  1. SPS still sells mags directly to shooters in the US, so there are at least 3 sources of the magazines in circulation here to add to the confusion.

Not correct, Howard. Dean Makkos and myself are the official sole importers to the USA, and SPS is held by contract to not sell direct to USA shooters. Anyone can contact SPS to verify this.

Just a question........I can't seem to find tubes of any kind on your web site.......can you point me in the right direction if I were in the market to buy SPS tubes.....

    Scratch that......Found them on Docterusa.............

    Thanks

  2. YIKES!! Just had a chance to run some of my MG 121's over the chrono and I need to back down my Longshot load. 7.6 grains was giving velocities in the 1460fps range out of my 5.5 inch non-holed barrel with an old school comp on the end. lol

    Joe W.

Joe.....what is your OAL? Do you have any barrel porting?

  3. I have played with LongShot also and am very pleased with the performance it has given me. LongShot is a funny powder though it definitely likes some room in the case. I had to take my OAL out to 1.25 to get a consistent load.

    MG 121 gr IFP

    Starline brass

    Winchester SRP

    OAL 1.25

    8.3 grains LongShot

    1400 fps

Brazos Pro SX (Runs a little slower in 1390's)

IMM Open with 4 holes 1400fps

To me it shoots like a cross between 4756 (without the erratic dot movement) and 3N38. A pretty soft shooting load with very little, predictable dot movement.

  4. Excuse the double post, MY enthusiasm got the better of me on this one...

And while we are awaiting JJ's reply, how many of you M and GM shooters feel that you can lay down 5 splits of .08 in a row?

This is all great and all but generally a .11-.18 in a match is actually pretty darn good.

Even just playing around I can't get under a .09

.07-.08 for more than 2 shots.......way to go

I hear ya Martin... it's like well good for you, but what's the point? It just started as a string under .08 or more correctly I said I've had several splits at .06 and under .09.

    Barely B

    Jim

Dude you da man with those kinda splits............just pissed I can't do it ..................Ha ha ha ha ha ha

  6. OK I forgot to define cold.......I just do what I normally would when I shot any stage........turn on dot.... a couple draws.....play with my mags……mentally get ready.

The speed issue for this is really deceiving……….when you reach for it……it seems you always miss it………….I found that 1.7-1.8 or better on this is more than adequate.

I think the real goal is being able to truly see this and repeat that awareness level on demand at a match.

    Just my 2

  7. OK Bill Drill 10 yards.....forgot to move the target in.

    Open gun

    1.68 Cold

    1.39 Best

What I noticed in this drill is you can actually become to tense and over extend your draw slowing everything down.... first shot and splits. The best was being relaxed and actually thinking the gun was too close to my face :-)....my draw first shot went to high .7's low.8's and splits were in the .11-.14 range.

  9. This is crap. Just the latest way to overthink stages. When stages are published and just look for anything weird (start positions, carrying anything, etc.). Otherwise, guess what. Every stage is made of the same cardboard targets and steel plates that are at your home range. Shoot YOUR match.

That said, I like the rule that they had at I think the 99 Area 6 at Ant Hill. No one on the stage other than the squad on the stage. The back of the bays were taped off. If seen forward of that line, it's a match DQ.

    Rich

Rich, The way ant hill did the 99 area 6 was crap. I was there and it caused so much irratation amongst the shooters it was rediculous. Also that match was not a area level match( others opinions ) That was one of the reasons the area 6 was moved a year early. As for the guys with the videotape at NC sectional, I was shooting sat. afternoon and they ventured up on our stage about half way thru it. The videod a couple of guys shooting and the waited until we were thru with the stage. As soon as our last shooter had been scored and the stage taped they asked if they could go onto the stage. The RO said no problem, they were courteous to us and everyone around, they laugh and kidded with each other all afternoon and got in no ones way of shootingg. I knwo most of these guys and they are not top end shooters, they compete against themselves for bragging rights and to see who buys the beer.( what the sport is about, to promote shooting and commradery) They shot the next morning and they once again wer in good spirits, I dont know that any 1 of them burnt down the match or even placed for that matter. At the end of the match they all packed up, shook hands, told everyone that they had a good time and that it was a good match and left. I worked most of the match doing various things and other than 2 dq's( neither was intentional but rules are rules) The match ran well. We had some of the better shooters lost to the 3-gun nationals but thems the breaks. Overall I was satisfied with the way the match ran and the staff of the match handled problems as we had some of the ro staff get sick before the match and not be able to attend. This led to some double duty for others but everyone stepped up and made it happen.

Martin I take offense to that "all the big shooters where gone" remark.......I was there !!

  10. As long as they did not interfere with the running of the stage...............it should not be an issue. If you choose not to look at a stage prior to shooting it that to me is a big mistake.

Keeping stages off limits has always created a problem. When the stages are not off limits I have never seen problem.

    Just my nickel

  11. The following is an extract from our 2006 club end of the year match.

    post-1869-1192715780.jpg

It's in italian, but I guess you might be able to get the most from it.

Why shouldn't it be legal to use an array of plates in a stage?

Thanks for the idea!! I will have to use that in practice.

  12. We recently screened in a porch. The material was ordered in from Home Depot. It came in a roll...4ftx100ft, IIRC. The stuff we got was probably too tight a mesh to be good for walls (it would still catch some wind on the range), but you could get just about anything.

This stuff wasn't carried on the shelf. My buddy found it online...maybe at the HD website...then went in and ordered it. The HD guy didn't know he could get it, but we had the product numbers to show him and informed him he could. :)

Yep I found it....it is nothing more then Sun Shade Screening.

    Thanks Flex

  13. I think a lot of shooters, when they're moving from position to position, don't visualize or feel anything in particular. (I know I didn't for many years.) This is due to the way the stage is visualized initially.

Think about a stage you can remember visualizing. How did you see it? Now what did you see, but how did you see it. You probably visualized what you needed to see to shoot the first target or group of targets, then the next group of targets, and so on. Therein lies the problem. The visualization "ends" with each group of targets. So as your racing to the next position, your mind is not filled with anything that you're going to see when you get there. So you arrive and start blasting in somewhat of a panic. If this sounds familiar, you can also relate how this just gets worse the more times you have to move during a stage.

I visualized stages and shot them like that for years, before I finally learned to create a visual movie of the whole stage, beforehand. With no details left out. I also learned to add how I was going to feel when I arrived at each position to the mental rehearsal. Sometimes even a slight, planned, exhale, as I was arriving at a position, would help keep my mind together.

Holy $hit that is exactly what is happening............as I was reading this the big light bulb went off..............thanks !!!!

  14. hmm.

there are a lot better powders for it now.

Back in the old days of single stack supers and 155gr bullets we used #7. It is very soft, but does not work a comp well.

What weight bullets are you looking at and I will pull my old loading books out and see what I have.

I use 121 and 124's. I have tried 3n38...to me it is a little harsh. I have used longshot but can't seem to make major anymore. N105 is very hard to get and 4756 has way too much spilage. I should also add I am using a Brazo's Pro SX with 3 holes and will be using an SVI IMM Open.

  15. I have done some research and could not find any load date for Accurate No. 7. Does anyone use this powder for 38 super? Care to share any load data??

    Thanks

    Martin
