  1. I wonder how a hard chromed Les Baer would do brand new.
  2. I think think that knowing what a squib round sounds like should be a requirement before becoming an SO.

Travis, I do have chrono date. The rounds make just over power factor for CDP, but I can't remember if I shot those rounds through my Les Baer or my G21??? Chris
  4. Rhino, you made a great point. I went to the Detroit International Auto Show yesterday. A group of 12 guys went including two LEO's- both were Michigan State Police Officers. At the end of the day, and after I got to know both of them a little better, I told them this story. One of the LEO's responded with indifference. The other was quite opionated regarding the matter. His response was basically," I will disarm anyone and everyone that I know to be carrying" I believe his opinion was based more out of fear and a desire to control the situation/environment. He is apparently worried that a legally licensed and carrying individual may somehow loss control of their emotions and do something stupid. He just doesn't trust anyone that is carrying- regardless of whether or not they are doing so legally. He was definetely of the mindset that only the police should carry. Chris
  5. I received an e-mail from IDPA Headquarters. Apparently, they are going to give us the opportunity to give them feedback before making the rules final-but we only have a few days left. Isn't this what we have all been waiting for? Has anyone e-mailed them, and what was your recommendation? Chris

spd522, I have been using WST for about a year now. The load I have is great, but it's dirty. I am currently using 4.6 grains, a 230 grain RN bullet, Federal primers, OAL 1.246" and standard crimp. The load was given to me by a friend that I shoot with. I like it because it's accurate and soft, but it has been really dirty. I know a lot of people use WST that haven't had a problem with it. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Chris
  7. One of the things I really like about this forum is the fact that multiple people can disagree on a topic, but not get nasty. It is refreshing to have a discussion in which people disagree about something and not resort to name calling, etc. When I posted this topic, I didn't expect it to spur so much interest. I greatly appreciate all that responded. There are many ideas/opinions that I hadn't thought of, and it really has me scratching my head. I guess I can't say that I disagree with anyone. On the other hand, if a LEO gives you an order, the smartest thing to do is obey. I certainly didn't mind being disarmed, but it was unnecessary. One of the things that really bothers me is the thought of someone handling my sidearm that doesn't understand it. A cocked and locked 1911 shouldn't be handled by anyone not trained to do so- no matter who they are. The LEO that took my pistol from me didn't do anything dangerous, but it still makes me nervous. Chris
  8. I appreciate the responses from everyone. I think Little Bill summed it up the best with his first post. I didn't have a problem being disarmed by the LEO. There are a lot of fine details that were omitted from the story just to keep it readable. First, Angelo went in the house while I was on the phone with his wife. As I was telling her to call the police, my friend Angelo was on his way in the house. At some point in the the conversation with police, Angelo took over the conversation inside while I was outside. Angelo told police that I was carrying. The dispatcher then assumed that the man in question was being held at gunpoint. I left out the part about three squad cars showing up. In fact I was asked by the officer if I brandished my pistol or told him I was armed. Who the heck knows what was relayed to those officers. I think the key issue here is officer safety. No one likes to be dominated or told what to do- especially if they aren't doing anything wrong. But until the situation is sorted out, I don't have a problem with being cooperative with the police. If he felt it necessary to disarm me, I certainly wouldn't advocate escalating the situation by arguing with police. I could have just not told anyone I was carrying..........Perhaps they never would have found out. But why not just do the right thing since I have nothing to fear or hide?
  9. My friend Angelo and I were at work tonight planning a trip to a conference this weekend when I received a 911 page to my house. I called home, and my wife explained that Angelo's wife was trying to get ahold of him- he had left his pager at home and his cell phone was turned off. Apparently, Angelo's wife caught a man staring in their home through a window- approximately 20-30 feet from the house. Angelo and I immediately drove over there. While Angelo drove I called his wife on the cell phone to find out what was going on. Two minutes later we arrived and intercepted the individual outside of his home. While still on the phone with Angelo's wife, I told her to call the police. The police were there within five minutes. I immediately disclosed that I was carrying a pistol concealed. The officer asked me where it was and proceeded to disarm me. The man was questioned, checked for warrants, etc. and sent on his way. As it turns out, the man was waiting for a ride because he had just finished some sort of DUI class across the street. Since he technically wasn't on the property, the police told us there wasn't anything more they could do. The police officer returned my pistol and left. This was the first time I have ever encountered a situation like this. Since I am originally from Illinois- a state notorious for police officers that are anti-gun and less than cordial, it was nice to have a positive experience with the police in Michigan. Chris

Monster, Are you using a 230 grain bullet? Fossil, What OAL are you using? Thanks guys, chris
  12. Steve, I stumbled across this topic while doing a search for something else. I debated whether or not to post, but the exact same thing happened to me several years ago. I used to cycle in rural areas. One day, out of the blue, I heard what sounded like a horse. I looked over and saw a huge rottweiler chasing me. I think he was probably playing, but who the hell knows or wants to find out. I took off harder than I had ever before. Needless to say, it pissed me off and still gets me irritated to this day. Chris
  13. Dan, Thanks for your post. There should be no limit to the number of posts regarding this type of occurrence. Posts like this remind all of us to be safe when reloading.
  14. George, I have received two automated e-mails from CNN, but no information regarding the transcripts from that particular episode. I apologize for not being more help. Chris
  15. I have a glock 21 set up for CDP. I haven't found anyone that makes a brass magwell for a G21. However, JP Enterprises makes a nice aluminum magwell that will fit into the box. If you go that route, you won't need an extened base plate. Tom Novak is working on a SS magwell that will be IDPA legal. I've e-mailed him a couple of times............. Hope that helps, Chris
  16. George, I have been searching Larry King's transcripts for about an hour with no luck. I sent them an e-mail requesting information regarding that particular show. I will post some information if/when I get it. Chris
  17. I appreciate all that replied. Some thoughts represented angles/ideas I hadn't thought of. The above quote did disturb me however. To me, it's not about being sad or unfair. It's about respect, loyalty, committment, dedication and honor of those that protect us. You can make whatever excuse you want, the fact is, our soldiers deserve better. Nik, I agree with you 100%. Our system is much better. Our body armor is better. Medics are better trained........... I was only trying to relay my disgust for how some soldiers are being treated. Several comments were made with regard to the media. Obviously the media is liberal, they have their agenda, etc..... The only point I was trying to make is that our soldiers are in Iraq, getting hurt or killed, and some of them are getting screwed over.
  18. A few days ago, I saw an episode of Larry King Live. It was a story about a U.S. Soldier that lost most of his left arm after a road-side bomb detonated near the truck he was in. To show their appreciation for his service, our military sent him a bill for $6,000 dollars (which included a fee for a lost sleeping bag). I can't believe it. Because the story made national news, the military made the bill disappear. This never should have happened in the first place! Tonight on one of the major networks (ABC,NBC,CBS??), there was a story about a soldier that returned home to find out that he had been laid off from his job. Why is this happening? It's really starting to get me pissed off. Can anyone tell me how it is that our soliders are in Iraq fighting without body armor? If anyone disagrees with me, I'll happily refer you to the most recent article in the Journal of the American Medical Association detailing the horrific battle wounds that many of our soliders are dealing with.
  19. Steve, I have a BarSto for my G21, but after reading the rule book, I'm not entirely sure that it is legal for IDPA. The only issue I have had is reliability. I have found that with the factory barrel the function of the gun is more reliable. Chris
  20. If you aren't mechanically inclined, and you get frustrated easily, stick with the 550. Just my 2 cents.
  21. I have been interested in getting a Sidearmor, but I was told that they are no longer legal for IDPA. Is there any truth to this?
  22. I am also interested in VV 310 data as I just bought some. I will be using a 230 grain round nose. SVI4ME, what OAL are you using, and have you put your rounds through a chrono. I am shooting CDP and have to make 165 PF. Thanks
  23. tnek, I would do a search on eBay and look for finished auctions. That will give you the best idea as to what it is worth. chris
  24. Vincent, There is a lot of information here about using case lube. I use Hornady One Shot now, and I'm very happy with it. Basically, I just throw some brass in a cardboard box. After spreading the brass out evenly on their side, I give them a little spritz. It doesn't take much. Also, when I'm done loading, I forget about the lube- just leave it on the case. I've never had a problem. Chris
