  1. I keep hearing that from folks on this forum but I personally haven't had any problems with them. I have probably 20 PTG reamers and assorted range rods and head space guages and have used their BDL bottom metal and Stealth bottom metal for numerous builds. I think the only time they ever messed up an order was sending me the wrong head space guage for a 243LBC build. They took care of it promptly. I am sorry to hear other people are having issues and I hope you get yours resolved.
  2. I've built many rifles on the Tikka action. The only problem is that you need to buy the whole gun only to use the action and trigger. The difference in price of the complete build comes down to the difference between a custom action and trigger and the stock Tikka rifle. In other words a Defiance action and a Jewel or Timney Calvin Elite is going to cost around $1200. A complete Tikka rifle is around $650 for stainless steel. So the difference in your custom build is $550. If you already own a Tikka I would use it. If not I would get a custom action. Another problem is the aftermarket parts availability vs the Remington style action. Just my two cents.
  3. On a 458 socom its not going to be a big deal if the optic isn't perfectly level. The ranges you will be shooting won't be adversely affected by a little cant. You will start seeing a difference at longer ranges and the farther you shoot the more wind you will be dialing with elevation adjustments. Here is some good reading on rifle cant. http://www.riflescopelevel.com/cant_errors.html
  4. I think I'm going to try the Comp-Tac. Maybe it will be better.
  5. Anyone else having problems with the fit of this holster/pistol combo. I have one with the BOSS hanger and when I draw the gun the mag release hits the holster and drops the mag. It also doesn't click in very good almost like it's not made for this model. Is there a better option? Thanks, Jason
  6. I originally used the "Corey" mags from Tripp for my 40 and had some feeding issues. I sent my pistol and all magazines to Tripp and they worked their magic and sent the mags back with steel flex followers. They now hold 10 rounds and have the angled base pad to fit the box. They work great for single stack with the extra space but 10 rounds is pretty tight and might make for tough reloading. I also run the Dawson magwell so the mags are almost flush. I think these are pretty much the same mags Dawson is carrying. Good luck. If you have any problems I would call Tripp directly. They know their stuff and are really easy to deal with.
  7. +1 on the ice magwell. I put an Extreme hammer kit in with an egw mainspring for a really decent trigger pull. Good luck. SS is my new fav.
  8. I just picked up a Bushnell LRHS 3-12 for a tactical hunter build in 6.5SLR. It has a lot of features for the money and doesn't weigh 4 lbs. 10 mils/rev with zero stop a decent GAP style ret. Most precision rifle guys have a lot more power but I used it in a match recently and had no problem at 1200 yards. (seeing that is. Hitting is a whole different thing) When they come out with the 4.5-18 it may be a better fit for PRS work.
  9. Not real fond of the new "Scout-Hide" either. Lot of good info gone with the wind.
  10. DPMS steel handle with Badger latch is bullet proof

    CZ/Tanfoglio for 3gun

I was thinking either a CZ TS or a Tanfo Limited. Is there a frame size difference between the two?
  12. Which CZ or Tanfoglio would you guys recommend for 3gun. Everyone uses an STI and I just want something different. Looking at 9mm. Thanks
  13. Taken from hodgedons website using their max load data with varget. Just for a comparison. Numbers were rounded but within about 20 fps.
  14. 155 lapua scenar, .508 bc g1 @2900fps = 315.6" drop and 85.1" drift. velocity @1000yd = 1372 175 sierra mk hpbt .485 bc g1 @2700fps = 386.4" drop and 100.9" drift. velocity @ 1000yd = 1214 210 sierra mk hpbt .530 bc g1 @2400fps = .427.4" drop and 85.5" drift. velocity @ 1000yd = 1249 This is from JBM at 1000 yards with a 10mph wind full value. Just a quick comparison to show the difference between the 3. velocities are approximate. As you can see the drift between the 155 and the 210 is very close but the drop is 100 inches different. This means a lot in a tactical match where range estimation is critical.
  15. +1 for GCode I use the G-Code as well. Great holster and good retention. I recently switched over from the XST (with bail) to the OSH (without bail) for a little better draw speed.
  16. I have used the Magpul MS3 in a couple of matches and it worked pretty good. Every match is different and some will require you to start with your rifle slung while others (Ironman) have you sling your rifle on the clock. It's a good idea to practice with whatever you get and make sure you have all your other gear on. Snagging your pistol with your rifle barrel in the middle of a stage is no fun. The MS3 works good for me because I can tighten it up and run with it then loosen it up and shoot the rifle while slung. If you need to dump the rifle it's easy to unclip.
  17. Just got back from Ironman and the Prismatic was awsome. I my dial on the 300 and 400 targets on stage 3 and on the 500 yard target on stage 4a. I will post a video of it in action on a couple stages. I have measured the dot and found it to be just under 2 moa. I would say 1.5 to 1.75 moa. The thick circle is very good for close targets and the field of view is excellent. If you are going to shoot limited I'm not sure there is a better optic available right now. The only issue with the turret is remembering to turn it back down. The CDS dial is a true zero stop and has one revolution of travel. Leupold is making a new turret to match my erector. That will give my graduations to 500 yards in less than a quarter turn. It's a little coarse but we're not trying to hit golf balls at these distances.

    Colt CRX

I also have a CRP Pro and love it. I haven't done anything to it except change the comp. It's more money but it's ready to compete out of the box with a good trigger and adjustable gas block. Just my two cents. Jason
  19. The way they explained it to me is that the CDS system has a zero stop with one full turn of elevation. Therefore in order to get a dial marked for yardage to have numbers all the way around the dial they need to pic the right adjustment thread pitch. In this case is was 1/6 moa. That gave the dial 500 yards of adjustment in one turn. Only problem is that they put in a 1 moa thread pitch which would give 6 times the amount of elevation in one rotation. Took me a while to figure it out at the range thats for sure.
  20. 1 moa erector adjustment equals approximately 10 clicks at 500 yards with my loads. They turret Leupold supplied took 56 clicks or so to get to the 500 mark. Basically one full revolution to get to 500. It's kind of ugly but I just turned down the generic turret, blackened it and re-marked it with my values out to 500. Shot it a match today and it seamed to work fine. Only shot to 300 though but I did adjust the 3 clicks just to see how it would be in a match.
  21. I just talked to Leupold and they think they put the wrong erector adjustment in. It should be 1/6 moa and it is actually 1 moa. As usual they will take care of it. It will have to wait until after Ironman unfortunately. Jason
  22. Does anyone else have a CDS dial on their Prismatic DCD? I just got mine back from Leupold and I'm having a few problems. I will be calling them tomorrow and I'm sure they will take care of any problems. Just wanted to see if anyone here has had a similar experience with the Prismatic. I sent all my load info off to Leupold for the turret and they turned it around in about a 10 days door to door. Cost with tax was around $160. So here is the problem. The turret is marked from my zero of 200 yds to 500 plus 4 extra lines. The result is 500 plus yards of elevation with one turn. In order to accomplish this I assume they changed the elevation erector thread to give an acceptable distance with one turn. The turret is marked 1/6 moa. That would be great except I believe my thread is more like 1 moa. What this equates to is when the turret is set to say, 3 which would be 300 yards, I am actually shooting just over the gong at 600 yards. I did the ballistics on bulletflight for a 1 moa dial and my click values were on out to 600 yards. So as it is marked there are 56 clicks to get to 500 yard. Today I dialed 14 clicks to get to 600 yards. Jason
  23. I appreciate all the great info guys. I just ordered a couple of 4 round pinwheels to try out. Jason
  24. Thanks for the info guys. Jason
