  1. Can you ship it to them and pick it up in Texas at their factory or at Another close FFL like Dawson Precision?

Gotta get a new frame as that defect is not acceptable. Surely you're not the only person in CA that has this problem, ask for a manager to sort this out.

  2. Why not infinity steel? Others are good, but micro pockets rock IMHO.

Expensive though. CK arms is $575 with magwell, mag release and mainspring housing

Have you looked at their price on the web site? If you don't get crazy price is equal, start adding extras and it jacks to 700.

Both are good, but the infinity I held is better quality. I'll get one as an Xmas present this year as I've blown my gun budget for this year..

  3. Use 200he for 45 and 180 for 40. Impulse wise not much of a difference to me, personally find the 40 gets back on target faster.

This is kinda where I was headed. Can the .45 be dialed in to match that with the right bullet weight?
Any load can and should be adjusted to the bullet weight. I use 3.6 grains of tite group with a 180 40 s&w for idpa and it shoots just as soft as any 9mm load. For major power factor I jack the grains up to 4.6 with the same bullet. I've chrono'ed these loads and know how the perform, if I choose another weight bullet I'd use different charge.

45 is a good load as well, the answer on "which one is better" depends on what your goal is. I shoot uspsa & idpa and practice a lot so 40 is the better choice for my goals.

    Good luck.

  4. I have a DVC, it's totally stock, and have shot it in USPSA matches and put well over 5k rounds through it - no problems.

Mags are STI tubes with Dawson springs, followers, and base plates - no problems with the 5 I have.

I reload my own ammo with coal to 1.19, use lee undersize die, and have no problems.

I also have an STI Aperio and it has no problems; both are 40 S&W.

The Porsche 911 is a great product and it has a huge aftermarket - does that mean it's a poor product - no.

The one thing I do to keep it reliable is clean the gun after every three shootings, most don't do this and that is where problems start.

Don't overthink it, you made a good purchase...

  5. I had a 1 hour routine, 7 day a week routine that took me from B-Class to M-Class over the last year. Then I got tendonitis in my elbow and scaled back to 35 minutes a day and only 4 days a week. My current routine (which is basically a little more than half of my old routine) is this. I would love to hear feedback:

    1) 10 draws (2 shots on one target) with hands at sides. I draw to the head box.

    2) 10 draws (2 shots on one target) hands about shoulders. I draw to the head box.

    3) 6 turn and draws (3 targets, 2 shots each). Draw and shoot the body of the targets. I vary the number of shots per target (1, 2, or 3) and sometimes just Bill Drill targets. I vary the position of the targets too (wide transitions, narrow, stacked targets, etc.).

    4) Using two shooting boxes, engage 3 targets with 2 shots each and then reload on the way to the next shooting box where I reengage the same targets. Go back and forth until I go through all 5 mags on my belt. Do this 4 times. Vary the targets to get all different kinds of transitions. 20 reloads total. Most of the time I do this side to side. Rarely, I do it back and forth.

    5) Same drill as Number 4, except that I do a standing reload. Go through every mag on my belt. Do this 3 times. Vary the targets to get all different kinds of transitions. 15 reloads total.

    6) Draw, shoot a head box target 2 times, reload, shoot head box 2 times, reload, etc. until I go through all 5 magazines. I vary the type of draw. 25 reloads total.

    7) Draw an empty gun, pull a mag at the same time and load the gun (including racking a round in the chamber). I will run through targets in different ways and vary the type of draw. I do this 12 times. On 4 draws I am standing still. On another 4 draws, I am moving right. On the last 4 draws, I am moving left. Sometimes I go forward and backwards too. Great gun handling drill.

    8) I do about 16 draws from funky positions. For example, hands at surrender and then move into a shooting box backwards. Or simulate drawing with hands on a wall. Or draw and take off running fast at the same time.

    9) I hold the gun up and take a perfect sight picture and try to make a perfect trigger press. Then I quickly rack the slide. This is a "two-fer" drill--trigger control and quick malfunction clearance. I do this 10 times (1 full magazine).

    10) I practice slide lock reloads (hold the gun with the slide locked back, simulate 2 shots and then load the gun and let the slide go forward). I do this 5 times. Most of the time, I move while loading.

Note--I use three 1/3 sized targets and have dummy rounds in my magazines (no primers or powder) to get the weight correct. I also perform the above RANDOMLY but tend to do number 4 earlier in my session (this drill most simulates a stage and I like to do it cold).

I don't vary target distance very much because my room is small, but I do vary target distance a lot in live fire. I don't really run stages and just do that live fire.

Sometimes I mix other things in--table top reloads, shoot on the move, huge transitions, etc.. If I know I will see something weird in a match, I will practice it. I usually don't use the timer except for occasional "tests" to chart improvement.

I also removed strong hand and weak hand drills from my dry fire because this was really causing my tendonitis to flare up.

    This^.

Strong program: lots of trigger control, transitions, and reloads which are big parts of the uspsa game.

  6. Been wanting an X5 super match in 40 but trade restrictions put the kibosh on my plan. I really like how you can move the trigger forward and aft without ripping the gun apart like my 2011.

I know similar trade restrictions were applied to hk years ago for a similar reason; but after the issue was resolved, it took a few years for the hk supply to level here in the states. So it seems I won't be getting one for a few years...

Has anyone taken a p226 SAO and attempted to bring it up to a level close to the X5 super match?

  7. Here's a few suggestions:

1). at the start of each month choose a few drills, record times/hits/observations on what went well/what to improve. Train for the month, and redo the drills at the end of the month and record results. Only post at the beginning and end of the month.

2). Pick a different drill each week and post observations from each week

For me, I do number one as I don't want this to turn into a writing exercise. Also I like this method as I can compare how I improve overtime.

I have a strong engineering/finance background I can easily go overboard with data collection; however, that is too much work and I want this to be fun...

  8. When I got my new Apeiro I was shooting it low left vs. my Edge ( both 40 s&w). After farting around with sights, I decided I'd get a few lessions with the GM that owns the range would help me sort out some issues. After working with him I found:

    1. I was speeding through my trigger pull - my Edge has a fully worked trigger vs. the stocker on the Apeiro

    2. The Apeiro required a more precise grip - the Edge doesn't have the island barrel and is more tolerant of a grip issues

    3. I was looking over the sights more than I was with my Edge

Working with the GM we found these subtle differences when I shot my Edge vs. the Apeiro. I never thought switching equipment would impact my ability to execute fundamentals; I guess the weight differences, the way the weight is distributed, and different trigger pull were enough to change my shooting.

For the record, I'm am currently an unrated shooter but that will change very soon.

  9. +2 I have a lee u die and use it for my STI Apeiro and Edge and have had 99.9% of my ammo chamber without issue. I load outside SAMMI spec for COAL to 1.200 and and use a redding taper crimp to get a diameter of .422.

I've had the die for 5 months and have easily loaded and fired 6000+ Rounds without issue. The only issue I did have had nothing to do with the die as I double charged a case.

The down size of u dies is the stress placed on the case as you are compressing it outside of SAMMI specs; as a result, I spend lots of time on case prep and inspection.

  10. Excellent progression!

I feel the same way in regards to eye speed and grip.

For eyes, I used to have a really hard time focusing on a spot on the target and driving my shot to my point of aim.

For grip, my shots would always fly left and low until I learned to pinch the grip with my strong hand (right hand for me). Now I'm working on my weak hand gripping to improve my follow-up shots; still have a ways to go as it's a bit hard to do this shooting 40 s&w major.

As for overall body strength, this is critical to improvement. For me I use weight training for my: shoulders, back, core, and legs. Plates and crossfit are both excellent options.

Again, great work and you are looking more and more polished!

  11. My CZ broke on me again... It goes to half cock after I slam a reload. Now I have to spend more money to fix it....

I am getting tired of having issues with my gun. Do I need a new gun? stock 2? or buy another shadow to have a back up gun?

I am spending too much time fixing my gun..

At the last match, I realized I need to focus on relaxing again. When I focus on movements, I tend to forget about shooting.

I need to work movements in practice, and not think about it much at the match.

A second gun is a must for the number of competitions you are participating in. If you enter even more competitions, you may find a 3rd gun is required.

All guns have some issues, therefore I would recommend sticking with the CZ. You can always change platforms, but it's one more variable to manage as you are working toward your goal.

Great work so far and keep moving forward!

  12. I came back from JJ Racaza's class.

I learned so much from him, not only shooting but characteristics of world class shooter.

I was very surprised how humble he is and student minded, he is a world class teacher because of these characteristics.

He taught me some game changing shooting skills.

The class really focused on the fundamentals of shooting, trigger control and sight.

I had 2 different style of trigger manipulation, long or short distance. When JJ said "One style of trigger control no matter the distance" something clicked me.

After firing a shot, I reset it quick but I didn't remove the slack of the trigger. One of the drill I shot in the class, I had 1 second transition time to 10" plate. After JJ told me to "prep" the trigger, the transition went down to .83 then .7 area.

There were mental programming parts too, like "Shooting points, not speed shooting."

On second day, JJ talked a lot about efficiency. such as aggressively kicking out when transitioning to the other side of barricade, using core muscle in exit, shuffling in entry etc.

He spent lots of one on one time that helped me so much. Even though I do video analysis, It was a great help from him, especially someone who can see way more than I do.

Every penny I saved up for the tuition was totally worth.

I added 4 things on my shooting note in red.

    1. Reset, prep

    2. Let sight dictate

    3. point shooting, not speed shooting

    4. moving-kick out, use core muscle

Excellent! Thank you for sharing what you learned!!

  13. Not really. Its the Indian. But if getting a new gun is like getting a new girlfriend for you then yeah, its better. You rock her more at home and you get better.

^This. Although I own two STI's, I think of Bob Vogel or K.C. or others that are successfully winning with "non real guns".

That said, I saw an interview with Bob where he stated he'd probably shoot an STI if he couldn't shoot a glock.

  14. I'm going to start dry firing daily. Although just from last night I'm finding it frustrating to try and pull the trigger *straight* back without making the sights move. Ugh.

I'll also take the 22lr to the range and work on the other ideas people suggested.

Thanks for all the help and I'll let you know how it goes.

    Update?

  15. Did you know STI makes a similar product:

    http://stiguns.com/guns/apeiro/

I have one on order as they are back logged.

I think the SVI is an awesome product and I want one bad; however, some one earlier in this thread stated it may be a lot of coin to drop if you are just getting into shooting sports. So once i've got more experience under my belt, as a reward I'll purchase a new sight tracker.

    Good luck!

  16. So the DVC guarantee's a 2lbs trigger pull; has the manufacturing improved to where the trigger components no longer need additional gunsmith work?

Also if one or more of the trigger components breaks, can I drop in replacement parts and still maintain my 2lbs trigger pull or do I need to send it to STI to ensure I get the 2lbs pull?

  17. I just finished up this 6" build, which was a collaboration of sorts between myself and a couple different custom builders in our area. I built it for use in 3Gun, where it will take a lot of abuse. As such, I decided to give it a unique finish to match the abuse it will take. I am interested to hear what you guys think. I am certain to get opinions on all sides of the isle here, but I really like the way it turned out.

Looks like there may be some demand for finish variation like this; if you start to offer these services let us know.

    Thanks,

    Will
