Ive tried loading my favorite glock 22 minor load, plated 180gr Xtreme bullet & 3.6gr WST @1.30, with n310 to the same length & PF and it feels terrible by comparison. Ive tested quite a few powders in my glock trying to find the optimal load and I think WST is the way to go, at least for minor but I'm sure it would be great for major as well. If you have tried WST and think something else feels better, let me know and Id love to compare the two. So far Ive tried N310, N320, Titegroup, WST, E3, Bullseye, Competition, and I dont know why I even bothered but Power Pistol. WST feeling the best for me.
  20. Do you use case lube? If not, I would try that and make sure your shell plate isn't over/under rotating before or during making contact with the die. I have the dual ring sizer die and it works beautifully, so I can't imagine redding would sell such a poor die in such an expensive die set. I do know that die is undersized and I've seen that some people have found they can't set the die all the way down to the plate. It may be best to just use your lee sizer.
  21. Personally I love n310 for major, but for minor I thought it sucked. It felt very harsh in my glock 22 behind a 180gr montana gold JHP. 3.2gr n310 1.135 180mtg-720 Would like to try it behind a 175 coated LSWC or 180plated for minor.
  22. Just to weigh in on my experiences with e3. Had tumbling issues in a cz75 with e3 behind a 147gr moly coated 9mm at minor PF. It also sounded "bad", if that makes sense to those familiar with reloading. Tried it in 40 major behind 180gr montana gold and 200gr moly coated bayou loaded long for an svi 5in. Both loads felt hot at just under major with mildly inconsistent chrono results (~163pf), no pressure signs whatsoever in any of my tests, but one of my least favorite as far as recoil characteristics. Didn't bother to check accuracy beyond no tumbling. Not really sure what the hype is with this powder or how anyone could compare it to clays. From my experience, it's nothing like clays. I would do more research before buying this powder if you're looking for a clays replacement (wst if you don't mind the temp sensitivity or n310 are both great). Anyone else get the same results as far as it being a poor competitive powder choice? I see a lot of data posted but none that compare it to currently used powders.
  23. Thank you Aron, set up crew, RO's who braved the weather, and sponsors for pulling together an excellent match! These stages really made you push it to the limit, I love it. Here are the pictures I took of my squad(23) shooting all day Sunday 2013 RIley USPSA Indiana State Match - a set on Flickr I tried to get everyone but depending on shooting order/stage readiness I may not have gotten as many of some shooters. Feel free to use these photos however you want. Thanks again for an awesome shoot! ps if there is a photo you really like but the exposure/color is poor let me know because I can easily fix it, I just used the auto correct feature to save time.
