  1. Great review, thanks for sharing it. I am very interested in this fun in 9mm. I'm left handed with large hands. Unfortunately I am not able to find a place I can "feel" this gun. Can anyone tell me how this gun compares to the CZ Shadow target? I only shoot production and l'm looking for a good quality 2011 style pistol for around $1,200-$1,500. Thanks for your help
  2. I see a lot of good info here. However, one critical piece of the puzzle is missing. What OAL are you using?
  3. Ok, there have been some good comments and suggestions, but this is something I can change immediately if its important. I have the case lube spray from Dillon. My shooting bud that came over and helped me setup my 650 and got me going said he doesn't case lube his 9mm, he does it on rifle rifle rounds and maybe other rounds, but not 9mm. If it starts snagging on the powder die, he'll rub a little case lube on the outside of it. And that's what I've been doing. I do see that there is resistance snaggy on that powder die and if it become too noticeable, I'll lube the outside part that inserts into the case as mentioned. SO…the KEY question…do you guys feel its important that I always lube my 9mm cases before I start loading them? I try to do a good job cleaning them (tumbler 4 hours with polisher), weeding out the 380's, and just doing a quick visual (no dents, debris inside). If you say lube, what is your preferred method? I would do this just based on a youtube video. - Put my cases in a large plastic kitchen storage zip bag and spread then out. - Spray the lube across the cases like I would lightly spray painting something. - Seal the bag and mix up the cases to spread the lub. - Let sit (dry) for 15 minutes. - Put them in case feeder and start using. (great…ANOTHER step in the process!) Never had the need to lube at all for 9mm. I use a Hornady LnL with carbide die. Your occasional issue could be some bulged brass.
  4. OAL of 1.155 fits in my glock barrels fine. They pass the spin test easily. They are a little tight in the mag though. Your Glock must be short throated. Have to agree with this. I have been shooting 1.160 without any issues in my Glock.
  5. Hi Doc, I just started re-loading myself. I also started with 9mm for my Glock 17 and 26. What type of gun are you going to re-load for? If it is a Glock I can give some specifics. Check out Xtreme/Freedom for the 147 tips. Good pricing and fast delivery. Let me know if I can help. Good luck and have fun.
  6. Just ordered one from these guys for $185, free shipping too. https://www.armsunlimited.com/SIRT-Performer-Student-110-Training-Pistol-p/p-gl-rp-performer-red-red.htm
  7. Treadmills? WTH???? Guess I better get to the gym Thanks for the update, now I am wasting my work time thinking about the match. So unproductive.....
  8. To me there is nothing funnier to look at then a fat old guy with all camo on at a match. But here is why, IMO, I would not wear something like all black, camo etc. One time in band camp, no it was at a restaurant, a guy was wearing his black tactical pants with and a Fire rescue T-shirt. There was a situation where a patron was choking and someone asked the guy dressed like he was fire rescue to help. Guess what, the guy said I am not a firefighter or EMT I just wear the shirt because my brother gave it to me. I'm sorry I don't know the Heimlich procedure. Point is, don't dress like something you are not prepared to be. Unless you are a D-Bag tool.
  9. If you are experiencing pre ignition flinch (anticipation of "boom) try shooting with a .22lr pistol while shooting with your full size. Its a mental game and you will need to stop thinking about it. Also, try chewing gum and talking to yourself when pulling the trigger. Remember what Basho once said? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNVU23knqZw
  10. I am going to let you in on a secret about eye pro- More selection than you will ever need. These glasses are very adjustable and with an array of lenses. Find what you want then do an Amazon search. Most likely you will get a pair for about $8. Same protection specs or better than the stuff people are paying $80+ for. http://www.honeywellsafety.com/Products/Eye_and_Face_Protection/North_Adaptec_Series.aspx?site=/usa
  11. One think I have had the need for was a towel/rag for clearing sweat from my head and hands. I was tired of putting on in my pocket so I came up with this very useful combination of products to solve my dilemma. First, I bought the black kevlar KeyBak system; http://compare.ebay.com/like/290315023005?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar Then went with these towels on D-Rings from the gold store; http://www.amazon.com/Pack-Sterling-Silver-Microfiber-Towels/dp/B008SCR1KE/ref=sr_1_9?s=golf&ie=UTF8&qid=1381156364&sr=1-9 Cool think about these towel is a huge selection of styles, sizes and colors.
  12. One visit with the Texas Star and you will quickly see how many mags are needed :-)
  13. I just wanted to chime in about the Ruger 22/45 Lite. I just bought one last week for my wife. I love this gun as it is fun and cheap to shoot. I added a Volquartsen Trigger, Muzzle Break and a Sissy Bar for the slide. The only thing I see as a potential issue with this gun for your 5yo is racking the slide. If you are going to prep the pistol for her, then the Lite is a great gun.
  14. Hi Robert, From my limited experience it would seem that a non reflective color on the slide would be best suited for you if you are concerned about "washout". To me, it seems FO sights appear brighter when on mounted on a flat black slide. This could be attributed to the sight mounts being flat black and not contrasting with the shiny slide. Checkout the Dawson Precision sights for your HK. https://www.dawsonprecision.com/CategoryProductList.jsp?cat=SIGHT+SETS:HK+Sight+Sets I use them exclusively on my Glack and I love them. As Richard mentioned, the blade of the front sight and width of the rear will be a factor in how you perceive the washout. Best thing to do is check out other peoples setups and see what you like.
  15. Thank you all for the replies and suggestions. Dummy rounds is the trick. As Sac Law Man stated, it IS in my head and I do know this and random dummy rounds is helping. I do however install them randomly so I don't know when they are coming. It is quite amazing to see myself actually dip the gun upon when I "think" the gun is supposed to fire. I will also try the figure eight and spraying my cat with the bottle. I cant wait to break this nasty habit so I can get to "A" class.
  16. Very true. If you do see yourself wanting to compete with other versus just yourself, then get the .40 now, shoot factory ammo or find ammo loaded for competition like Atlanta Arms or Universal Ammo. Later on you can start loading your own .40.
  17. I just had the two day intermediate class with Shannon Smith a few weeks ago. Not to take anything away from Manny or Frank, but this was bar far the best competition training in Florida. Email Shannon and setup a date. He only does courses with max of 4 people so it shouldn't be too hard to get one going. It is definitely worth the time and money. PM me if you want more details of what to expect.
  18. Welcome to the best shooting place in cyber space. I am not a reloader yet, but will be soon. I am curious, how do you know that the range brass is once fired and not someones already used once/twice fired etc? Do you have a QC process to identify if the brass has been used more than once? Corey in Palm Beach
  19. Welcome aboard. I am looking to get into reloading too. How is the availability of components like primers been lately?
  20. I love friendly competition and that is why I love this sport so much. Short of loading some hots rounds for your friend, keep doing what you are doing with respect to your video. Master the draw and first shot along with the mag changes. He will not have the time invested like you do and this is where you can beat him. One big thing, don't let him in your head. As another poster stated, training with a GM is great, but if you don't follow that up with perfect practice, its all wasted time and money. Practice running and mag changes too. Lots of folks get hung up on that part. Good luck and let us know the outcome.
  21. Shooters, I am practicing my first shot after draw and I am curious, when you shoot targets (approx 7yds) are you getting sight alignment before releasing the shot or are you more or less point shooting? For me, I am at the point where I see my front sight, although I don't notice if it is aligned with the rear, and my shots at 21ft are for the most part hitting A's. Should I be training to get full sight alignment before breaking my first shot or should I master my point shoot ability?
  22. I will for sure. I hope to shoot at Markham Park with the SFPC this Thurs as long as it stops raining. I'm the tall guy, just yell Corey and that will be me.
  23. Retrieved my new G35 yesterday and since I used a high level of shopping skills, most of my new add ons arrived the same day. So guess what I did last night? That's right, I installed my new Zev fulcrum drop in trigger, Zev mag release (swapped for lefty) firing pin spring, stainless plunger, Dawson FO f/r sights, hogue slip on grip, Dawson extended base pads. Wife was curious as to why I was dry firing so much, but a quick explanation and she related it to new shoes. Only thing that did not come in yet was the Dawson magwell. Off to try it out this weekend, as long as it stop raining here in S. FL
  24. I joined a club, South Florida Pistol Club that shoots quite a lot at Markham Park. For practice I like Okeechobee Shooting Sports Okechobee and in Deerfield a new range Gun World on Powerline. I just tried out a place named Pembroke range that allows drawing from a holster. Its an old range with limited a/c but the fact I can practice drawing and shooting makes up for it.
  25. Added a Ghost Evo Elite trigger connector for my G17 production class and it was the best $35 I have ever spent. Virtually no over travel and a smooth 3-3.5lb trigger pull.
