  1. My four month old nephew has been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type I. This is a terminal genetic condition, and he is not expected to survive beyond a year. My wife set up a fundraiser to help care for Isaac in the coming months. http://www.gofundme.com/agbytg Thank you, Chris Martin
  2. probably was a bad idea to post this one.
  3. on second thought..............
  4. Incidence of colon cancer in North America is between 50-55 per 100,000 people. The NCI's (National Cancer Institute) definition of premalignant means a lesion is likely to turn into cancer.
  5. We just admitted a 60 year-old man to our service with an obstructing colon cancer and mets to his liver. He put off his colonoscopy despite having a strong family history of colon cancer. edit: increased font size
  6. Yesterday morning at our weekly morbidity and mortality conference, another surgeon presented a patient that died in the operating room. He put off his screening colonoscopy, and at the age of 53, a colon cancer was discovered with a softball-sized metastasis in his liver. This surgeon attempted to resect this segment of liver, bleeding began, the patient arrested, and after 90 minutes of CPR, the patient was pronounced. Like Dave said above, don't put this off. A colonoscopy could save your life.
  7. I've been here ten years. This is the best forum on the internet. You guys are awesome!
  8. I've been thinking about joining lifelock.com after a good friend of mine had his identity stolen. The nightmare he has gone through has my undivided attention. Do any of you guys have any experience with identity theft and/or prevention? Are there any other service providers out there that provide protection against identity theft other than lifelock.com? I did a cursory google search and found a Wells Fargo service and another service called identityguard.com. I spoke to a lifelock customer service representative and wasn't that impressed. I asked for some basic statistics on identity theft and she informed me they didn't have those numbers, but...."with increasing technology, it's a real threat". Then she offered me a free 60-day trial and a free paper shredder. Sounds legit to me, right? I don't want to make a decision based on paranoia. At over $400/year, I am looking for a more information before I shell out this kind of money. I did come across a news article stating that a lot of identiy theft can be prevented by simply calling all three credit bureaus and putting a "freeze" on your credit for a small fee. What do you guys think? edit: spelling

    Lawyer Jokes

    Q. What is the difference between a catfish and a lawyer? A. One is a scum-sucking, bottom-feeding scavenger. The other is a fish.

    Lawyer Jokes

Let me hear your favorite lawyer jokes. I'll go first. What's the difference between a dead dog in the road and a dead lawyer in the road? There are skid marks in front of the dog. What do you throw a drowning lawyer? His partners.
  11. Mark, Dan is mostly right, but with some added points. There are some kind of polyps which are more worrisome, and I wouldn't recommend going 5 years before the next scope. The size and type of polyp influences what should be done. If you have no family history of colon cancer and no abnormalities on your colonoscopy done 7 years ago (e.g., polyps), you shouldn't need another colonoscopy until a total of ten years has elapsed since your last one. If you haven't heard from your GI doc, you should call and clarify that your last endoscopy was normal. I've seen people slip through the cracks, but it's not that likely. There are some other abnormalities which require more frequent screening. If everything was normal on your colonoscopy done 7 years ago and you have nothing lurking in your gene pool, you should be o.k. for three more years.
  12. This image was taken this morning in our endoscopy suite of a 58 year-old man's rectum. He waited 8 years too long. Now, he'll likely end up with a permanent colostomy.....if he is lucky. edit: picture added.
  13. It would be a lot of fun, but it's a terrible idea. You'll have lead all over your house.
  14. We all need to wish zhunter a Happy Birthday!
  15. I've loaded on the 550, 650 and the 1050. For me, the 550 has the fewest headaches. Bob's using a 550. I think I'll keep on doing the same.
  16. One could make the argument that your thread has cost them business.
  17. Grant, Just out of curiosity, how do you feel about depriming primed brass and reusing the primers?
  18. 2-5% of polyps will turn into cancer. Most of the time, they can be removed during the colonoscopy without any pain. Sometimes, the polyp can harbor invasive cancer and as long as the margins are 2mm, there is no lymphatic or vascular invasion and the cancer is well differentiated, no further surgery is needed after polypectomy. The longer you wait to have the scope done, the riskier it gets for you. I use the Movie Prep on everyone because it is safe for everyone and it won the taste test (as silly as that sounds). Plus, it does a really nice job cleaning out the colon so I can see what I'm doing. If the colon isn't prepped properly, it's like trying to find a light switch in a dark room in an unfamiliar house. It just isn't safe to do the procedure unless the bowel is cleansed. And that is the worst part of the whole thing. Once you make it through the prep, the scope part of it isn't that bad. Stop "playing the odds" with your life. That's a terrible strategy. PM me if you have any questions or concerns. I respond to everyone that asks for my help.....free of charge. Good luck.
  19. hilarious. "You catch bullets with your beard, well I catch them with my skull."
  20. For $45 bucks you can buy a conversion for the RF 100. I'm sure the dimensions are the same as a regular primer pick up tube?? Just throw on the plastic tip and you should be good to go.
  21. I'd feel better if someone from Dillon Precision would chime in and tell us how this could have happened, and more importantly, how to prevent it. I'm a little freaked out by this whole ordeal. Grant, how is your hand?
