  1. Anybody have any thoughts on how often 45/70s need trimmed? What do you use?
  2. Do you find that 45/70s need to be trimmed very often? Padraig
  3. Thaks for all the great info! It looks like Dillon does not make 45/70 dies. What brand do you all like? I live in the commie state of NY and can no longer order ammo. Padraig
  4. Anyone reloading 45/70 with a Dillon 650? Any thoughts or tips. I am about to purchase a Marlin 1895 SBL Thanks, Padraig
  5. Wow, Hawaii has changed. I was there in 1968 (R&R) and it was one of the most friendly places I have ever visited. Which Island are you on?
  6. Weather here has also been crappy. Luckily I retired in mid March and therefore find it easier to squeeze in a ride or a run.
  7. After a 10 year lay off I started riding again last year. This year I bought a new Trek Domane and is sweet. At Present I am riding 4-5 days a week, between 15 & 20 miles but will soon be doing some longer rides
  8. I use the tins that McCanns steel cut oats come in. Fill it up and stick a label on the lid and they also can be stacked.
  9. Over the last two years I have lost 40 pounds. I am down to the same weight I was in the Army 1967-1969. I am 5' 10". For the last year of losing and keeping the weight off I have used Lose It, circut training, bicycling and running. Another good thing to do is portion control. Use a smaller plate and dish it out in the kitchen and carry it to the dining room. Don't put a big bowl on the table because if you are like me...... you will take two or more helpings. Also there are some very good low cal frozen food dinners available at the Super market. They make aquick and easy lunch or dinner. Good luck
  10. Never had a problem loadin Unique with my 550.
  11. I too have been using Clays. No issues on my 650. Consisently throws 5.1 grains of clays. Padraig
  12. I used to cast bullets quite a few years ago. Fun but time consuming. Still have the molds and as I am soon retiring I may have to dig them up. I can't remember what all I have but I know there is a 4 gang 452 flat nose 200 grain that always shot well. Worked good on bowling pins. Casting was fun but lubing and sizing was a pita.
  13. Thanks for answeing my question, Anachonism. As far as the legal aspects of factory ammo vs reloads, I think that while it is a factor, it is over rated. If this ammo shortage continues you can bet more and more shooters will be carrying home rolled. While I have my favorite factory ammo, I will carry it. When/if I can not get any I will carry what works. Then there are us New Yorkers that don't want the state tracking our ammo purchases under the Safe NY Act. Thanks again,
  14. Does anyone sell hydra-Shock bullets as a component? I am using as my carry ammo Federal 200 grain hrdra-shock however they are hard to find and I am getting low. Would like the ability to hand load them. I have plenty of 200gr cast swc for practice but no hydr-shock type bullets.
  15. Finally got to the range with the week old XDS. I love this gun. I was afraid I would not like it as much as my long time carry gun, a LT Officers Model. However right out of the box it was great and as a plus it is lighter and smaller. Fired mostly home rolled 200gr swc loaded with 4.1 gr of Clays but also some Federal Hydra-Shock 200 gr +P. It ate all of them no problems whatsoever!
  16. Thanks, I will keep that in mind although I am hoping I will not need a grip extension as I hate adding any size to a conceal carry pistol. A grip extension would put overall height close to my Officers Model 1911 although the XDS would still be lighter and shorter.
  17. Thanks! I think I am going to like this pistol. Just picked it up Tuesday, and will likely not get to the range till the weekend. Darn work keeps interfering with my fun! I am used to shooting a light weight Officers Model 45 so this should little gun shouldn't bother me. In the meantime I have loaded my two mags and will let them sit. I have also ordered (through Springfield an additional 5 round and the 7 round. It looks like 6 to 8 weeks to get them. Sure glad it came with two!
  18. Is It me or is loading the last two rounds in an XDS 5 round mag a real bear. I am not a new shooter and have shot a carried 1911s for many years. However a 1911 mag is easy to load. I struggle with the last two in my XDS. Do they get easier with use? Padraig
  19. I use Royal Purple Max Gear lube in the outdrive of my high performance boat. I may have to dry some on my 1911s. The stuff is really slippery. If I remember correctly 90 weight
  20. Thanks everone. I'll let you know how it shoots.
  21. Try Road Runner Sports.. They often carry discontinued shoes.
  22. Anyone shooting 200 grain LSWC through a XDS? I am picking mine up on Wednesday and all I have on hand is the 200 grain loads I use in my light weight officers model 1911. With the way things are who knows when I can get some 230 grain bullets to reload.
  23. Thanks, Mark. I'll be picking the pistol up Wednesday. I do have some factory hardball and a bunch of 200 gr reloads (4.1 gr Clays LSWC). I hope it likes the 200 gr as who knows how long it will take to get some 230 gr bullets to load.
