Are any of our pro shooters here involved in the reliability testing of the JP5? Can you please tell us how that is going?
-
I just keep reminding myself how glad I am that they are so diligent at ensuring high reliability before they release a product. It's getting really hard to wait but I think it is going to be a great gun that I will shoot tens of thousands of rounds out of for years to come.
March has arrived, and so we wanted to reach back out to all of you eagerly watching for that shipping notification on your JP-5™. In the January update, we used that dangerous phrase “barring anything unforeseen” while honestly expecting to be shipping rifles at this point. That leads directly to another phrase about how “the best laid plans of mice and men oft go astray.”Cutting to the chase, the production schedule for the JP-5™ barrels stretched further than we were promised last month. That has pushed out our internal timetable again. While we have the parts in the building to start production, we need more time to complete our quality assurance testing. This step is just non-negotiable. As much as we want to get these rifles out to you, we need to get the round counts and testing in before we’re confident these rifles will meet our standards. The JP-5™ has been one of the biggest new projects we’ve launched in years. All the testing so far is looking good, and we’re confident in the road ahead, even if it’s a little longer than we’d hoped. We know you’re eager, and we’ve heard from many of you. All we can ask is that you sit tight a little longer. We can all remember some of the crash-and-burn releases over the last decade or two in the firearms industry. We guarantee that the JP-5™ will not be one of them and will be well worth the wait. Thanks again for your patience. -

Quick update - Went out to sight in for slugs the other day. I've made a couple of changes to this 1) Added a modified choke by SGM, 2) Changed out the stock to a Magpul Fixed Carbine stock, and put the SwampFox Kingslayer on top instead of the Vortex (just didn't like looking through a tube while swinging the gun.
From old stash - Wolf Performance 7/8 oz 1400 fps slugs, and Fiocchi 12SLUGLE 7/8 oz 1300 fps. Both performed well in my Benelli M2. Wolf slugs did well beside beating me up a little when shot from support. 50 yds snaps were fun, the MGM B/C zone target rung loudly everytime. Fiocchi was another story, I've never had any of them hung up at the M2 ejection port, but all 20 failed to properly extract and eject. Bad/cheap hull construction I learned later through Patrick. Now I know why they were so cheap back then when you can buy an 80 rounds can for 55 bux ! I didn't bother doing accuracy testing at 100 yds at this point since I need to rethink what to use for low recoil slugs.
00 Buck - 9 pellets patterned into a 20" radius at 25 yds. #7 and 8 birdshots - Patterned into a 24"-ish radius at 25 yds. All impacts were at point of aim. I think the Modified choke is good to go.
The SwampFox made it through but I need to swap out the green for red reticle. Many people raved about green color RDS but for me red is much better in bright sunny days.
In summary I'm liking this Gen12 shotgun!
Pacman, in my area the Fiocchi low-recoil slugs have become the standard for 3gun and I am not sure what I would run if I didn't use them. Have you figured out any good alternatives? I wonder what Mr. Kelley is running?
I am getting ready to order the Gen12 upper but a little worried about slugs.
Thanks

Hey guys thanks for the comments, I really do love the pistol. I do agree that I probably could have made the grip work by lightly sanding off the pricklys. In hindsight, maybe that is what I should have done. I was afraid of messing up something expensive and honestly I underestimated how much it would cost to replace the grip. When SV gave me the quote I already had my mind made up and just did it. Anyway, my loss is your gain and if I can make up a few bucks on the old one it will help.
Fowlmouth, thanks for the advice about fitment on a STI--I wondered about that.

Guys this grip was too aggressive for me and I had Infinity put on a less aggressive one. I am thinking about putting this grip up for sale but I have no clue what it is worth. I am not trying to squeeze out every last dollar, I am just wondering what a fair price would be. The 2nd pic is the gun with the new grip. Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I've been using these. They seem to work really well so far. They keep my arms cooler than being in direct sun.

That link isn't working for me but I am interested in anything that will keep me cooler. What is it?

Qore Performance sleeves with cold pack inserts.
Those look interesting. Have you been using these? How well do they work? Do they make you feel noticeably cooler?

"Great option for 3 gunners, I had never heard of this. What are my chances of convincing Infinity to integrate this into a new build that they haven't started working on?"
"zero"
If you get one with the set screw adjustment, its simple enough that you can switch out the Infinity safety to the LSI safety yourself.
Then you could always use the Infinity safety for USPSA and the LSI automatic safety for 3 gun or Steel Challenge.
Bill
Thank you Bill for the good thread and for the helpful response.

Weight difference between the X-Products and D60?
26 ounces for my skeletonized X products drum and
20 ounces for the D60
-
Can it be kept loaded?
Red
From the directions "It is not necessary to download the D-60 for long term storage. It is designed to be left loaded without any loss of function or degradation"

as is typical with Magpul the quality of construction seems great. It feels very sturdy and rigid. I just finished loading 60 rounds into it. It is great to get so many rounds into such a small package.
Is the video I posted above viewable? It seems odd to me that they did not make sure that it was compatible with a receiver as common as Seekins.

I am guessing that a similar brown truck is delivering or has already delivered mags to many of you but I have not seen much online so I thought I would post.

Nope no Tin coated mags came with my DVC.. I sent the mags off to get them coated... while waiting for the gun.... will shoot it tomorrow in a steel match.... will report how it goes...
cecil, the blaster looks fantastic! Congratulations! May i ask a few more questions about the TiN? Where did you get it done? Does it provide any reduced friction advantage or is it just an aesthetic improvement? Thanks

I know my pics aren't the best. I just snapped them with my cell phone. I am hoping they are good enough that you can get a size reference.
This is the new DP Pro next to an RMR. This is an awkward pic since the RMR is on a rifle. I prefer not to use RMRs on pistols as the lens size is too small for me and it is too easy for me to lose the dot. However, I love using them as a backup optic for close targets on my rifles as I never lose the dot as long as I have a cheek weld.
Anyway, you can see that the DP Pro has significantly more lens area than the RMR
Can I ask what the mount is on the RMR? I want to run the same set up
T
That RMR mount is from JP

Hello: Use a Dawson Para base pad on the STI 170mm tube. You may have to use the Arredondo spacer to control the last couple of rounds so you don't get a salt shaker. With the Glock you can use the 30 round mag with a Arredondo base pad. If I can remember it will hold 36 rounds. Thanks, Eric
Thanks everyone, the information is thread has been super helpful for me. I am going to try to build the mag as described by Eric. Dogtired, good find on that block mag, I am going to pick one of those up as well.

I shoot my 2011 pistol in "outlaw" 3gun Open matches and most of the time no one cares how long the mags are. Sometimes I shoot a glock with a 33rd mag. I would really like a 2011 mag that will hold more than 30 rounds. Are there any options for this?

That is awesome. JP says they have the parts to build our guns but they are just completing their quality assurance testing. So I am just wondering how that is coming along?
