For my VIP, I cut some magazines flush with the grip, and made aluminum base-plate inserts, to fit the CCP box. There is actually room for a little pad. A 3D printer would do the trick. r
Commander slide on an alloy Officers frame sounds great. I bought an STI VIP for CCW, just so I could use my (USPSA) long-loaded 40s. Flush magazines will be required if they don't change the Y axis.
Having had both, I think the 40 feeds better. Also, the 9mms jumped out of the magazines during reloads and, oddly enough, you could not unload the magazines without a tool. I gave up on it.
I lost the followers and springs from 2 magazines yesterday. They must have come out when the mags hit the dirt. I have been using these magazines for years. Is this common?
I just started shooting a Sig Traditional .40 in SS and could not be more pleased with the gun. 3.25# trigger with a hell-for-stout mainspring. Series 80 trigger and all. A narrow FO front sight and magwell and you are good to go.
My Springfield 9mm 1911 had a very long throat also. Me thinks it was an effort to limit the pressure from hot ammo. It never shot well so I sold it. I even built a fixture (anchored to 300 pounds of concrete in the ground) to hold the barrel so as to eliminate inaccuracy associated with lock-up . The shotgun-like patterns at 50 yards would not stay on a letter-size target. I tested dozens of factory and hand-loads so I know of which I speak. My fixture holds Glock and M&P barrels also: much better. The STI 40 S&W barrels are still the best.
First report:
100 light and heavy loads with no malfunctions except failure to lock back with some 45ACP magazines using my long (STI) loads. Never tried the factory mags, they have spacers in them. Great fit and finish. Crisp 3.25# trigger even with a hell-for-stout mainspring. The recoil spring measurers about 12 pounds on my fish scale. The wide front sight has to go.
