Thank-you for the feedback I ended up getting some DG Bullets Sized to .356. I haven't got a chance to work up any loads yet but I am certainly looking forward to it. So far the DG Bullets look great and I will post some feedback once I get some loads worked up.

So that sounds like I would be better off going with one of the coated bullets that measure in at .356 since it will primarily be shot through my Glock 17 and Glock 34? Blue Bullets I believe are .355?

I just wanted to say thank-you guys for all of your insights. It sounds like RJH and AHI hit the nail on the head that experiences vary from Glock to Glock. I definitely want to try them because of their availability, pricing and I've heard very good results on accuracy. I would opt for a few aftermarket barrels but that is just not in the cards right now. Honestly I just really want to get back out on the range and work on my skills without having to worry about running out of ammo.

I have always reloaded jacket and plated bullets for .40 and .45 ACP. I am now adding .9mm to the mix and exploring coated bullets for all 3 calibers. Mainly these will be for target practice, defensive training and maybe some competitions at some point. I will be shooting the appropriate caliber through my Glock 17, 19, 22, 34 and 41 all with stock barrels. Also in my HK VP-9, my Ruger SR1911 and Sig 1911 Tacops, P320, P226 and P229 again all with stock barrels. Specifically the Glock and HK have the polygonal rifling and this is where my confusion comes in. I have found on the websites for ACME Bullets, Blue Bullets and Precision Bullets that they are safe for use in Glocks and then I find a lot of posts saying they lead barrels and are unsafe in Glocks. So I apologize if this is a dumb question or has been asked before, I did try searching before posting but did't find a clear answer. So with that said please provide me some guidance here. Hi Joe, Thank you for your insights and that is what I have now heard and/or read a few times. It makes sense that with different length cases that would be a problem. So being that with my pistol rounds I am definitely using range brass and not going to trim and sort I will probably just stick with my current setup of seating and crimping separately with my Dillon Dies. I have a real nice skylight in my setup and can see in my cases but a few of the loads I like the best are fairly close to max such as 4.9 with a max of 5.3. As I age and my eyes grow weary, while I have no doubt I would pick up on a squib or a double charge a .5 drop would probably go right by me so I have been intrigued with the DAA Powder check that is reported to have the sensitivity to catch that. But alas, I don't think it was meant to be for coated bullets on my 550. So I think I will probably keep running as is for now and worry about the powder check when I move up to the 750. Thank-you guys you bring up some great points. I am leaning towards just giving it a try and see as I would like the added safety of a powder check and I always case gauge everything anyways. Currently I use mostly plated bullets but will probably start transitioning over to coated as the pricing is better. I have some Blue Bullets to try in .40 S&W. I also see on Blacks Bullets where they recommend separate seating and crimping. 1. We recommend separate seating and crimping dies. Combo dies can be used as long as it is verified that the coating is not damaged in the process. Pull a bullet to check coating integrity.

Yes it is just a Lee seat/crimp die. I have always loaded with a separate seat and crimp die. So I guess what I am asking is am I giving up anything with pistol rounds by combining seat/crimp into one station? Will there be any detectable difference in quality, consistency, standard deviation, OAL? Also since I have no experience with seating and crimping together whose die do you recommend?

Yes now that you mention it me too. I just started using Blue Bullets and plan on trying some Blacks.

So I have been loading on my Dillon 550b for about 7 years now. Mostly .40 and .45 and recently .9mm. So with that said I have always been very happy with my 550, it’s a great machine and has pumped out thousands and thousands of trouble free rounds. But the one thing I have always wanted to add is a powder check and lacking a 5th station that is problematic. Now I have never had a squib or a double charge on it yet because I always visually check, knock on wood, but would still like the added insurance of a powder check. So I was checking out the Double Alpha Academy Two in One Seater / Crimp die and while I have always been a strong believer in a separate seater and crimp die was thinking of giving it a try so that I could in fact add the Double Alpha Academy Powder Check. So has anyone else explored this option their 550? how is the is DAA 2 in 1 die? am I giving up anything up seating and crimping in the same station? Thanks everyone in advance for your insight. Joe

Hey Everyone I just wanted to share an update. My gun just arrived back from Ruger today, talk about amazing customer service, I had it back in less then 2 weeks. With that said they replaced the slide and the extractor. So it has a brand new slide and brand new extractor. Very impressive customer service. Thanks for all of the help. Joe

Yes I agree I would love to know exactly what was wrong and why it happened. The gunsmith at the range that looked at it thought it was firing out of battery and recommend I send it to Ruger. I tried the exact same loads in the Range's Ruger SR1911 and they fired just fine with no issues. I also tried my mags with my ammo in the rental SR1911 and still functioned fine with no brass deformity. I sent an M&P into Smith as well and they were really fast and took great care of me but as you said the notes were very vague. I will say so far Smith & Wesson and Sig have had excellent customer service, where as much as I love my Glocks they were not as good as S&W and or Sig.

Sarge, it does like like the primer strikes are off center. I contacted Ruger and they sent me a shipping label and it was delivered to them on last Thursday. So now just waiting to see what they have to say. Keeping me fingers crossed, this is one of my favorite guns. Thank-you

I checked the ejector and it's good and I don't see any obvious issues with the extractor and the weapon is not malfunctioning other than the chewed up brass, still feeds, fires and ejects fine. I tried the exact same batch of loads, the remaining 93 rounds in the rental gun, the exact same weapon, and the brass was fine, no burn marks and not damaged at all. Even tried my mag with the same loads in the rental gun and no issues whatsoever.

i was initially looking for the telltale bulge and of course didn't see it, but it looks like the mouth of the case is getting caught up under the barrel so that was what made us think of the out of battery. On the one case it matches up perfectly to the barrel. Of course the ejector makes sense so I will check it in the morning but I would be surprised if I missed that when I broke it down and cleaned it Friday night, definitely possible of course. There is an odd burn pattern on the exterior of the case on the opposite side from the deformity but I couldn't get it to show up good in pictures. Thank you I will let you know what I find tomorrow. Hopefully it's so simple and easily corrected, I love the gun, one of my favorites.

I have a Ruger SR1911 that I absolutely love and I have about 1800-2000 rounds through her so far. On my last couple of range trips it has been chewing up the brass as below and the recoil and sound seem off. I looked at with some of the staff at the range it looks like it is perhaps firing slightly out of battery. I am shooting my own reloads, 230 Gr. Berry RN with 7.1 of Power Pistol at 1.260" with CCI primers. This is a load I use regularly with no issues. I had the same thing happen 2 range trips in a row on 2 different batches of the same load, loaded on my Dillon 550 and all rounds are case gaged before firing. The weapon is cleaned and relubed after each range trip. After this happened on the first magazine of the trip I stopped firing that batch on that weapon. I then tried the exact same batch of loads on the Range's rental gun, the exact same weapon, a Ruger SR1911. The rental SR1911 fired the remaining 93 rounds without any issues. I tried my magazines in the rental SR1911 with my loads and they functioned flawlessly. The first time my SR1911 was cleaned with Slip 2000 725 and lubed per manufacturer's recommendations with Slip 2000 EWL the second range trip I completely detailed stripped the weapon, found no signs of any obvious damaged cleaned to bare metal and lubed with Militec to Ruger recommendations. I had an M&P.40 FS that I put about 2000 rounds through before selling it. I know most people love them but personally I could not shoot it consistently. One range session would be great and the next was all over the place. I loved the way it felt and looked but finally parted ways with her. Funny thing is I miss her nonetheless. Honestly though I think it was me and not the gun I just shoot Glocks a lot more. Never liked the stock trigger. Never had any function issues with it and you can't beat Smith&Wesson on their warranty. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I had the exact same problem with Xtreme .45 ACP 230 RN on my Dillon 550B. Tried both ends of the seating stem and left a ring around the bullets. It didn't have any effect on accuracy that I can tell but sure drives me crazy so I will probably the super glue trick or my Lee seating die as it doesn't do it. I did contact Dillon about custom seating stems and they don't offer that but said if enough people ask they my offer some additional shapes. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
