  1. Limited-I was 31? Prodution-Maybe 33? This would have been 2002/2003, shooting mostly 99-xx classifiers. Joined USPSA in 2000.
  2. Lots of good suggestions already. Depending on your finances right now, maybe buy the open gun you want AND get this one repaired. Use this high mileage gun as a backup . Or do it in reverse order; fix this gun and shoot it while the new gun is being built
  3. I did not see anything specifcally about putting a dot on a revolver, other than the maybe ability to maybe shoot it in L10 w/ a dot. I didn't drill real deep on revolver specific stuff, though.
  4. "Master the gun not a credit card" should absolutely be a bumper sticker or tshirt or meme or something.
  5. The more I read on this issue here and elsewhere, my general observation the bottom line is "I want to shoot a 2011 with a dot in 9mm." Bottom line, full stop. They don't want to shoot Open minor, and they sure as heck don't want anyone shooting Major in this division. Everything else is just obfuscation. "Nils did this" and "40 is dead/dying" and 'My $3000 2011 won't give me an advantage" are all just rationalizations. *I* want to do what *I* want to do and *I* want a safe space to do it. And although *I* am not competitive, *I* am more comfortable shooting against plastic guns than shooting against people who shoot major.
  6. I think there is fundamental disagreement as to the "the point" is of LO. Lots of self serving/circular arguments run out of gas because there's no concensus on what the point or purpose it.
  7. Agreed with most everything already posted. I see IDPA as a racetrack with speed bumps. I see USPSA as a racetrack with a little bit of water on the curves.
  8. Finding factory 1.18 minor(!) ammo might be tricky. By tricky I mean "almost certainly impossible." I bought some Atlanta Arms stuff years ago that although billed as major did not make pf. I'm surprised that your gun dislikes factory length ammo; I've owned a handful of .40 Sstk guns over the years and shot mostly factory length ammo.
  9. Let me rephrase; after this thing becomes "provisional" there will always be a place for SA guns; whether they call it LO or CO or something else.
  10. Absolutely agreed. Once it's "provisional" it is definately here to stay.
  11. A little bit off topic. When Dave Thomas retired I was somewhat interested in the position. I spoke at length(!) to him and a long time BoD member about the position and the overall organizational climate. Then, and now, I really wonder how this tiny non-profit can have so much weird drama. Get your minutes out in a timely fashion. Have enough porta potties at your flagship event. Manage the money FFS. A deficit? Seriously? Don't use the org credit card for personal stuff. I could go on and on but it's disgusting. It's a great sport but a crummy .org.
  12. Agreed on needing to have one built. Another recommendation for Benny Hill. A 6 inch gun needs a competent builder for it to feel right.
  13. I wish they would announce that formally/publicly.
  14. "I think it rounds you out." Good stuff absolutely agree. One thing that has hurt me is my forays into non-popular divisions. I'm paddling around in the shallow pools of Production, Sstck, and L10 feeling pretty good. Good stage breakdown, good hard skills, etc. I'm roughly comparing myself to the various hicap divisions to the extent that's possible. BUT while I was swimming in the kiddie pool, the overall talent in Open/CO/L was greatly increasing. @shred I've noticed that when I get back into a high talent division that I might feel like "I'm all caught up now" it turns out I'm nowhere near. For me, it is starting to become age related.
  15. Agreed to all of the above, BUT...switching divisions from time to time can keep things fresh. Particularly shooting SStk or Production I found my skills got stale very quickly. Switching every month? Nope. Switching for an entire season? Not neccessarily a bad thing. If you are concerned about burning up your favorite gun you'd probably best be served by....buying a second one. Couple ways to approach that; some will have a match gun and a practice gun, some will have A Gun and then a Backup Gun.
  16. How long does it normally take to post BoD minutes?
  17. 16 years has GOT to be a record.
  18. Well at least once we get the BoD minutes this will all be resolved once and for all and to never ever come up again.
  19. For me it's Getting Older and Reflecting. I don't feel that I truly understand some things still. The other side of the coin for me is that when I was "young" or younger, it's not like I was an idiot. Some things are only "understandable" with a large enough data set. For me, a lot of life is context. There are times when I wish I had taken a different career path. But then I remind myself that 21 year old me would have HATED that, so,, at THAT time in my life that would not have been a good job.
  20. I'd be very curious to see the actual no-kiddin' results from the USPSA survey. Not edited, not curated, the raw data. Would also like to see the comments that people made.
  21. Probably NOT the case but some folks with .40 or 9mm singlestacks will use very/overly light recoil springs which can also cause this.
  22. An interesting thought. Now that Production is dead-ish, maybe that provides an opportunity for a reshoot on the Division.
  23. I've shot an embarrassing amount of L10 over the years; I've found oddball guns that would be "perfect" if only I made this little tweak. That tweak made them illegal for Production. So, a fair amount of L10. My newly discovered cataracts might be making me a dot guy, so L10 with a dot just might be weird enough for me to shoot it. Re: benefiting the org, or whether there's a need for it.......color me confused.
  24. Yes. What this guy said. I will be stealing the phrase "low effort shooter" too.
  25. I historically have had access to lots of .40 factory ammo, and shot limited for a long time, so .40 made sense to me. If not for the above I'd do .45 All Day Long. So many more gun options. 200gr .45 at about 850fps would be sweet.
