  1. I thought he was a member on this forum. I do recall having a private conversation with him years ago, but now I can't find any trace of him.

  3. Years ago when I started doing 1911 trigger work, I went with the Powers jig. I didn't like it because I wasn't getting even cuts on the primary angle. I took Bob Marvel's class, and all I use now is his jig. I sold my Powers jig. Maybe there was just something wrong with the one I had because a lot of people recommend Powers.
  4. I've been thinking about trying stainless steel media. What is your experience with this? Has anybody used this in a regular tumbler (without water/soap)? Are there issues with the plastic tumbler holding up? How do you clean the media? What do I need to know? Thank you.
  5. I learned the hard way that Federal primers are very soft. Over time one of my Les Baer Premier II pistols developed breechface erosion (~50,000 rounds). Les was quick to remedy the problem. If my memory is correct, he drilled the firing pin hole to accept a 45 firing pin and that saved the slide. I wouldn't use Federal primers with Les Baer pistols. CCI primers have been the hardest in my experience. I've always considered Winchester primers to be intermediate in hardness, but I do not have any data on this.
  6. We're having a discussion about sweeping on another thread. What are your thoughts on this?
  7. I agree with you. That's why I mentioned the "during a course of fire" and "loaded firearm" verbiage from the rulebook. If the course of fire is over and the firearm is no longer loaded, is it still considered sweeping if you are checking the barrel for a squib? This type of situation could conceivably lead to an argument or disagreement with match staff on how the rules are interpreted.
  8. One of the surgeons in town presented a case at our weekly morbidity and mortality meeting. A woman was kicked by her horse and ended with a colostomy bag. That sucks, right? A couple of years ago I took care of a horse jockey. While he never had a horse injury, he was in South America riding his bicycle. The chain slipped off, he crashed, the handle bars got him right in the gut and his bowels popped out. I'm not sure which is worse. Having your bowels pop out or being in South America when it happens.
  9. The rule on this appears to be open to interpretation. The language of "during a course of fire" or "loaded firearm" makes me wonder if these rules apply when the course of fire is over or the gun is unloaded. Language such as "at any time" would make more sense to me.
  10. Sounds to me like this zip tie idea is the best way around all this nonsense.
  11. The only exemption for sweeping is 10.5.5.1, but rule 10.5.5 specifically states “during a course of fire”. Does the definition of sweeping change when the course of fire is over? 10.5.6 refers to a “loaded firearm”. What happens if the pistol is unloaded? Certainly a pistol with the slide locked back, magazine out, chamber empty would not meet the definition of a loaded firearm. Im not sure the rules are clear cut on this.
  12. If the slide is locked back, magazine is out and no round in the chamber, is it a big deal to slide a pencil down the barrel? I get where you’re coming from. Maybe you could hold the pencil with something other than your fingers? I carry a multi-tool in my bag. Im not sure on how the rules apply to what I’m suggesting.
  13. Why not just lock the slide back and run a pen or pencil down the barrel? i get the whole idea of a zip tie, but that’s just one more thing for me to remember to bring.
  14. Jack, I just sent you a Private Message. I look forward to hearing from you. Warm regards, Chris
  15. This is another example for why I am the last one on the range when it’s my turn to shoot.
  16. Don't eat while shooting. Wash your hands. Don't sweep brass.
  17. These are the things I've seen: 1) A competitor still down range pasting targets when the next shooter was about to start. I'm always the last guy on the range when it's my turn to shoot. I make sure the range is clear. I don't rely on anyone else to do this for me. 2) ND at the start and round just missed his foot 3) IDPA State Match in Michigan. RM checked all equipment at registration and found two loaded guns. 4)I saw a guy at the safe area pull his slide back and a round fell out. He had no idea it was in there. 5)Open gun fell out of the holster. Round #1 went down range. The gun spun around and sent round #2 at the spectators. 6)A guy walked down range at an indoor range to get his equipment as I was shooting a stage. 7)I was asked to work on a gun that had a trigger job done by the previous owner. Trigger pull was about a pound. The sear was filed into a point and hammer hooks were way too short. 8)Handling guns outside the safe area/ammo in the safe area 9)Guns going full auto or doubling/tripling 10)Squibs and the shooter didn't know what had just happened 11)firing pin hits the round and doesn't go bang, but instead, the slide flew off the frame. Shooter picks the slide up and looks down the barrel. I explain to him that a delayed detonation could have resulted in his death. 12)A friend of mind covered the ejection port with a hand during unload and show clear. Ejector hits the primer and detonates the round in his hand. 13)And lastly, the guys that like to holster their guns really fast.
  18. I really appreciate this! I never expected to recognized in this way, and I am truly grateful. Thank you everyone for your kind words. Chris Martin
  19. I started this thread over eleven years ago, and I still find it amazing how much positive impact this thread has had for a lot of people here. I greatly appreciate the feedback and kind words shared with me over the years. Every so often I will receive a private message asking for advice or to just share an experience. I do enjoy hearing from people that appreciate my help. I'll never ignore you, and I'll always do my best to help someone out. Because I have been victimized so many times by malpractice attorneys, I will no longer post medical advice on this forum. I am happy help people privately though. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me. This forum has been wonderful to me in many ways, and I am happy to pay it forward in any way that I can. Thank you, Chris Martin, MD
  20. I have decided Brian Enos' forum is not really an appropriate place for me to provide free medical advice. Please take these matters up directly with your Doctor.
  21. My wife and I ordered a treadmill from fitnessblowout.com. I started having trouble reaching customer service, got suspicious and did an Internet search on the owner, Jim Rosen. I found hundreds of complaints and decided to cancel my order. He offers a 60 day money back satisfaction guarantee. He became quite angry with me and started sending me aggressive e-mails and text messages. He also targeted my wife with harassing text messages in the middle of the night. I filed a dispute with my credit card company, and we filed a police report to stop the harassing text messages at 1:30am. Three days ago I received a phone call from a collections agency demanding payment. I do not have the treadmill in my possession and I cancelled my order almost a month ago. How would you handle this situation? Edited for spelling
  22. In three days, we have raised over $14,000 dollars! 152 people have donated and my nephew's link has been shared on social media 876 times. Thank you again to everyone that has helped.
  23. In just over a day, we have raised $7,410 dollars, and his link has been shared 573 times. For all of you that have donated, I want to express to you my deepest and most sincere THANK YOU!
