  1. I was shooting a Tanfo for a while but switched to the Walther Q5 Match and then Q5SF when they were paying money for match wins. I liked them both but the grips are too small if you have even average sized hands. The PDP is probably better but no steel version available. I never see them anywhere now though. Everyone has either a 320 variant or a Canik. I know I sold my Walthers when they stopped paying, lol.

On the off chance I misread your tone and it wasn’t a petulant rhetorical comment.

I mis-stated. I have read the rules. But that’s not really what you meant.

I haven’t STUDIED the rules that don’t apply to me. I’ve read them but haven’t studied them.

It’s akin to reading laws as a layperson versus studying them as a lawyer.

I missed the “or” word in the decocker rules and didn’t understand the definition of manually decocking.

So why post? To understand and clarify why the rule was changed.

It’s like that with IDPA rules. I’ve read them but IANAL and appreciate the rule interpretations and discussions on the FB forum.

There are similarly unhelpful people there that you can count on to say “read the rules” no matter the discussion while others try and help.

I hope to gain enough knowledge of the application of the rules that someday I’ll sit for the RO class.

Reading the rules sometimes isn’t enough, but that’s not really what you meant I suspect.

Maybe you had a hard day or something.

Hope today is better for you!

So many things to say but I won't because you probably wouldn't even understand it.

The word decocker appears only a few times in the rulebook. Ctrl+F to find it

" A hammer is considered to be in the "hammer down" position when the hammer is placed
there by pulling the trigger while manually lowering the hammer (manually decocking)
or by activating the decocking lever if present"

I've shot IDPA a handful of times, mostly practice, one official match, and of course during my wait for the stage I study and plan out every move. Then when the buzzer sounds I fumble for magazines, hesitate on targets and ran in the wrong direction once. How the heck do I get over this hump?

I wouldn't expect you to have the intricacies of stage planning ironed out after one match. I think you are being too hard on yourself.
Come back after you shoot 50 matches and let us know if you have the same problem.

not if you are countering the finger pull with push from the thumb

I have always shot with the finger hooked but I have giant hands that make guns look tiny. This is a P10F and you can see my support hand index finger wrapped all the way around the trigger guard. Since my hands are so big if I put four fingers under the trigger guard then my pinky has no place to live and is useless in making grip. I shoot the same with my P10C, full size 1911s, SP01 and S2.

I dont think that is what most people are referring to in this thread when discussing this technique. They are talking about this

  5. One guy I only know from seeing him having traveled to matches all over as an RO.

The other guy I only know from seeing him having traveled to matches all over as a shooter.

The president position shouldn't be a $75,000 match travel sponsorship.

FWIW, Mara didn't ask me about this before she posted. I learned about the discussion this afternoon from George W. She is correct, though, there is no order of engagement on this classifier. It was not shot in a specific order at Nationals. I do agree the course description could be cleaner. Sounds like a good project--writing wsb's for all the classifiers.
