  1. Been shooting uspsa now a little over 3 years starting with Single Stack and then to Limited. About 7 months ago switched to Open and having the most fun ever had shooting. Wish I had done it sooner. Have been through several guns, constantly upgrading. Tried 9mm major first, but decided I liked SuperComp better. Lots of good advice above, the best of which is plenty of dry firing so you can find the red dot. It's amazing how that sucker can disappear on you when you have to make a presentation of the gun in a position other than your normal draw, such as weak hand, around corners, etc., and occasionally on your normal draw if your grip is not what it should have been. Then it does seem like an eternity to find it.
  2. I have had great success with Winchester AutoComp. 7.60gr at 1.250 OAL with Precision Delta JHP in my SuperComp gets me consistently 169-170 power factor. I also tried Accurate #7, 3N38, and N350, and the Vihtavouri's were good powders, but didn't see lot of difference in performance so figured why pay that much for powder when results were pretty much the same.
  3. I shot all three, but ended up at the end with the 200's. Didn't feel sluggish to me, felt softer and stayed on or near target better for me. The 165's were too snappy for me, even at the same power factors, but then I'm an old guy.
  4. I am just starting open with SuperComp and using Autocomp. How does it compare with A #7 and 3N38?
  5. Incidentally, I received a response to contact request by Allchin and you have to either cut down the tools to adjust the C-More, or remove the slide from the frame. However, I can tell you that it still does not really allow access to the adjustment screws. I have decided to have the mount changed.
  6. Am I to presume that the May 9th at 8:00 is Eastern time, which would be 7:00 Central time?
  7. I just purchased a used, but low round count, 9mm major open gun. It has the Allchin X-Treme mount for the C-More. The gun has never been sighted in and is in need of being zeroed. How do you get to the adjustment screws with this mount? There are no openings in the mount for this as in other mounts I have seen. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
  8. Glad to see you posted that Gerald. Things had gotten way out of hand and I wish there was some way the moderator(s) could delete all that as I feel it reflects badly on the whole sport in our state and the way we handle things with all the accusations and name calling.
  9. I got my email as well at 6:01, as did my son. I can't believe it was wait listed by 6:03!
  10. It's obvious from all the posts on this subject here that not everyone is going to agree with any decision made by those putting on the match. As has been said before, I think it's fair, but wish everyone was required to do it the same way. You stand the chance of getting shut out of LA Classic because you're not from LA, but also shut out of your home state MS Classic because you didn't select the quickest way to get it to Steve Roberts's house. LA's way is especially fair if there are only about a 100 section members and no way to fill up the match. If MS Classic wants a wide selection of state representation, then it seems that like LA the first week should be to allow the first x number MS shooters in; then the next week for the rest. I don't know how many MS shooters we have, but agree that a group from GA shouldn't shut out MS Shooters who sent it regular mail, got postmarked the first day possible, but didn't hand deliver it or send it overnight like the GA (or whatever state) guys did. I agree that MS guys should have first dibs on their state shoot. However, like Mosher said, that's just my opinion and I don't run that show, so whatever Steve Roberts and them decide to do, I'll comply with and try my best to get in. Because it's obvious from all the posts above that whatever they decide to do, somebody is not going to be happy!
  11. Whether I agree or not with what has been decided, I respect their right to do what they did since, after all, it IS the Louisiana Classic. I have enjoyed shooting it and want to shoot it again this year. I will try to get in when it is time for us outsiders to apply, but will also be surprised if it is not already full from Louisiana shooters. However, I do feel Mississippi and other states should do the same. I know many people from Mississippi who have shot the Mississippi Classic for years that were unable to get in this year. Quite frankly, that was not fair to them that they were busy doing other things and didn't immediately print out an application and immediately overnight it. Then again I understand the desire to have shooters from different states or countries come in to shoot it. I guess the ones that put on the matches just need to each decide what is important to them; whether to give the residents of their state the first opportunity to fill up the match; or whether they want a larger cross section of shooters from other states and/or countries. I wish there was a way to do both, but obviously you get into limitations in each state as to the number of shooters they can accommodate and still run a smooth match. I guess it just goes to show the increased popularity of the sport, which is a good thing. If I don't get in, I will be disappointed to miss what I feel is a fun match, but it won't be the end of the world. The sun will still come up the next day!
  12. Are the stages going to be posted? Would just like an idea what I'm going to mess up!
  13. I'm pretty sure we will be able to walk the stages in advance. Seems I read that stages will be set up this coming Saturday, but won't be available for viewing until Thursday.
  14. Happens all the time that local clubs with lot of shooters in the area going to a major type shoot will set up stages as much like the ones posted as they can so their local guys can get some practice. Always turns out that the distances, angles, and other elements are not the same. Never has seemed to be any real advantageous or disadvantage for anyone that I know of, especially me.
  15. I'm with you! Ready to see some stages! Can't wait to get an idea of what they put together for Frostproof.
  16. I have shot plenty of the 180 gr BBI's with 4.87gr N320 at 1.185 OAL. Gives me an average of around 950 fps and 170 power factor with great accuracy.
  17. I have tried and like both, but settled with the 180's. Timed myself shooting an array of targets behind my house with a shot timer, and my times were consistently a little faster with the 180's.
  18. I use a mixture of crushed walnut and corn cob (about 2/3 corn). I add NuFinish, couple capfuls of mineral spirits, and a cut up used dryer sheet for every batch. Been using same batch for at least 4-5 months and done thousands of rounds. I probably do at least 500 per week. Just did a batch last night and still get very shiny at 3 hours. I also soak them beforehand with mixture of LemiShine and Dawn dishwashing soap and that gets most all the crud off before go in the tumbler.
  19. I, too, shoot a 2011 in .40 S&W from Brazos. I shoot the 180gr BBI bullet and at least for my gun off the bench, I get my best accuracy at about 1.185-6 OAL with about a .420-.421 crimp using mixed brass. I put very little bell in the crimp when loading, just enough to seat the bullet.
  20. I'm 61 and just started shooting the sport back in Oct '13. My son is 32 and started in Late Dec '13 and has left me in his dust already. I, too, have wondered the same thing about age and it's limitations. I'm not as quick or fast as used to be and seeing through blended trifocals makes seeing target and sights difficult at times. I've made C in single stack, but just recently switched to Limited and still unclassified there. I have started taking instruction from a good instructor once a month, and shoot a match the day after with him for critique teaching me how to best shoot various types of stages, and I practice several times a week. I don't dry fire very often, but realize I should. With a heavy work schedule just don't seem to have time to do everything. I do go to the gym M-F and do weights twice a week and cardio three times a week. I am convinced I can improve. I just need to work on fundamentals of presentation, trigger control, and efficiency of time. I feel I need to be more accurate and shave as much time as possible off the stages by shooting on the move or positioning myself to take as many targets from one position as I can as I know I will never be as quick and fast as those young bucks. However, I see older guys out there that are still kicking some serious behind by doing what I'm working on. I just want to continue to improve and continue to have fun in the process. I have no goals as far as classification. I just want to move up in the pack in the overall results. I started out at the bottom, but have finally started finishing in the top 50%, which had been a goal of mine. I have people I shoot with regularly that finish ahead of me all the time. I have been targeting some of them within reach and have started beating them. Now I have better shooters in my sights and steadily closing the gap on them.
  21. I have tried both in my Brazos Pro Limited .40, and though the x-Tremes shoot well at 10-15 yards, I get much tighter groups at 25 yards with the BBI's. The x-Tremes could be cheaper than the BBI's and I'd still go with the BBI's for uspsa. I use the BBI 180gr bullets.
  22. I did not notice any significant difference in accuracy between the RN and the RNFP. Both were very accurate for me, though I think I got a little better accuracy out of the 180gr RNFP.
  23. I've tried the X-Tremes in 180gr and 200gr, in all the different bullet profiles. I do not get the accuracy, especially out to 25 yards with the X-Tremes, I can get with my BBI 180's. It may be just me, my load, or my gun.
  24. I also just started shooting Limited and .40 S&W. I use the EGW undersized die and at this time chamber check for all matches. I have a few each match that, though they pass the gauge check, do not chamber check freely. I set them aside in a bin for practice only. I've never had any of them that do not work fine in practice, but I will continue to set them aside as I have been doing and not use them in the matches.
