  1. I received my 929 last week and sent it to Dave Olhasso to do some trigger work. He just completed my 986. What I'll have to try when I get it back is the short colt thing. I shoot the short colts in the 627V-comp. I also have to pick up some moons for it since the cheap bastards at smith graciously gave me ONE clip with the 929. I should have the gun back this week.
  2. Most were for equiptment and ammo, a couple was for people leaving the range they were on with a hot gun. I was DQ'd because my grip safety didn't work, no I didn't disable it or pin it, When I built the gun it worked fine and I guess that the last time it was checked. Ironically a shooter with a "safe gun" was reholstering and put one through his leg and that stopped the match for a few hours on Saturday. My 1911 with a bad grip safety still has a thumb safety that works perfectly, but I was DQ'd for having an "unsafe gun". They allowed me to finish the match for fun, which is the reason I was there in the first place.
  3. Dave o's gun is built on the steel framed 92 single action. It is what he uses for minor power. Steel challenge and falling steel. Great little gun, I perfer the 2011 guns, however you need a bit more power to run the 1911/2011 style guns.
  4. Pass granted... Proceed. How about this... Any chance you point a person in the right direction to dig this up? A bunch of "Google" time came up empty. If I lived close to you you'd have to beat me out of your basement/shop/house/whatever! I'd love to learn how these things work from someone who knows. In the directions that comes with the AFTEC/MCGuns extractor it refers to the "STRIKE POINT". Maybe this will help.
  5. Well said John S. It's thru tireless efforts of people like John and Steve that make it all work. They were responsible for assembling the stages and the crews to work the match. I have not heard any complaints about the match or the stages. The shooters were also very good about pasting targets and it ran like clock work. Of course there were a few bugs but the crew made it all work rather seemlessly. I would especially like to thank Matt and his wife for doing a great job in the score shack and they know what I mean. Thanks to everyone and I'll see you next year.
  6. I shot the stage two newbolds and hit the left one 4 times and it didn't go down. The SO stopped me and looked at the target which turned out that someone set it backwards. I got a reshoot and it went down fine as did all the others in the match. I was shooting the 9x23 w/130 gr MG.
  7. At the Nats I personally sent 15 people scrambling for a new holster. If they came to the line with the holster that they were wearing it would be a FTDR. I didn't have to give any out. I then marked a equiptment warning on their score sheets. What really burned my butt is that some of the shooters had already fired many stages and no one said a word to them. I became known as the "the holster nazis". The rule is quite clear no daylight between the belt and the holster. But everyone I caught gave me the same excuse, "I have been using the same holster for years and nobody has ever said anything to me". Its time to start enforcing the rules, good or bad.
  8. Maybe you see the FTDR as being unfair in the dumping senerio and think they should do away with the rule. Let me remind everyone that the FTDR applies to many other infractions of the rules and it gives lattitude to the SO's to bang someone not following any rule. Wearing cleats, the use of weighted mags, guns that won't fit in the box, changing capacity of your mags, and according to Bill Wilson not helping to tape and reset targets. It's a great rule and seperates us as a sport. If we want to stop the dumping we need to have a rule that states you can only make up shots after meeting the requirements of the COF. How many people would go back and make up their shots that they thought didn't feel right.
  9. I am with Mike on this one. The rule states you can't dump. However the shooter will tell you that "It didn't feel right". The only way to avoid dumping is to make a rule that there will be no make up shots until the course requirements are fulfilled. Then see how many people go back and make up hits. I was at a match recently where the course of fire was two barrels 10 yards apart and two targets at 10 yards off the end of each barrel. The shooter had to fire one shot then run to the other barrel, then run back and fire a shot and run back and forth until they put three in each target from each barrel. When the shooter was all done he put a couple extra shots in each target from the last barrel and was given a proceedural. It was a Vickers stage and insted of making the shot up at the left barrel he waited till he got to the right barrel and finished all six shots. Find that one in the rules. As a note, I two have worked at many Nationals and have seen the dumping, its an impossible call. If one shooter was issued the FTDR then every shooter that did the same should have been hit with it and every CSO should have been watching on their COF and made the same call. To avoid reloading is one thing however everyone has to reload somewhere they just choose where they are going to. That leads to my final point. Scripted reloads and engagement. Its about time that the walk thru was simplified. Shooter will start here, on the buzzer engage all targets with the # of shots required and reload where necessary using cover if available and engage per IDPA rules. Any Questions?
  10. No, it seems normal. It's bigger in the rear than the mouth by .002.
  11. I am in the process of building 2 open guns on STI frames. I decided to go with STI TruBore barrels. The only difference between the guns is that one has a Les Baer slide and the other has a Caspian Slide. Both barrels were short chambered and I reamed them both to 38 super with a 38 Nonte reamer. Now for the problem One gun functions great but the other locks up when you fire a major or minor load. The shell actually locks itself into the chamber after being fired. I actually have to drop the mag and hold the slide tight with one hand and hit the frame pretty hard forward to get it to release. When I get the case out there are no scratches or bulges. I measured the case and it has a slight taper to it. I measured the chamber and it also has a slight taper(.002) from the front of the chamber to the rear. With a bore light I can see no ridges or irregularities in the chamber. I am ready to toss the barrel and start from scratch. Any Ideas?
  12. Bill, I'm looking for the same thing and thats where my quest took me to the 9mm case. The shorter rounds are easier to load in a moonclip gun. I think all 9mm,38super and 357 barrels are the about the same bore and can shoot any of the 355,356,or357 bullets. I verified this with Will Shuemen(sp.) The bigger diameter bullets give the best accuracy from what I've found. I tried the .357 in my 9mm and 9x23 pistols and they worked great. I have not yet tried them in the revolvers but I will be doing that. Let me know how you make out. I'm currently playing with a 686 super, 646 .40, and a 625 .45. I like the smaller l framed guns but I'll play with the n frame and see if I can get used to it. Joe
  13. Well I shot an IDPA match last night and the gun performed flawlessly. As far as I can tell in IDPA it is a kin to shooting 40's out of the 610. All your doing is running a shorter cartridge using the same gun and moonclips. I asked that question to HQ and they told me it was OK to run 9x23's out of the 686 gun. The only class in IDPA that has a quota on the number of guns made is SSP. What I was saying is that the 9mm shells fit the moonclips better than the 38 super and 9x23. I would like a K frame better but in light of no gun made this gun seems to be the answer for now. You can use lost cost ammo and get it anywhere. Also I just shot it at 25 yards and it held a 2" group, perfect for Combat shooting.
  14. How is this a silly question. The gun shoots one hole groups at ten yards with the 9mm loads. Since you can fire 38 specials out of a 357 mag and 40s out of a 610 10mm and 44 specials out of a 44 mag revolver, then Why not a 9mm out of a 38 super gun especially since they head space off the moonclip. I was wondering about chamber erosion and things like that. Is there any harm to the gun or safety concerns that anyone knows about?
  15. Has anyone tried using 9mm's in their 38 supers. I tried in mine and it works great, all I had to do was open the rear of the chamber a little bit to aid extraction. With all the people crying for S&W to make a 9mm wheel gun you think S&W would make a 2 caliber gun. The TK solid moonclips hold the 9mm's better than the supers.
