  1. Thanks to all for the suggestions. This is all much more complicated than what I thought it would be. I'm really just a casual shooter. I think that I'll just stick to factory loads. One more bit of advise though please. I have all of the supplies and equipment to start reloading and it's all brand new. What's the best way to dispose of it to recoup most of my investment? Gunbroker probably for most of it? What about primers and gunpowder? Is it legal to sell that to someone else? I'm sure it can't be shipped though.
  2. Thanks, that all makes sense. Except for the part about which powder they use. Wonder if I could ask them?
  3. I haven't been able to find exactly what I'm looking for. I'd like to start my reloading career by duplicating as closely as I can the Federal Champion 9mm Luger 115 gr FMJ RN. Box says 1125 fps muzzel velosity. Was able to locate some Hogdon Tightgroup and Universal powder. Hogdon has a great website where you can plug in all of the components to come up with a recipe. Except that it doesn't allow for bullet type and everyone here says that's important. Most of what they list for 115 gr bullets is either LRN or hollow points. So I need some advice please. I have CCI 500 primers and Speer 115 gr TMJ's and Precision Delta 115 gr FMJ's. The cases are various brands, commercial, once fired and polished. But I can't imagine that that matters much as long as they are in good shape and resized properly. Thanks in advance.
  4. I belong to a USPSA club that has club matches every Friday night in the basement of the range in two large rooms (purpose built for shooting). Before and after the match we all help with set up and tear down. We use plastic tarps suspended from the wire system above. All surfaces are concrete and there's a moat (really) at the rear. That has to do with capturing and controlling the lead and bullets. I am a little concerned about the amount of lead dust that we may be breathing when setting up, and particularly when taking down and folding up the tarps and sweeping up. Are my concerns justified? How much danger is there? I know that many of the members have been attending for years. This is the oldest club in the area, by far. In fact I believe it is one of the oldest USPA clubs in the country.
  5. Any very experienced shooters out there have a chrystal ball, or willing to speculate as to what the future may bring in regards to ammo and reloading supplies in general. In three months, six months, next year? I got into shooting just before all this madness began to escalate out of control. Really enjoyed it at first. But this insanity is really draining all of the fun out of it for me. I know that no one really knows, but you veterans, what do you think.
  6. Thanks, Steve RA. Will do that.
  7. DWFAN- Who would you recommend to do the work?
  8. Does having the chamber reamed affect the acuracy? I am going to reloading. No more remanufactured ammo for me. It was just something that I was trying since factory ammo was getting so hard to find.
  9. I posted earlier about the variations in case diameter between the top and bottom of my remanufactured ammunition from Precision Delta. I have since discovered that my Pointman 9 doesn't like it very much. (My Beretta works fine with it). About 60% of the rounds will not chamber.....some by a lot! I was told that my reloads would also have the same characteristic "bulges" at the bottom half of the cases, when I started reloading. OK if it's just cosmetic, but am I going to have the same problem with my rounds not fitting into the Pointman chamber? I'm hoping that I can control the process enough that the match grade barrel will have no problem accepting my ammo. I know that Lee Precision makes a FCD. Will that take care of it?
  10. How much, on average, does primer and powder cost per round or per K for 9mm & 45? Thanks!
  11. Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'm now using ESS with monovision. Jury's still out. Close my left eye and the front sight is good, close my right eye and the targets are clear, but both eyes open.....not so good. It's taking my 64 year old brain some time to sort this all out. Shot terribly at the club shoot last night. Too much new stuff to get used to at once. Next week I'll try shooting with both eyes closed. Expect to do better!
  12. Just received some remanufactured 9mm ammo from Precision Delta. The top half of the cases are smaller in diameter than the bottom half, significantly. Is that normal? Is that what my reloads will look like when I start handloading?
  13. Please excuse me if I am using the forum incorrectly, but how many times can brass be reloaded, and how do you tell how many times picked up brass from the range has been fired? Thanks!
  14. Just purchased a new Dan Wesson Pointman 9 and it states in the Owner's Manual that "The use of reloaded, "remanufactured", handloaded, or other non-standard ammunition voids all warranties". Etc., etc., etc. (The warranty for Dan Wesson is 5 years, by the way). I would really like to start handloading. Should I pay attention to this, or are they just trying to protect themselves against liability? Could they tell if I used quality materials and loaded sensibly? Really appreciate all the help for a newbe by the way!
  15. Thank you all for the reassurances. I appreciate it as I am REALLY new to all this.
  16. Concidering handloading because it's so hard to find new mfg'd. ammo now, and it's expensive. But.........can't seem to find a good source for primers and powder either. Powder Valley and Midway USA are both completely out of primers, and powder is scarce too. Makes me a little relunctant to dive right into handloading, spend all that money on equipment, and then not be able to buy the raw materials. I've read a few of the posts about which primer or powder is best, but what difference does it make if it's impossible to find? I know that this is just a temporary condition.......or is it?
  17. Is the reloaded amunition from Precision Delta good to use in my gun? Beretta 92 FS Inox (Italian). Just getting started in USPSA and IDPA.
  18. Trying to decide whether to order bifocals or seperate prescription for each eye. I see the front sight perfectly with my reading glasses and the target perfectly with my distance vision glasses. That seems like bifocals but won't I end up having to move my head to focus? Brian Enos said that he was trying mono in each, one for distance and one (the dominant) for close up-front sight. Wonder how that worked out for him? Wonder if I'd just end up running into things. This subject has probably been discussed to death, but I can't find the thread. Sorry.
